The castle of Ranfjod lay in waist. Its inhabitance long dead and its existence long forgotten. Its maze like hallways once lit with golden candles are now dark and dank with rotting carpets and moth devoured tapestries. The walls of Ranfjod castle are overgrown with weeds and vines, which trail up to its collapsing towers. Two figures stand upon adjacent towers. A battle is about to begin.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am one who possesses both grace and cunning, as well as dashing good looks and a very fabulous wardrobe.

Born and razed in Deren, I never new my parents, as my mother died in child birth, and my father was killed by drakel shortly after impregnating my mother. After my parents death, I was taken in by my mothers sister Clara, a tall skinny seamstress with pail skin and mousy brown hair. Clara suffered from Cystic fibrosis for most of my childhood, and on my 10th birthday she passed away. I remained in Deren until the age of 12 where I made the decision to sail west to battalion where I soon became the apprentice of Archmage Walrick. I studied under walrick's teachings for 3 years and then after I would spend another 3 studying the magical arts abroad. Throughout these years my loneliness and alienation grew. Because of my childhood trauma I treated most people with a cold indifferences and sometimes spite. I became obsesed with find purpose in my life as I had never felt needed. My search for a purpose would soon lead me to Paxia, where I would become involved in a passionate and loving relationship, which would end my quest for purpose and bring me the happiness I had sought. Although the scars of the past would never heal, the undeniable refuge that I had found in this person would give me the purpose that I had bin searching for. I existence had become necessary for him, and him to me.

Beautiful. Cold. Murderer.

There were many adjectives to describe her, but those three were what was her in a nutshell.

She stood gracefully atop the tower, her gaze to the direction of her opponent, blinded by the fold wrapped around her head. But even with her sense of sight negated by it, she knew where he was.

Long black hair fluttered wildly, under the blindfold, in the cold wind, hailing the two with moisture from the air and freezing wind. It would most likely rain soon.

Without emotion in her stoic face, she stood there. Halberd in her left hand, the knife-like blade angled downwards. The red dress she wore was cut, revealing her long, slender legs with black leather boots, middle-piece flapping in the wind between those legs of her. Strapped on her right leg was a holder for three simple throwing knives.

She would kill this man. She did not need a reason for that, no cause. She simply killed, and would be killed. Simple rules of life. A price to be paid for her profession, just like the one she had paid for strength. The light of the sun. But for those who live and die in the shadows, such a thing was useless.

The man would be the one to make the first move. If they would continue to wait for the other to do the move instead, only then would she be the one to take the initiave.

The sky was dark and gray. A storm would soon arrive.

This stare down had gone on for long enough, it was about time that I make my move. My options where slim. I could try and attack this woman with a frontal assault, but there was no telling whether or not I would be able to overpower her head one. Then there was magic. If I attacked her with a spell then I could keep my position while threatening hers. Also the only long range weapon she appeared to have where the small throwing knives strapped across her leg, and it was doubtful that she would be able to strike me with one before my spell reached her. However if my attack happened to miss its target or she blocked it then I would just be waisting mana and leaving myself open for an attack. I had to think of supthing ells. If I simply outwardly attacked her it would most certainly lead to my doom. I had to think of supthing ells. What advantage did I have over her?

With a stroke of brilliance my plan was born. I did have an advantage over her. My advantage was my environment, and the ability to use it to its fullest potential.

To gain advantage over this woman, I would have to destroy the tower she stood on. Being already unstable, a well aimed blast would easily send the tower crumbling. This would break my new adversaries balance and send her plummeting down. However depending on her speed an agility she could easily jump to another one of the four towers atop the castle, and secure a new position. For my plan to work, I would have to destroy the second tower while she was still airborne. Hopefully I would prove to be faster then her in this first strike.

I set my plan into motion. My palm glowed white, and as its intensity grew a string of blue lightning shot though the air and collided with the base of her tower. Before the first brick had fallen the woman was airborne, arching over the battlements bellow and intent to take of my head. I made my move. Turning at me heels I made a fleeting jumped the tower to my left. My white robes whistled as the air lifted me across the battlements. From the air, I shot another bolt of lighting at my previous tower, and almost instantly the structure imploded into a cascade of streaming gray debris. I had succeeded. Before the woman could make a move, the crumbling tower sent her crashing down in into the battlements bellow.

Landing cleanly on the tower top I drew my my sword. Water droplets sprang of its cold metal. It was beginning to rain.

Atop the castle there where four towers. One on each corner of the castle.

Was she being toyed with, or was the man the one being fooled by her blatant acts of amateurship?

A little bit from column A, a little bit from column B. She did not spare a moment to ponder what in the name of the gods had caused her to jump like that, a stupid move, ridiculous. Others would have laughed their lungs out if they had seen her travel through the air, a red arrow, a stupid sparrow.

Sparrow. Why a sparrow?

Whatever.

She landed heavily, broken tiles and wood smashing around her, miracuously she was able to get past the barrage but with a slightly torn dress, and a few cuts. The most audible damage however came from the landing. Bones cracked, muscles in her legs was torn. Both her legs had bent unnaturally backwards from the knees, but she stood up. Still stoic, no sign of pain could be seen on her face. Obviously, she was used to the transformation of her lower body already.

A plan to bring the downfall of the man had already been made mid-air. To throw two attacks with enough strength to shatter towers, required for the person to give up a good portion of their Magical strength. In such short time, that caused fatique in most cases of magicians. Whether he was one of those people, was not her concern. All that she needed to know, was that he was to die.

She stomped the ground and leaped away from the debris poised, her halberd aimed at the man, perfectly. Magical essence ran through the weapon, slowly generated amidst the chaos of the first moments of battle, and the bolt was ready. The halberd, held with one hand, her left, released the bolt of energy.

Thunder struck, and at that moment, a green blast was sent from the tip of her halberd. A magical arrow, it travelled with slightly higher speed than normal arrows, let little noise but that of the electricity crackling, and unlike arrows meant for bows, she had theoretically a limitless amount of them at her disposal, given enough time to gather the energy needed, and for the magical parts in the halberd to stay in one piece. For the bolt she had just fired, it was small compared to the size and effect of more charged attacks, but this was just to disorientate the opponent, let them draw conclusions of her weapon and capabilities, and when he thinks that everything is known, shatter those beliefs, along with his skull.

The attack was aimed to the wrist which was holding onto the sword. If hit, the bolt would carve a clean round hole in his flesh, large enough to fit a finger through.

Being that I don't know what exactly you are going to be doing while I descend the tower I will make this post short.

My blade was sent flying over my head in a wild arc as it collided with the lighting bolt. Electrified remnants of the clash trailed the sword as it clunked down the side of the tower. I had lost my weapon. The advantage was hers.

Although I had lost my sword, I had still prevented an almost fatal wound. Had the attack reached its intended target, I would not have even been able to hold a sword. One thing baffled me though. Why had she gone for my wrist? If she was able to aim for such a precise spot why not go for my heart or some other vital organ? What was this woman’s agenda? why hadn’t she tried to kill me? For the time being I would have to push these questions away. I had more important things to concentrate on.

From a leather strap rapped tightly around my upper thy, I drew a small silver dagger. It was no bigger then a common kitchen knife, and was in know way adequate for a battle. Never the less I would have to make due. I poured some of my mana into the dagger just in case.

I descended the spiral tower staircase with haste to meet my pray bellow.

Dearmed. Possibly exhausted by the displays of strong magic from earlier. If only had he saved his strength, he would have more of a chance against his assassin.

She pulled back the halberd, to her side, and focused. Visionless, it seemed impossible for her to display feats of accuracy, but with the blindfold, what she saw was more than she ever could have before placing it on her eyes, and accepting the curse in her heart, body and soul. Eyes, feeling and humanity taken, she gained something, alien, horrible, bloodthirsty.

It told her things, whispered. It was there, and it was everywhere. Taking in every piece of information a human could with their senses, but processing it in such ways that no man could ever do.

'GONE, NO WEAPONS FELL TO THE GROUND FAR OVER THE WALLS THERE IT IS NO OBTAINING'

'DESCENDING THE SPIRAL TOWARDS DESTRUCTION'

'LEAP, PIERCE KILL DEVOUR DRINK'

A pandenonium of simple words, but the feelings told by them were overwhelming. Crushing. She could do nothing but obey, or be swept away, lose what little control she had of herself.

She lowered, jumped backwards, and slammed her boots on the wall behind her. She sprung forth, shifting her form mid-flight, to slam on the wall at close to the base of the tower with her feet.

They connected, the towers wall, and the projectile woman. A horrible force, unnatural strength. The walls were breached, they blasted debris and chunks of rock inside.

He should have been somewhere around that area by now. She had given him enough time to descend, but she did not stay still to check. She had already leaped away, with less force this time.

Like hooves, her feet landed and dug into the ground, bringing her sliding form to a stop in the muddy ground. She swung her halberd in front , like a pinpoint weapon, aimed at the tower.

Energy again began to gather at the tip, ready to be released at a moments whim.
