The rules for Elenlond are not only simple, but they are the standard rules for any literate roleplaying website. Let it be known, however, that these rules will be enforced and warnings will be issued should any infractions occur. Please remember that some administrators are more lax than others and therefore warnings may or may not follow a fault. Also, please adhere to these rules as they are necessary to make Elenlond fun for all.
When Registering…
- Please, if you can, register with a username that contains little or no numbers or strange symbols. If you have an obnoxious name like sarahhottie34364, we will change your username without telling you beforehand.
- Use a valid email address. It makes it easier for us to get a hold of you if necessary.
- You may have one character per account and as many characters as you so desire. You may use the same email address for each account. Please keep them active.
- When you first join, you will be allowed to begin with five abilities, which include spells, skills, or enchantments, depending on your character type. Before you rush off to create these, however, please read the Abilities Tutorial thread, as it will explain the system and what we expect of you. Your character may begin with weapons and armour, but please do not go overboard. If you do, an administrator will ask you to fix it.
For those wishing to play a shapeshifter, they are allowed, but one of your abilities must be the ability to shapeshift (there is more information in the Abilities tutorial). If you wish to play a werecreature or lycanthrope who is prone to transforming during phases of the moon (or under other circumstances), they do not require one of their ability slots to be taken up by shapeshifting, provided these transformations are not by choice. If this is the case, please run it by an administrator in order to get approval.
- The maximum width of a signature banner is 550 pixels. Should yours exceed this width, it will be removed without notice.
In Character…
- Before you begin rping, please post a profile using the profile skeleton. Staff members will add a line at the end of your profile by editing it, stating whether the profile is pending or approved. You will then receive a private message, telling you where you went wrong, or that it has been accepted. The message at the end of your profile is not to be removed, under any circumstances. Once you have received an acceptance message, you will be able to start posting IC.
- Elenlond does not have a word minimum, although we would suggest that you try to keep your posts around 100 words if at all possible. It is understandable if the thread you're in doesn't require that many words. We do, however, expect that your posts continue to be quality work. If you are always, consistently writing poor posts (ie. one-liners, one word posts, or short posts that should probably have been much longer), a staff member will talk to you. If this continues, you may be warned, suspended, or banned. We sacrifice quantity here in the hopes of increasing the quality of everyone's Rping experience.
- Please do not godmode (the act of portraying a character to be invincible, impossible to strike, all-powerful, etc. – basically, godly), powerplay (the act of taking control of another’s character without their permission), or metagame (using OOC information IC) especially in your fights unless you have permission from the other member. If you do not, you will be warned.
- Do not treat the IC forums as though they are OOC. You may post OOC comments in them [preferably with some sort of scheme like this: ((comment here))], but please keep them related. Do not spam the IC forums with advertisements (this will get you warned or banned) or comments that are completely unrelated and nonsensical. We have a forum for that: The Den.
- There are no guidelines stating that you cannot roleplay with yourself on Elenlond, but we ask that you only do it if it is for plot reasons. If you need two characters to interact with one another and they are yours and it is vital to a plot of yours, you can contact an administrator and they will approve of it. If you are caught roleplaying with yourself and you have no reason to justify why, one or all of your accounts may be deleted and warns issued.
- Because Elenlond is rated PG-13, we ask that there be no sex on the forums. Your characters may make out, perhaps get a tad touchy-feely, but if there’s any sort of obvious detail beyond, graphic or otherwise, you will be warned. If you wish to Rp out a sexual scene, have it fade to black on the forums and continue in a PM, over an IM, or via email. Little kiddies don’t need to read erotica.
- Do not slay another PC’s character without permission.
- Please keep all 1337 speak out of the IC areas. It’s annoying and near-impossible for most of us to understand or read.
Out of Character…
- Please do not PM or email advertisements to people; if you'd like to show your site off to other members, use the Member Scrolls in the Guestbook. Should you advertise via PM or email, you will be automatically deleted.
- If you’re looking to make friends or are interested in getting to know some of the members, you should check out the Cbox at the bottom of the forum, or post an introduction in the Front Room. It’s the fastest (and easiest!) way to get to know everyone here.
- Keep profanity and vulgarity to a minimum in the OOC threads. It’s all right if it exists in the IC threads, however please respect the wishes of your fellow roleplayers. If they do not like excessive cussing, innuendo, or anything related, don’t do it. If you continue to do so after having been asked to stop you will be warned without notice. Anybody caught making racial slurs, being racist, sexist, or anything else of the like will be immediately banned.
- Harassment is not acceptable in any way. If you and another member are having problems, use an instant messenger or the private message system. Do NOT post in the OOC forums. The rest of the site doesn’t need to nor wants to hear about it.
