Angkar: Dry season. Often sunny, but precipitation is rare. Humidity is low, some bodies of water may have dried up, and bushfires can occur. The rainforest sees evenly distributed rainfall throughout the season.

Ashoka: Desert: Cooler temperatures, although still relatively hot. Violent, heavy downpours following long dryspells. Jungle: Hot and humid with frequent, violent rainstorms.

Morrim: Cool, wet, and windy, rain is common, although snow is, on the whole, infrequent (there may, however, be some seemingly random snow storms) in the interior, and any snow that accumulates along the coast quickly disappears. Early in the season it is very stormy, wet, and windy, while the end of the season is characterized by less wind, less precipitation, and lower temperatures. Towards the mountains heavy snowfall is quite frequent and the temperatures drop significantly.

Soto: Covered in anywhere from a foot to four or five feet of snow, Soto is very cold. Windchills are common and can severely drop the temperature at times. Deciduous trees have no leaves while coniferous trees continue to bear needles. Slow or still bodies of water have frozen over.

Elenlond is an original free-form medieval fantasy RPG set on the continent of Soare and the Scattered Isles, which are located to the south in the Sea of Diverging Waters. The four chief nations of the western side of the world—Ashoka in northern Soare, Soto in western Soare, Morrim in eastern Soare, and Angkar, the largest of the Scattered Isles—continue to experience growth and prosperity since the fall of the Mianorite gods, although power struggles within the countries—or outside of them—continue to ensue.

  • Elly's layouts work best in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. It is not optimized for IE.

Angkar: To honour the reinvigoration of the ancient city of Mondrágon, the majestic Queen Eulalia has permitted the opening of a Coliseum where people from around the world and all walks of life can test their combat skills against one another. Many have already done battle in search of honour, glory, prizes and money.

Ashoka: In an otherwise peaceful times, Ashokans are beset with the relatively minor inconveniences of wandering undead and occasionally-aggressive giant rock worms. There has also been some controversy over the recent re-legalisation of human sacrifice.

Morrim: Rumour has it that Emperor Leofric de Hollemark is mustering forces for a war. Though the threat from Soto’s forests has passed, the forces previously employed in watching the forest now linger at the border. Rumours also circulate of a small group that has been dispatched to make contact with the tribes of the Do’suul Mountains.

Soto: The Sotoans have defeated the fey and liberated themselves from Méadaigh’s oppression! Preliminary efforts have been made at rebuilding the city of Madrid, which had been captured at the beginning of the war. However, the Sotoans are hindered from recovery famine. Méadaigh’s magic caused summer to persist in the Erth’netora Forest through the winter. Her power has been withdrawn and the plants die as if preparing for winter – even though it is now summer. The Sotoans must sustain off what food they can get, what creatures they can kill and what can be imported into the city from Morrim and Angkar.

    Changing hands

As many of you know, Elenlond has been around for a long, long time—14 years this June, in fact. I took over the forum after its predecessor, Mianor, went down. That Elly has lasted this long and been loved by so many people is simply amazing, and I am so grateful and awed to have been a part of this community.

It is with mixed emotions that I pass the forum over to Daring Raven, aka Qayin, as the lead admin. This decision was not made lightly and, while the staff team was still intact, we discussed it at length among us. I have occupied a supporting role for a long while now, working quietly behind the scenes with those on staff who were more in the foreground. I have a really hard time letting go, especially when it comes to Elly, but I think it’s time the forum changed hands. New blood is vital to any group where ideas are shared, and given Elly’s long history with me at the helm, either in the foreground or background, it’s time the forum had someone else at its core. I have had the pleasure and joy of working with so many wonderful people in a mod/admin capacity, but they have nearly always deferred to me for decision making. I have a long history admining—not just Elly or Mianor, but several forums besides, to the point where I nearly inherited another one—so I understand why that was the case. But I feel it’s time someone can make decisions without deferring to me.

I am not leaving. Although I have been absent in the foreground, I know many of you would be very upset if I left. I am in the process of rediscovering my love for writing, which faded during my time in university. I always thought I would have more time and drive after university to write, but I found as I transitioned into the rhythm of adult life that that simply wasn’t the case. Instead, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, came to terms with the fact I have depression (and was eventually diagnosed with dysthymia) and anxiety, learned how to deal with cognitive distortions, moved in with my boyfriend turned husband, got married, and now we’re working toward doing more travelling and buying a house. I picked up bullet journalling as well, and as I learn how to cope with the stresses of life and work, I realize more and more that not only do I want to get back into writing but I need to, as a form of creative expression. As the core admin, I cannot do both any longer.

I will continue to occupy a supporting role, helping DR where he needs it and offering advice where he would like it. He has laid out his ideas and intentions, and I believe he has the time commitment and drive to do what needs to be done and implement changes that will help Elly grow and continue to thrive. You are still welcome to contact me and ask questions, either via PM or on Discord. I hope to get back into writing here, as I haven’t had the opportunity to RP with many of you, though we have talked in Discord.

Please remember to be kind to each other. If you’re dissatisfied or frustrated, tell the staff, whether it involves the staff, other members, or the direction the forum is heading. Be assertive—say how you feel, but be kind and open. It’s ok to feel dissatisfied. We’ve all been there. There are very few places, though, where I’ve felt comfortable enough to say something, and my hope is that you all can be comfortable enough here to do so. At least, that’s what I would like to see in the future if it’s not applicable now. Whether you realize it or not, behind-the-scenes drama bleeds into the foreground. I’ve watched forums crumble because of that; I’ve gone to log in, back in ye olden days, to find the forum had been shut down because of the drama happening in the background. It’s devastating when it happens, but more so when you can’t even get into the site to grab your character info and any writing you were proud of.

Every action the staff has taken has been careful and deliberate. We have done the best we could with the knowledge we had at the time, whether it was for better or worse. Over the years, we have had regrets, from the forum’s inception until now. But it is what it is. Remember the staff are humans, too. Elenlond is a hobby, not a job—nobody gets paid to run this forum. Nobody here is getting paid to put their lives on hold for a website. I can’t reiterate this enough: Please be kind. I understand it’s stressful right now, especially with Mel and Ephie leaving. Let’s go up from here, let’s get our footing, and let’s make Elly the best place it can possibly be.

Wait...What's the deal with the unicorn?

As you signed into Elenlond today, you were no doubt shocked. Perhaps you asked yourself, “Have I wandered into an alternate dimension? Did I type the URL in wrong? My faith in reality is shattered! I must now go full solipsist!”
No need to panic! It’s just a new skin! No need to go leaping into solipsism….yet!
We, the staff, figured that the site’s appearance could do with an update. It has all the same features as the old one, plus a few new ones, and it’s got a fancy unicorn! All of this is courtesy of Mel, who has worked hard in making the graphics and coding the skin, so give him a pat on the back for his hard work! Also, if you discover any problems with the skin, do tell Mel as soon as possible so he can fix them.
Since it is so time-consuming, we will stop updating the previous skin, as we have stopped updating the others.

This is also an excellent opportunity to announce our newest OTMs! Gouka has taken the character OTM by storm, and the thread OTM goes to Uncertainty Principle – more for Nispa’s efforts than mine, I promise.

    Hibernation, Awakening

Posted by Aniketos (Retired Staff) at Dec 2 2017, 09:16 AM. 0 comments

The little blue ball of Etnuet swings in its dance around the sun, nodding towards it in summer, tilting away in the winter. Thus we may see how the world wags. In the countries of Soto and Morrim, a mild autumn has given way to a sudden, cold winter. An unexpected snowfall puts the world to bed: animals crawl away into hibernation and rats and mice have moved into your house, seeking warmth. The days grow shorter. For some the extended night brings a sense of peace to the fireside; others suffer anxiety under the asphyxiation of darkness.

Soto faces a lean winter after the aberrant harvests following the war, but the Sotoans hope it will be their last and look forward to the day when the snows melt and spring bursts forth as it should. Then there may be a return to normalcy – or as much as there can be when indelible reminders of the war remain. Morrim, meanwhile, settles down in confidence and the people await the joy of midwinter feasts, late-night affairs stuffed with food and drenched with wine.

Meanwhile, Ashoka relaxes with the first cool breezes of the season. Picnickers proliferate around Eldahar’s oasis, enjoying a reprieve from the heat, while in cities and towns across Ashoka, the crowds at the souks swell to a colourful and clamorous fervor.

Angkar, however, faces a difficult season in its own way: the rains have stopped and the dry season begins, searing as a brand. The only reprieve is in the water, and wherever there is coast families gather to swim and play. The cities only really awake from their hazy stupor at night, when markets and entertainments play out under enchanted lights.

Such is the state of things at the changing of the season. If you wish to set any threads in a previous season, make sure to place a timestamp at the stop.
