So I stumbled upon this page (http://www.kuponut.com/games/ff7/aeris_death.html) that discussed the theory that Aerith was possibly coming back -- or something like that. And before you question me on why I was even on this particular page, I have no interest in Aerith's ressurection nor do I believe that she will come back alive later on in the compilation. However, as I continued to skim the article, the writer included this conversation that apparently happened between Cloud and Tifa: Tifa: I wonder what Aeris felt... when she was on that Altar... Cloud: I'm sure she wanted to give her life for the planet... Tifa: Really? I wonder? I don't think that's it at all. I think she didn't think she would die at all, but that she planned on coming back all along. She always used to talk about the "Next Time". She talked about the future more than any of us. Anyways, what do you guys think? ![]() |

Tifa says this on the Highwind after everyone was in Bugenhagen's lab in Cosmo Canyon talking about Aerith. I don't think it alludes to something aout Aerith coming back at all it was always SE's intention that Aerith would never be revived because it defeats the purpose and emotion of her death. I completely agree with what Tifa says to I always thought that Aerith never thought she would be killed there, she knew it was dangerous but she did tell Cloud that she would come back when it all was over. Its also how Aerith always looked to the future to bring herself up when she was down, she wanted to have a normal life where she wouldn't be bothered by Shrina anymore. |

I think there's always been a little foreshadowing that Aerith's death isn't the end of her and Cloud. Cait Sith predicted that their stars show a great future, Aerith says she will come back, Cloud brings up finding her in the Promised Land and everything. Maybe it's just a small message from Square that there is hope for them.

I don't think they intended Aerith to come back in the game itself, and I've actually been thinking about this. It kind of makes sense if we include the line at the end, when Cloud said he could 'meet her there'. I had a theory that may be a little out there, but in the scene at the Cosmo Canyon, when Bugenhagen said that when people die, they are returned to the planet, as well their souls and become apart of the lifestream. Cetras have some connection with said planet. What if she could come back - what if the planet granted her 'reincarnation' since both her soul and her energy were within the lifestream? Her dialogue indicating she would come back is not a sign of her obliviousness to her upcoming death - that would make it unnecessarily tragic, and shortsighted on her end. I think it showed she knew exactly what was going on, and knew she could return in the end. ..or maybe I'm just being hopeful. Sigh. |

I don't think so Onigiri... Things happen unexpectedly in life, and plans don't always go the way they're supposed to when you want them too. Aerith might have been hopeful that she could return, but I think that's the true tragedy of it all. What makes her story so compelling is that she can't come back. It's not like Tidus who was just a dream, but came back because the Fayth consciously willed him to be. If Aerith had been able to come back, she probably would have already. I think that the end of AC answers that question though. She walks back into the light after telling Cloud that everything is alright, not in the opposite direction (unfortunately). I think Tifa's notion is an interesting one though-- that she honestly didn't think she was going to die, and that she was always looking to a brighter future. I can believe that, but at the same time, I must respectfully disagree. I think she knew she was going to her death, and she hoped that by some miracle, and being a Cetra, she would find a way back. But she didn't and I think she probably had to accept that she couldn't come back. She may have also lied to Cloud when she said that she'd come back, but that doesn't really sound like her, OR she might've thought that Cloud would come and rescue her before it was too late. "You came for me. That's all that matters." Almost as if she was expecting him to come. She knew that he was powerless to stop Sephiroth at that moment, but I think she also believed in him and was happy that he tried to save her regardless. |
