And then she was gone, her hips swinging as the knives jostled her thighs, passing by guards with her head held high, a haughty smile upon her lips.

As many of you know, Elenlond has been around for a long, long time—14 years this June, in fact. I took over the forum after its predecessor, Mianor, went down. That Elly has lasted this long and been loved by so many people is simply amazing, and I am so grateful and awed to have been a part of this community. It is with mixed emotions that I pass the forum over to Daring Raven, aka Qayin, as the lead admin. This decision was not made lightly and, while the staff team was still intact, we discussed it at length among us. I have occupied a supporting role for a long while now, working quietly behind the scenes with those on staff who were more in the foreground. I have a really hard time letting go, especially when it comes to Elly, but I think it’s time the forum changed hands. New blood is vital to any group where ideas are shared, and given Elly’s long history with me at the helm, either in the foreground or background, it’s time the forum had someone else at its core. I have had the pleasure and joy of working with so many wonderful people in a mod/admin capacity, but they have nearly always deferred to me for decision making. I have a long history admining—not just Elly or Mianor, but several forums besides, to the point where I nearly inherited another one—so I understand why that was the case. But I feel it’s time someone can make decisions without deferring to me. I am not leaving. Although I have been absent in the foreground, I know many of you would be very upset if I left. I am in the process of rediscovering my love for writing, which faded during my time in university. I always thought I would have more time and drive after university to write, but I found as I transitioned into the rhythm of adult life that that simply wasn’t the case. Instead, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, came to terms with the fact I have depression (and was eventually diagnosed with dysthymia) and anxiety, learned how to deal with cognitive distortions, moved in with my boyfriend turned husband, got married, and now we’re working toward doing more travelling and buying a house. I picked up bullet journalling as well, and as I learn how to cope with the stresses of life and work, I realize more and more that not only do I want to get back into writing but I need to, as a form of creative expression. As the core admin, I cannot do both any longer. I will continue to occupy a supporting role, helping DR where he needs it and offering advice where he would like it. He has laid out his ideas and intentions, and I believe he has the time commitment and drive to do what needs to be done and implement changes that will help Elly grow and continue to thrive. You are still welcome to contact me and ask questions, either via PM or on Discord. I hope to get back into writing here, as I haven’t had the opportunity to RP with many of you, though we have talked in Discord. Please remember to be kind to each other. If you’re dissatisfied or frustrated, tell the staff, whether it involves the staff, other members, or the direction the forum is heading. Be assertive—say how you feel, but be kind and open. It’s ok to feel dissatisfied. We’ve all been there. There are very few places, though, where I’ve felt comfortable enough to say something, and my hope is that you all can be comfortable enough here to do so. At least, that’s what I would like to see in the future if it’s not applicable now. Whether you realize it or not, behind-the-scenes drama bleeds into the foreground. I’ve watched forums crumble because of that; I’ve gone to log in, back in ye olden days, to find the forum had been shut down because of the drama happening in the background. It’s devastating when it happens, but more so when you can’t even get into the site to grab your character info and any writing you were proud of. Every action the staff has taken has been careful and deliberate. We have done the best we could with the knowledge we had at the time, whether it was for better or worse. Over the years, we have had regrets, from the forum’s inception until now. But it is what it is. Remember the staff are humans, too. Elenlond is a hobby, not a job—nobody gets paid to run this forum. Nobody here is getting paid to put their lives on hold for a website. I can’t reiterate this enough: Please be kind. I understand it’s stressful right now, especially with Mel and Ephie leaving. Let’s go up from here, let’s get our footing, and let’s make Elly the best place it can possibly be. <3 Shadow/Kestrel |
