Welcome to Elenlond, an original medieval fantasy forum! We're always looking for new, dedicated members.

Elenlond is composed of two continents: Soare and Esiria. Esiria, a land now isolated due to the efforts of the last remaining Goddess, is inaccessible to all beings and lies in the east. Soare, a continent in the west, is composed of three distinct nations: Ashoka, Soto, and Morrim. Lying between the two major continents are the Scattered Isles. Since the dissolution of the pantheon and the fall of the gods, these countries have existed in relative peace and prosperity.

But how long will that peace last?

Morrim

The Basics: History
Very little is actually known about Morrim’s history, apart from small details. This is due to the fact that the nation is rather enclosed – isolated, even – from all other places. With the Do’suul mountains infringing upon it along its eastern coast, the dense Erth’netora forests to the west, and swampland to the north, few ever brave danger to travel into Morrim. Ships cannot come to port, people do not want to travel through the ooze that is the Loniar Swamp, and few ever navigate the Erth’netora forest paths with certainty, leaving it nearly impossible to find Morrim on the other side. To add to the mystery, very few, if any, of Morrim’s people have ever travelled outside of their country, for reasons unknown. Although not much information is known, people do know that the land is composed mainly of valleys and plains, is governed by a woman simply called ‘The Empress’ and her three advisors, and that the people worship Life and Order.

Social Structure
There is, however, perhaps one thing known about Morrim to all: it follows a traditional feudal hierarchy. From top to bottom, the state is very rigid in its social structure. At the top resides the Empress, below her the high nobles (also known as magnates), which also includes her advisors and those who reside under her wing in the palace, followed by the lesser nobility (the gentry), followed by peasants and commoners, and, lastly, slaves. These slaves, however, are not in the sense that one thinks: these are, rather, slaves of the household. While slaves who work to til the fields and are forced into difficult, endless manual labour do exist, slaves are primarily composed of those who cook, clean, sew, act as stablehands, among other mundane jobs that involve the tending to of their lords and ladies. The lives of these slaves are much better than those who are whipped and beaten by cruel masters in large complexes, but, as previously stated, these are far and few between. Some lords are known to extend cruelty to their domestic slaves, but there are still more who do not.

The land is divided into fiefdoms, or estates. Each fief is headed by a very wealthy magnate, and each fief acts as a sort of barrier, as if the country were divided into provinces along the lines of inheritance. On each fief there is a central building, known as the estate, where the magnate and his family will typically live (for the laws state that a woman may not inherit the land, and that the next male heir, perhaps a brother or an uncle, shall take over once the immediate owner or heirs have died). All commoners and the gentry in the neighbouring towns are to go to the presiding magnate should a problem arise, and he is responsible for dealing with it. In turn, the magnates would go to the Empress should they have a problem, while the commoners would not necessarily do so (in this way the hierarchy is very segregated). The Empress also possesses her own estate, which encompasses the capital city, Kinaldi.

The People
Of what others do know about the people as a whole, the Morrimians are more muscular in stature, as much of the land can be used for farming, and, indeed, usually is. Commoners who farm the land are especially muscular, while slaves tend to be thin and scrawny, malnourished and typically exhausted looking. The people as a whole are very mixed, possessing dark hair, olive skin, and bright eyes to light hair, pale skin, and bright eyes, although it is not entirely unusual to see them with very dark, contrasting eyes. One might describe some of the people as being snooty due to their elevated position in society, while others would describe them, the peasants especially, as being humble, narrow-minded (“This is our lot in life and that’s all there is to it”), a smidgeon melancholy, even. Little is known about the slaves.

Current Events
Much to the dismay and horror of Empress Isra Amiel's advisors and people, she has signed her rights over to Andromalius, effectively making him the Emperor of Morrim. She hasn't stepped down, but declared in her absence that he should take over. Andromalius, having planned for this, took advantage of Morrim's resources and has used the army to storm Ashoka. The Empress seems to have vanished; none can find trace of her.

We are currently not accepting applications for the Empress.
