SPRING

Angkar: Dry season. Often sunny, but precipitation is rare. Humidity is low, some bodies of water may have dried up, and bushfires can occur. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Cooler temperatures, although still relatively hot. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Calm and generally cool. Thunderstorms and heavy showers are not uncommon, and there is also a chance of snow until late in the season.

Soto: Trees begin to bud and the snow begins to melt, which may cause minor flooding. Although temperatures increase, snowfall early in the season is not uncommon. Low-lying plants grow while the tree cover isn't too dense.

WHAT IS ELENLOND?

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • CURRENT EVENTS

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Rules & Guidelines
    1. What is godmoding?
Godmoding means to act as if your character is invincible, no matter what the situation is. This means that they cannot be struck, can amazingly escape all attacks and death, and strike the other character without giving them a chance to retaliate. It makes battle threads highly unfair to another player.

    2. What is powerplaying?
Powerplaying is similar to godmoding. However, instead of being invincible, you are controlling another player’s character as though they were your own. This includes actions that were not stated in the previous post, dialogue that was not said, and spells that were not used. Especially in a thread where combat is taking place, this makes the situation highly unfair to the other player. If they give you permission to conduct some of their characters' actions, however, you should make an OOC note of it somewhere in your post so that the staff know.

    3. What is metagaming?
Metagaming is the act of taking OOC information and using it as if your character knows it IC. This could include a conversation you had with someone over IM/PM, or the knowledge you took from a character's history. It's fine if you know these things, but when you bring them in IC and your character hasn't heard them for him/herself, it becomes an issue. You should always react to a person's post with the information your character knows, not the information you know. You also shouldn't edit your post after you have already posted it if someone mentions that they are going to do something different than was originally planned. This is unfair to the other player and whether you know this or not, your character still wouldn't.

    Characters
    1. If I want to have a visual representation of my character, does it have to be a real person?
No. You can use artwork that either you or someone else has drawn—you can even request artwork from one of the many talented artists on Elly. Please note, however, that if you use artwork from someone else has drawn (for example, finding a picture on deviantArt that you like), please credit the artist in your signature by linking to their account and/or the image.

    2. I want to make an NPC. Am I allowed to do this?
Yes! You may make as many NPCs as you wish, but all of them must be cleared with a staff member first, along with any special abilities/powers they may have and what they will be used for. The best place to find more information about this is here. (For more information, see question 4 of the Abilities FAQ post.)

    3. Can my character have a familiar?
Characters may have as many familiars as they like. Take note, however, that familiars who have special abilities (such as being able to fly without having wings) will need to take ability slots from the character they're tied to in order to use those special abilities. (For more information, see question 5 under the Abilities FAQ post.)

    4. Do I have to post my character profile in my signature?
There is no rule saying that you must post a link to your character's profile in your signature; however, it makes it easier for others to find that information, and it can be exceptionally useful when looking for new players to post with, so we do recommend that you do have it linked in some fashion.

    5. I don’t understand how magic works. Can you explain it to me?
Magic is not bought or taught at Elenlond. Instead, we allow your character to begin with 5 abilities, which can include spells, skills, or enchantments for your character's items. As you post IC and earn more posts towards your overall account, you will earn consecutively more abilities. For more information, see the Abilities FAQ post in this thread.

    6. What does it mean if my account usergroup is "Inactive"?
If your character's account is in the Inactive usergroup (and subsequently cannot see any of the IC forums), it means that the character failed the requirements of an Activity Check, which usually entails that a player says which characters are theirs; it can also mean that a player hasn't been posting once a month with that character to keep them active. The character's profile, abilities, and current threads are all moved into the Vault, the archival section of the board.

    7. If my account has become Inactive, how do I reactivate it?
You can PM any staff member, and they can move your character into the proper user group, as well as move their profile and abilities threads from the Vault into the appropriate forums. If your character was a Sovereign and became inactive, their Sovereign status will not be reinstated.

    8. Am I allowed to edit my profile after it has been approved?
Yes, you are more than welcome to go back and edit your character's profile to better reflect their character. Occasionally, characters change in such dramatic ways that their profile no longer accurately reflects who they are, and we strongly encourage players to update accordingly. You are open to update anything inside your profile. The only thing we ask is that you do not change your abilities in any way, shape, or form. If you would like to tweak these, they must be resubmitted to the Review Book using the changes/updates form pinned inside the forum (see question 6 of this post for more information).

And then she was gone, her hips swinging as the knives jostled her thighs, passing by guards with her head held high, a haughty smile upon her lips.

    Accounts & Posting
1.What is the difference between IC and OOC?
IC stands for "In Character." This means you are roleplaying on one of the forums where you write for your character.

OOC stands for "Out of Character." This means you are either posting in one of the forums where you converse, such as the Den.

    2. How many accounts am I allowed to have at a time?
You may have as many accounts as you think you can handle, but you may only have one character on each. We ask that for regular characters players post once per month, and if they have a Sovereign character, three times per month. Please do not create more than you think you can keep active.

    3. Does my NPC require its own account for me to play them?
No, an NPC does not require its own account, though you may choose to create one for the NPC. The account will be placed in the "Non-Playable Character" usergroup. If the NPC isn't going to be around for very long or it will only ever appear where your character is, you may wish to just post with them using your character's account.

    4. Am I allowed to make threads in the past?
Most certainly! If you plan to make a thread that does not take place in the current season, we recommend that you timestamp the thread in some fashion. For example, some members have put in the topic description box the season, or you can have it at the top of the thread's first post on the right, like so:
    Here's an example of timestamping!

    Spring 6 AR
    Insert post here.

You can do whatever is easiest for you.

    5. How many threads am I allowed to have at a time?
As many as you like. We don't have a cap.

    6. What kinds of technology are there?
We will accept flintlock pistols, cannons, catapults, medieval weaponry (bastard swords, long swords, short swords, maces, etc.) and armour (chain mail, plate mail, etc.), mechanical/clockwork creatures if they are partially enchanted to move, some steam creations, and airships if they are enchanted to fly. The technology should be predominantly medieval, however, which means chamber pots for toilets, buildings don't contain a lot of windows because they weaken structures, and candles or magic must be used to light rooms because there are no incandescent bulbs. The centuries that Elenlond roughly overlaps with are the 11th to 13th (1000 to 1200).

    Abilities
    1. What are abilities?
Abilities are the spells, skills, and enchantments your character may possess. Rather than have a shop system, we have decided to allow members to create these for themselves, to make their experience here as unique as possible. The best way to understand the Abilities System is to read the following topic: Ability Tutorial: Spells, Skills, and Enchantments.

We also strongly encourage you to take a quick peek at other members' character profiles so you can see what sorts of abilities they have come up with.

    2. What is an "ability slot"?
An ability slot is simply an ability. For example, when you start on the forum, with 0 IC posts, you may have 5 abilities, which would equal 5 ability slots. The terms "ability" and "ability slot" are interchangeable.

    3. What sorts of things need to be made into abilities?
The best place to look is in the What Constitutes an Ability? post in the Abilities Tutorial. If your idea is not on that list in some way, shape, or form, we advise that you ask a staff member.

    4. Does my NPC need abilities?
No, NPCs do not require ability slots. Because they are created specifically for character plots, the only thing you will require is player permission when using any of the NPC's abilities.

    5. What about my familiar?
Familiars that have abilities or special powers (being able to fly, for example, without wings) must use ability slots, which will come from your character's pool. It's a little bit like sharing, so players who have familiars should carefully consider how they want to budget their slots between the familiar and the actual character.

    6. I want to specialize my abilities. My character is only going to learn one type of magic, so why do I have to wait so long to upgrade?
We currently do not have a system in place for characters who are specializing in a particular type of magic or skill due to the small niche of people whose characters are going that path. Unfortunately, characters will have to upgrade their abilities like characters who have a variety of skills and talents.

    7. I want to change my abilities. Do I need to repost them in the Review Book?
If you're only planning on changing the title of an ability (for example, from "Manipulate Air" to "Aeromancy"), you do not, but if you are going to change the actual wording or description of the ability, you must for re-approval. We have forms that you can fill out and post in your character's Review Book thread.
