Which is why I said RPG, not game of all time. xD Shooters don't count, cause they're stupid. VII being remade would have everybody crawling for a copy.. fans back in the 90's, fans in the 2000's but couldn't get it because of the graphics.. fans who had it, and would like to replay it.. fans who never got a chance to play it and have always wanted.. there's so many demographics and I think it applies to all of them. |

A remake might not even top the original VII sales. It could happen you never know, it might receive a huge boycott against it if it ever happens. And for a video game to sell over a billion copies is very unlikely, it could happen but I don't think I have seen a single game do that. |

I'm intrigued to know what the top selling games of all time history is.. but I have faith that VII could very well be near the top with a remake. Although you do raise a good point about the boycott, cause there is quite a handful of people who wouldn't go for it out of sheer spite because of the retcons and what the Comp has done. |

Wii Sports is the highest selling game in the world with 79.16 million copies. It just all depends on how they would remake VII. It obviously cannot be completely true to the original because then they would have to ignore many things that have happened in the Compilation and would only result in more retcons happening and even more plot holes. Though I am playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 right now and I would LOVE to have a high defination pretty VII. |

There's a number of ways they could do it, but two stand out the most. They could completely revamp it to include all the retcons (Genesis, new locals and characters, events and Zack's importance).. or they could go the route supposedly X is taking and just upgrade it to HD. Personally, I'd love either. I would like to see the game and how it would turn out with all the new inclusions. If it turned out poo, would I love it any less? No, because I still have the original to play. This is something A LOT of people seem to forget and thats just because a remake was/is made, it would diminish the original in any way. But thats only if you LET it to. If you LET it change your view, your opinions, memories, feelings and thoughts on the original just because a remake didn't turn out exactly like you wanted, then you cant really call yourself a true fan, can you? I think a true fan would just be grateful that SE would take the time to finish the project, after so many teasings. I know I would. That said, if they didn't touch the storyline in anyway and just upgraded the graphics to XIII/2 quality, I would love that too. |

That's the thing though, stuff that goes bad can tarnish reputations. A lot of people think the compilation has gave the VII series a bad name. Personally I just enjoy the game it self I couldn't care less about what the compilation has done to the fanbase. The only thing that bothers me is that stuff that happened in VII itself doesn't make sense anymore because of the retcons, it can make it hard to follow the storyline and folk lore. I'm not a VII fan really but a remake would be pretty. But I couldn't care less if they remade it really, I would be excited to play it but not "I must have this game!". Personally I think Square Enix should think of creating new projects rather than remaking old games. |

I don't think it would hurt to continue remaking old games.. it could maybe help them recapture what they lost as a company, remember what the old times were like and reinspire them to go back. Granted, the staff has changed since then, so you never know. And I get what you're saying, I agree, the fanbase is heavily influenced by what the Comp has done and a lot of people are upset.. but I think that true fans of VII would accept it for what it is.. an addition, not a replacement, exactly what a remake would be. I still think it would do more good than harm to remake. |

Not gonna happen. There is quite a decline of interest for JRPGs. People would want RPGs like Skyrim or Dragon Age nowadays. And the plot twists of VII is common knowledge now, thanks to the internet/LTD debacle/fan dumb, I'd expect parodies of Aerith getting killed now. The reason VII got so much attention because back then the story was so different and unique (the love interest died unexpectedly, Cloud as an ultimate hero is a deconstruction of RPG main characters at the time, the heroes caused the End of the World as They Know It because Cloud's not what you thought he is, which was spoiled for non FF7 gamers by Crisis Core and Advent Children). And so on and so forth. I think the magic from back when it first debuted in the 90s is gone, and the remake will only feel contrived. My opinion, anyways. Edited by Anti-R, Feb 21 2012, 03:37 PM.
