I didn't know where else to put this, or if there was another topic already on this so I just made a new one. I'm just starting to read Maiden Who Travels The Planet and already I'm getting kind of sad. I know it's not really part of the compilation, and I don't know if I can consider it canon or not, but I thought that I might as well give it a shot. I'm also going to start on Case of Lifestream: Black/White soon, too. I was wondering if anyone read these three and if they really recommend it. If you have read it, what are your thoughts on them?

MOTP is part of the compilation. http://www.clerith.heliohost.org/MoTPCanon.htm http://clerith.heliohost.org/MaidenCanon.htm http://clerith.heliohost.org/MoTP%20Aerith%20Zack.htm CoL: White and Black are also both part of the compilation. http://clerith.heliohost.org/CaseLifestream.htm We've covered the novellas, the ultimanias, all of it. Anastar's site is really pretty amazing about it all: http://clerith.heliohost.org/ My personal thoughts on the novellas? I'm really not fond of them. They're alright, and they do give info to VII, especially between VII and Advent Children Complete. The thing is the last thing we know about VII as a whole is this. With the turks are alright being the last book in the compilation. Cloud is living with Tifa and the kids, he could possibly still be searching for Aerith as well(since the ending of AC/ACC) Vincent took care of stuff in DoC and Genesis came back at the end of DoC. That's from what I gathered is where we've left off in VII's universe. And plus Red XIII's children are running around way later and the planet is still alive.(as shown at the beginning of ACC and the ending of VII). Edited by aerithbunny, Mar 26 2013, 03:57 AM.

I'm really fond of Maiden but only because of the Clerith moments lol. And the bit about Zack just being her friend. I really get tired of people saying she still loves Zack so I liked how this writing portrayed it of course... that got people saying it isn't canon >_>. Case of Lifestream White is okay, again I find the Clerith line particularly appealing. |

I finished Maiden Who Travels The Planet last night and I was really amazed by it up until the end. It just ended rather shorthand, and I get that that's where the story ended but I do feel like there could have been a better ending that such a vague one. Thanks for pointing out that it was canon AND part of the compilation! I never would have known! I am glad I read it though. I can finally say that Aerith truly loved Cloud in the end. The scene with Zack and Aerith was a little bittersweet for me. I felt kinda bad for Zack. But oh well. Haha.

Maiden of the planet is extremely accurate in detail for the FFVII storyline. I love how detailed it talks about 'consciousness' and how very 'alive' it is. I mean, if people can accept Sephiroth can come back and be 'alive', why not Aerith? It also explains about the quote *The words “memetic legacy” are used a lot in the film…but in Advent Children, rather than focusing on memories we wanted to show that consciousness is what lives on. We took the ending of the game and expanded on that idea. Even if they’re dead, their consciousness is still with us. As for Cloud…he sees Aerith several times throughout the film. It’s not that he sees her because he feels her presence. He sees her because her consciousness…lives on inside him. ~Nomura; Distance Interview* Here's a part of the story that makes me think... *But only Cloud knew about his retreat. Having been exposed to Jenova's cells, there were traces of Sephiroth's conscious in him - Part of his conscious resonated with it. Cloud could feel the existence of his remnant somewhere inside the Lifestream, continuing to obstruct Holy even now. Letting only his conscious enter the Sea of Mako, Cloud went in pursuit of him. Riding through the currents, his old enemy was waiting for him. Sephiroth's soul was not yet destroyed and was still a threat to the Planet. In the world of conscious energy, their swords clashed with each other as they confronted. Sephiroth, the strongest Soldier and the most admired person, tore his long sword across Cloud like a beam of light. But Cloud wasn't afraid. Believing that he had won, Sephiroth raised his long sword for his next strike and at that instant, Cloud struck out at him unleashing all the strength he had. His large blade slashed into Sephiroth's body during that brief opening. His attack opened up another opportunity for him as he struck out at Sephiroth again. It was an unstoppable storm of slashes - fifteen unavoidable attacks one after the other, cut through Sephiroth. The mad apostate angel smiled boldly. But the damage he had taken was far beyond what he could endure and his spiritual body started to fall apart as he laughed. Beams of light blasted out from inside his body as if they were cutting him apart. Sephiroth was destroyed. Cloud's nightmare that had been continuing since five years ago in Nibelheim finally came to an end. The Holy that was no longer obstructed immediately came into action. This time, Cloud had separated from his body and was now in an absentminded state but, in the abyss of the Mako world, he saw a hand there to guide him. It was white and delicate - it reminded him of the hand that gave him a flower in Midgar. Unconsciously, he stretched out his hand... His conscious returned to his body. Tifa’s hand grasped his as the ground below him collapsed away.* |
