Razarod. If his hand hadn’t been encased in the other man’s, it would have fallen to his side in shock. As it was, he barely restrained himself from letting his jaw drop open, a behavior most unbecoming of a gentleman, and surely one the king would not have appreciated. But…it would have mirrored his emotions oh-so well. Razarod. Hah. Out of everyone in Angkar, and surely there had to be thousands of people populating the island, he would have had the luck to bump into the monarch himself. The chances of that occurring had been so slim that Liron had never even considered the possibility, preferring to believe anything else rather than think the king himself was before him. The clues had all fit, certainly but he’d still stubbornly convinced himself that the man before him was just an average noble – if nobles could never be considered average – and not anyone in particular. Oh, how wrong he’d been. “Razarod….ah…” Now what was he supposed to say to that? He’d pretty much gone and broken every single rule concerning politeness that existed, of that he was positive. Was there anything left to him that wouldn’t be considered a breach of etiquette? Probably not. Eh, if he was going to go down, he might as well go with flair. So he just smiled, albeit a bit awkwardly, and shook the king’s hand. The monarch hadn’t seemed displeased by his actions; rather he’d seemed to be enjoying himself, perhaps enjoying the fact that he was finally nameless and ordinary in someone’s eyes? It wasn’t something would happened often for Razarod, no doubt, since practically everyone in the city knew him. Liron, a newcomer to the area, knew of Razarod, in the most general of senses, but as far as details went, he was fairly ignorant. Thus, he was one of the few people the king could safely approach without warning bells going off instantaneously. The king had even commented upon it earlier. He’d also made no move to announce immediately who he was, which led Liron to suspect that he had preferred anonymity over infamy. Well, if he wanted an average conversation on an ordinary, Liron would do his best to ensure it, though only as far as he could reasonably go. “Why thank you, your majesty, for both compliments. I would like to take credit for preserving myself so well, but alas, that trait would be attributed to the good genes of my race, and not any personal action on my behalf. As for the music…perhaps when I return home, I’ll practice it more and perform it for you one day. Do you frequently come out here, just to mingle with the common folk?” |
