Kimberly sighed as the door shut behind the last person. She had only wanted to be alone. The other students had finally figured that out and left her in peace. Even the librarian was missing. Walking over to a window that looked out over the garden she tried to collect her thoughts. She looked down at her hands where not so very long ago the attack from Cerebro had left its mark. She would forever bear the scars, two long scratches from her palm to her elbow on each arm. She had been studying some thorn bushes when suddenly they had begun to wrap around her. When it finally finished several dozen thorns were embedded in her arms. Colossus had had to help her get free, she'd been too scared to reach for her power.

Now things seemed to be taking a nose-dive. Someone had come out with a "cure" for them and Kimberly had gotten a call from her mother, begging her to get the cure. She had insisted that there was nothing wrong with her, that she wasn't sick, but her mother wouldn't listen. Thinking back on that conversation Kimberly tried to hold back her tears but she wasn't able to and for several minutes she allowed the hot liquid to splash down her cheeks. I'm not ill. There's nothing wrong with me. Why can't she understand that? It had been almost two years since Kimberly had heard from her mom, when she'd finally figured out that Xavier wasn't trying to "cure" her daughter but help her control her powers.

Now Kimberly was just happy to have a moment to herself to think. She looked outside at the garden again and allowed herself a small smile. It hadn't taken her long to return to using her powers and if she did say so herself the garden looked beautiful. Finally her thoughts turned to thinking about the Brotherhood. She could understand where they were coming from, especially with this last talking to by her mother. But she still loved her mom, and she didn't want anything bad to happen to her. Does Magneto expect us to ignore our families if their non-mutants? I just can't do that. I have half of my DNA from my mother. I don't know who carried the mutant gene but that doesn't really matter.

Finally realizing that her thoughts kept spiraling back to the conversation she sat down on the table, closed her eyes and began meditating, trying to center herself. Professor Xavier had explained that it was very important she remained centered because the plants around her would respond to her emotions, and that wasn't necessarily good. So trying to think of nothing but the sunlight filtering onto her face she began humming softly under her breath.

LaTerry had seen all the people walking out of the library, some had even warned him not to go in there, but he was bored and needed a good book to read to keep his mind off the letter his parents had sent him. They wanted him to think about taking the cure. They had been very careful in the wording of it. LaTerry knew his parents far to well, he could see through their little tricks. They had written a letter instead of calling so that he would have to listen, they had said "think about it" instead of "do it." They had told him that he could come home if he had the cure as well. They had thrown that one at him! LaTerry hadn't wanted to come to this place at first, but now that he was here, he loved it! No one looked at him like a freak, we maybe a little, but nearly as much as in his old school. Not only that, but he loved his ability. He thought that it was the best. How could they ever ask him to get rid of it?

He opened the door to the library and saw a girl sitting on the table, humming to herself, probably meditating or something. Anywhere else, that would have been considered odd, but not here. Before the girl could even notice him, he slowed down time and went to the section of books he was looking for. She had probably seen him, but he felt that if he ignored her, then she would ignore him. He wanted to read, and she appaerently wanted to think, so wouldn't bother her. Now he just had to find a book. He began browsing through the books, as quietly as he could.

Kimberly watched LaTerry enter and sighed inwardly. She had known that her sanctuary could not remain secret for long. It was expected but she wasn't sure how to feel about it at the moment. She was so tired. Remember Kim, with the vaccine out I'm sure I'm not the only one who's parents have tried to say to take it. She closed her eyes hard as she remembered a night two days previous when a small girl who could levitate herself as much as two feet above the ground had come bawling into her room. Remembering that she hadn't seen her around since then she realized that she had gone through with her parents suggestions. She hadn't wanted to do it but she wanted to be with her family more I suppose. Sighing she tried to return her mind to the blank calm it was when she meditated but it wasn't working.

Finally opening her eyes she watched LaTerry browse through the books. "Is there a particular book you're looking for?" she asked, her voice strong but warm. I don't know the exact location of every book here but I do have a general idea where the subjects are. He seems a little sad, but that may be just because he's a quite one.

Kim vaguely remembered seeing LaTerry around before but he'd always kept to himself so she hadn't tried to pry him out of his shell. Not everyone wanted to leave their shells, they were their safety nets, the place where they could hide. Still it's not good to hide all the time. she considered, as she remembered coming out of her shell to help a younger girl feel more at home. He'll come out of his shell eventually. There are enough people here who might need him.

"I don't know where every book is located but I could point you in the direction of the subject. You're LaTerry right? That's your last name isn't it?" she smiled as she spoke, not wanting to make him think he'd disturbed her.

"Is there a particular book you're looking for?" the girl asked, suprising LaTerry. Time slowed for a second and went back again. Darn it all, that still happens, LaTerry thought to himself. Whenever he was suprised, his power would turn on. He supposed that it would come in handy some day, but for now it was just annoying.

LaTerry turned with an apologetic look on his face. He hadn't wanted to disturb her.

"I don't know where every book is located but I could point you in the direction of the subject. You're LaTerry right? That's your last name isn't it?" she said.

"Thanks, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for until I've found it usually. Uh, yes and yes." LaTerry was a man of few words and that had been quite the mouthful for him. He feared that it would get awkward if he didn't say something other than that though. "I'm sorry if I've disturbed you, I can leave if you like." That was a safe enough responce.

Qiud was sitting outside in front of the entrance doors when observing a bird. The bird was of a blue-ish gray color, Qiud was not using his ability to create this bird, and this bird was real. As Qiud was observing it a cat came out and killed it. This took him by surprise, He was not expecting a cat to come out and kill the bird let alone he wasn't expecting a cat to be on campus. While he was sitting there, He noticed the blood of the bird, a deep crimson color. The color of injury, the color of potential healing, the color of his sisters most prized flower, the tulip.

Qiud tried to think of something other than his sister, but alas he was unsuccessful. He couldn't help to think about her, when their birthday was so close. He because he saw the color of the birds blood, he longed to see his sister. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a worn piece of paper, and gently brushed his finger across the image it held dear. Near him an image appeared. It was his twin sister. Not to his liking the image didn't move or anything, it was as if she was a statue. He quickly dropped the paper, gathered his stuff and ran towards the library to seek refuge.

People told him not to go in; Qiud obeyed their wishes and sat in front of the door. He sat there and longing to see his sister to hear her melodic voice ringing through his head. He began to weep for his sister; he began to weep for himself. He hit his head against the library door several times before stopping. He pulled himself into the fetal position and wept more, hiding his face.

Kim smiled at LaTerry. "You're not bothering me." a genuine smile spread across her face. "People just have a habit of giving me extra space when I'm unhappy. I don't mind other peoples presence though."

A thump outside the library startled her. She glanced at LaTerry. "What was that?" Without waiting for an answer she walked toward the door and pulled it gently open. She gasped in shock at the sight of Quid on the floor.

Dropping to her knees by the teen she tried to hide her shock. This stupid vaccine is ruining everyone's lives. she thought angrily, without bothering to ask if that was what was bothering him. She had a feeling that if it wasn't it would soon.

"Hey Quid. What's the matter?" She looked around at the people standing around, some of whom were staring at the sobbing teen. She made a dismissing motion toward them.

"Someone go get Storm." she ordered and two of the mutants fled down the halls, looking for the white haired woman.

Qiud looked up at Kimberly after she said "someone go get storm", he quickly replied "No that won't be neccessary Kim, todays just been a rough day, first I had to take a test on Glycolysis, then a cat ate a bird which was quite gross then that somehow reminded me of my sister." Qiud explained. He didn't even bother to tell her that he created an illusion of his sister that was as still as a lizard in ice, because she might tell him to stop trying like some of the other students do. Why doesn't she have the mutant gene were semi-identical twins.

"I think I should find a book to keep my mind off of my sister." he then said "I doubt it will work." He then went to the historical fiction section and wallowed while he searched. He came across books like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, then Let thy Circle Be Unbroken. He doesn't usually look at these books because they often ocure during the civil war and he never liked the civil war.

Sick of looking, and having his little breakdown Qiud asked "So what are you two doing in here?"

Kim nodded at the mutant. "Okay. I understand." I shouldn't closet myself away so much. Others have troubles too. Some of them have more difficulties than I do.

"Don't be too quick to admit defeat. Maybe you need to just meditate or something. It works for some people." Is meditation your answer for everything Kim? Silly plant speaker

"I just came in here because it's quiet." She sighed, looking around the room with a small smile. She loved books, almost as much as she loved plants. "Do either of you want to go out to the gardens? I think it's stopped raining." She suggested. Maybe it will help take their minds off their troubles. There's a lot of worry that these people are carrying around with them. Stupid vaccine.

Running her fingers through her hair she waited for a reply.
