So I'm kind of happy Square is finally noticing the fans side of FF7. In an recent interview I found. Kitase said this:

http://www.destructoid.com/an-interview-with-the-men-behind-final-fantasy-216354.phtml

Does revisiting a previously established Final Fantasy world excite you? Do you have any interest in revisiting, say, Final Fantasy VII over another? In the past, you said that you wanted to make a sequel to XIII because you liked the universe and wanted to expand it. Do you feel the same way about another entry in the series?

Kitase: If we are talking exclusively about VII, we made a film that was intended to be the sequel. At the moment, we have no specific plans for making any sequels to past FF titles. FFVII was made over 10 years ago, and there are lots of fans that love the game. In a way, they have created their own FFVII world individually, so if we were to make a sequel, we would have to be very careful not to disturb fans' own individual picture of that universe. It's a very delicate thing to do. We'd have to tip-toe around it. At the moment, we don't have any plans.

So I'm actually happy that they're just now realizing fans side of things. Since I know they used to just not care. Plus, I'd rather they leave FF7 alone for awhile.

Sounds to me like Kitase's saying that they don't want to interfere with player interpretation.

What is the idea behind XIII-2's Live Triggers [Dialogue options the players can choose, a la Mass Effect]?

Kitase: We wanted to enable to player to express their own preferences and their preferences would tie in directly with the narrative. With Live Trigger, we are hoping to help the player get more involved with each conversation. By making a choice, the conversation develops in different ways. Even when the situation is quite serious, you can give a comedic response and change the tone. You can also change the depth of information you receive, based on your response.
I know he's not talking about VII here, but it does sound like Kitase wants to get players more involved by giving them a choice of response. Wouldn't that be the same concept behind the optional dialogue in VII?

Bit late for that IMO. So many theories and ideas have already been demolished by the new canon. Some of those theories were better than what was in the compilation.

I'm pleased that they aren't doing any more VII stuff anyway....and also that they aren't doing any sequels to the other older games. So no FFVIII game set 17 years after the ending where you play as Squall and Rinoa's teenage son and no FFX-3 where we search for a hunky boyfriend for Rikku.

Not to get off-topic here, but would that also go for the LTD as well? If him saying that makes me wonder if their aware of the LTD debates and such around the world and don't wanna mess up by putting Cloud with someone and then lose their fan base, maybe?

Agreed. I felt like AC, DOC, CC, BC. Were like reading fan-fictions to begin with.

Yeah, I thought of that as well. The game has been around for more than 10 years, there're so many different ideas surrounding it (including LTD-wise), the creators must know that doing other stuff would mess with the player's ideas on thing.

Oh, hi there, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, Before Crisis, AC etc etc, how ironic of you to join us in the middle of this topic about the director of FFVII saying they don't want to mess with the player's interpretation. :fish:

But they still recognise that everyone has their own interpretation and they value it to some extent, which has brought my respect for the creators back up a little. But yeah, easily relatable to the LTD~

Of course, bring that up in a debate and the answer will easily be "That's got nothing to do with the LTD because blah blah this is canon blahhh" OTL

Good.

I'd be just as happy if they just made CGI remakes for the scenes.

I'm happy that they're finally stopping for a while, that basically the next book and KH/Dissdia/Threat Rhythm is all they seem to be doing involving FF7.

He's just aggravating. >.<

I know he's supposed to be a VII's version of Kuja (with the love of poetry and flair and whatnot), but really, he just an obnoxious Villain Sue. Worse yet, he actually LIVES thanks to the power of deus ex machina.

*fuuuuuuuuuuu~*

Kuja >>>>>>> Genesis.

That is all. Really disappointed with SE's storytelling with CC... which is the proverbial nail of the coffin for me as a fan of VII. I was so ready to leave and be obsessed over the Persona series, lol.

Thank goodness Dissidia came along and convinced me to give chance to the pre-VI series and replay the ones I finished before. Made me stay.

Yep. The LTD is exactly what I was talking about, since I see no canon being established in the LTD.

Heh, I was talking specifically about the LTD. ^_^ As far as I can see, there's been no canon established for the LTD.
