Yes Disc 1 always took place within 3-4 months in my head awsome work Alex.

That's a horrible misspelling of Alan.

Shortupdate, since I've been mostly working on a side quest or two. We won't count those for the timeline.

So, we're at day 105 and at the Golden Saucer...

Dio happens to like the team just enough that he's willing to give Cloud the Keystone in exchange for watching him fight at the Battle Arena.

So, Keystone in hand the team set off to leave only to find the tram broke, hence, no leaving.

The actually make a note of saying that this is one of the FEW times the entire group has gotten together in a while.

Cait wants to know everything that's been going on since he wasn't here for the start. Vincent and Cid (also not here from the start agree.)

and Barret... "I've been here since the beginning', an' I still don't know what the hell's goin' on either"

so explanation, blah blah blah, and then ... the date.

In my case it was with Aeris.

I think you all know how that goes.

The date is interrupted by Cait Sith who stole the keystone and handed it over to Tseng. He reveals that he's actually a Shinra spy and has Marlene kidnapped.

Still, he wants to go along because something bothers him about AVALANCHE. They don't get paid, they don't get praise, basically everything is against them and they're still doing what they think is right. He says he wouldn't feel good if things ended the way they are now.

Aeris, in one of the shows of spunk she lacks later in the compilation basically mocks what he's saying.
Aeris: "… and so on, and so on …"

Cait comments that "Tomorrow is the Temple of Ancients, right?" (Which would actually be impossible, timeline wise, but maybe he just means tomorrow they're setting off to go to the temple.

And from here on, Aeris is in your team. You couldn't get rid of her if you wanted to.

Little tidbits...

The first time I played this game, the traitor scene (and the fact that he's wearing the same kind of suit) made me think that Reeve actually was a member of the Turks. (Granted we don't KNOW it's Reeve yet, but still.)

Aeris is the one that presses the point of wanting to know EXACTLY who he is. Just knowing he's a Shinra spy isn't enough for her. ... maybe she thinks it's somebody she knows?

It's easy to miss, but when Cloud is retelling what all has happened, Barret asks "Cetra, is that some kind of disease?" Aeris turns to him really quickly, not normal movement speed, but fast and corrects him.

During the date Aeris says ""It bothered me how you looked exactly alike. Two completely different people, but look exactly the same. The way you walk, gesture…I think I must have seen him again, in you …*Aeris shakes head* but you're different. *Aeris bows head* things are different…"

Notice she doesn't say that they ACT alike or have similar personalities. Just that they look the same, and the way she says it seems to imply that it's all in the way he moves and gestures.

So anyway, the next day the team is off again. We'll skip the normal hanging around for a day in town, since with the Shinra in possession of the keystone, they're probably going to be in a bit more of a hurry than usual.

Hahaha sorry Alan I dunno what was going on when I typed that.

At that point I think the last time they all really got together was Cosmo Canyon. But this would be the first time the WHOLE group with Cid and Vincent joining them had gotten together. I always found it amusing how Vincent would say to Cid "Lets go back to our room" :lmao:

Wow... so it's really around 4 months when Cloud and Aerith finally go on their date...that puts it on March 23rd, right? That's awesome. :P Thanks for doing all of this Alan. It's really interesting to see how long of a time Cloud and Aerith have with each other before she dies. :C

Also, Day 106 is when they simply start to head towards the Temple of the Ancients right? It's not the day they actually get there? :/

Again, many thanks for taking the time to do this, you're really showing how bunk it is to say the entire game took place in 3 months.

It actually did feel like a long time, I remember that since of all the training and such. I totally see how this works now, and I'm glad you've been doing it. Now the question is, just how many days long is FF7 anyway period?

Don't know yet. We'll see when we get there!

(Plus, you know, give or take a few days here and there for bad weather, or getting lost, or additional subplots, stuff like that.)

Also, this means Aeris did celebrated her birthday after she met Cloud. I think it would have been somewhere around the Wutai subplot. Anyone want to go back and check the dates?

Yeah, that's when they start to head out. I haven't done the measurements yet, but I figure it's probably a few days.

... unless Cloud is stupid like I am, forgets where the Temple of Ancients is, and has to travel across the entire world to get back to Bone Villiage and have somebody tell him again. Then it would take longer.

Day 106, set off for the Temple of Ancients...

Day 112 Arrived at the Temple of Ancients.

and here's where Aeris starts acting strange. Upon arrival, she goes to her knees at first, then lays down completely, and that's before she even enters the Temple. Here, she can hear and speak with the voices of the Ancients. voices that nobody else on the group can hear. She's also saying some odd things. I actually want to repeat a few bits, because I find them interesting.

"I … I know … I feel it … the knowledge of the Ancients … floating…"

"You could become one with the Planet, but your stopping it with the strength of will."

For the Future?
For us?

"you're uneasy… but happy?"

"because I'm here? I'm sorry … I don't understand."

You also encounter Black cloaked Tattoo guy #9. I suppose that accounts for our missing clone. He vaporizes right before your eyes.

When you get into the Temple, Tseng is there and Aeris seems rather excited to see him. Tseng on the other hand is less than excited. he's dying.

He explains that he was tricked. Sephiroth is NOT looking for the Promised Land, and we have a nice bit of dialog.

Tseng: letting Aeris go was the start … of my … bad luck the president was wrong.

Aeris: YOU were wrong. The promised land isn't what you imagined. And I'm not going to help. And there's no way the Shinra could have won

Tseng: … pretty harsh. Sounds like something … you'd say

I wish SQUARE remembered that in the rest of their compilation games.

Tseng limps out of the way and collapses. He says he's still alive, but he's really not looking too good.

Aeris actually seems to be crying here. She explains how she's know Tseng since they were little and how he's probably one of the very few people that really knows her.

You enter further into the Temple and see a funny looking man. After chasing him down, Aeris has a talk with him.

"those are the spirit bodies of the Ancients. They've been away from the Planet for a long time to protect this Temple. Over the many years, they've lost the ability to talk. "

"No good. I don't understand the rest. Are you afraid…?"

A bit further, the team encounters a strange purple pool, lifestream probably, but we've never seen it purple before.

Aeris: It's full of the knowledge of the Ancients. No … not knowledge… consciousness … a living soul…" Aeris doesn't understand. She dips her hand into it "… danger? An evil … consciousness?"… show? You're going to show me?"

The Temple or the Ancients, whatever, shows the team Tseng and Elena. Tseng actually asks Elena out on a date here. Then he sends her away. Sephiroth encounters Tseng, tells him he's going to become one with the Planet and then stabs him. This explains the sorry state Tseng was in when you saw him earlier.

The Temple is HUGE and there's two separate places to rest here. to rest here. Aeris herself seems a tad spacey, and doesn't seem like she'd be in a real hurry, as she'd want to soak up as much information as she could. We'll assume they spend at least one full night in the Temple itself.

Day 113

It's on this day that Cloud discovers one of the lost secrets of the Ancients. A strange and powerful item that will serve as his signature weapon for a long time to come. I speak of course of the Nail Bat!

:cloud:

Also... you find Sephiroth. Several Sephiroth's possibly. You'll see one, he'll fly away, and then a few paces ahead, there will be another standing there like nothing ever happened.

Sephiroth explains his plan here. Summon Metero, cause a great wound on the planet, suck up the energy it would take to heal it, become God, yada yada yada.

Cloud also freaks out a bit here, but Aeris (and Tifa, who just happens to be my traveling companion here) both assume him nothing is wrong.

You also discover that the Black Materia is a trap. The Temple IS the Materia, and there's no way to make it small enough to carry without crushing whoever is inside.

Cait Sith calls you to meet him. He's going to get it for you.

He's also predicts how compatible Cloud and Aeris are. (He says he'll do it in exchange for a date. Man, EVERYBODY is trying to muscle in in this.) He says Cloud and Aeris are perfect for each other. Tifa is noticeable upset.

Cait says his goodbyes. Along the way to the Black Materia, he stumbles. Something odd has happened to him and he doesn't know what.

He says that there may be many bodies like him, but there is only one Him, and ask you not to forget him, even if another Cait Sith comes along.

So the Temple shrinks, crushing him, (and presumably Tseng.)

Aeris explains that a single person can't use the Black Materia. They don't have enough spiritual power, you'd have to use it in a great place of Spiritual power, like the Promised Land. but Sephiroth isn't like a normal person.

Sephiroth then takes control of Cloud, forcing Cloud's spirt (soul?) out of his body. Oddly enough, this manifests itself as Cloud as a little kid.

The possessed Cloud hands the Black Materia over to Sephiroth then starts attacking Aeris. Then everything goes white.

(Also Cait Sith II shows up.)

"my memory… since when…? If everything's a dream, don't wake me."

Aeris is now in the Sleeping Forrest. She's able to contact Cloud through his dreams. Cloud apologizes, but she says don't worry about it. She essentially says that SHE is going to deal with Sephiroth and that Cloud should take care of himself before he has a break down or something.

Cloud then appears in the dream himself. He can only run in place, not getting anywhere as Aeris runs off to take care of Sephiroth herself. She comments that she feels like she's being drawn.

"Then, I'll be going now. I'll come back when it's all over."

Sephiroth then appears in the dream. He tells Cloud that Aeris is going to be a problem and that "WE" will have to deal with her.

Cloud wakes up In Gongaga Village. No clue how much time has passed, but since it's about a four day travel, we'll say it's that.

next up ...

Before I go on, I just want to say that I have reached the ORIGINAL intention of my project. When I first thought of this documenting this, I merely wanted to see how long Aeris and Cloud knew each other for. Which, according to MY timeline makes somewhere around 113 days, or between 3 and four months.

As long as I've got this far, though, I might as well continue.

Now it's day 117. Sometime between day 113 and 117, Aeris left the team. At what point, we're not sure... actually, now that I think about it, 117 might be too early. ... yeah, let's forget that.

I'd assume Aeris would travel back with the rest of the team to Gongaga wit the unconscious Cloud and would probably be gone for a while before Cloud wakes up.

How she got out of Gongaga and traveled to Bone Village, we're not sure. Maybe she caught a ride with somebody. Maybe she used newly found Cetra magic powers that she learned in the Temple of Ancients. We just don't know. Yet when she contacts Cloud she's already at the Sleeping Forrest. (Unless she's just showing him a projection of where she is going. That might actually make MORE sense. Best not to think about it.)

So after thinking about it a bit more, I'm going to give her three days to get from Gongaga to Bone Village. It seems rather obvious from what Barret says that she's been gone for a little while. (note, three days is a LOT faster than you're team could make it across the world at this point, but ...eh... whatever.)

So, instead of day 117, we're at ...
Day 120
Just forget the 117, stuff.

Cloud wakes up in Gongaga to find that Aeris is missing. He's actually afraid to continue on at this point. he doesn't want to loose himself again.

But he does.

The team travels to Bone Village to (hopefully) catch up with Aeris.

This takes around 14 days I'm being kind here. I assume they're going to really be hurrying here.

I'd also imagine this is going to feel like a LOT longer to the team, what with Cloud panicking, Yuffie being sea-sick, and Barret not getting off that goddamned train or something (I'm a bit unclear as to this point.)

Day 134

Arrival in Bone Village.

Cloud finds out from the people here that she used a Lunar Harp to awaken the Sleeping Forrest and made her way through.

How she got this, we don't know.

AVALANCHE however has to excavate for one. It takes at least a full day for a dig. In my game, it took 5 tries to get one.

Let's be nice and say it took 2 story wise.

Day 136
The team gets it's Lunar Harp and heads through the forest into the City of Ancients.
Along the way you see a cave that looks like you maybe could get into it, but you can't. This plays a BIG part in many a resurrection rumor.

It takes about two days to get from Bone Village to the City of Ancients. (as lonely as I am, together we cry.)

Day 138
The team arrives at the City of Ancients. They spend a day searching for Aeris with no luck.

Here in the city you see many glowing orbs. They appear to be the words of the Ancients but Cloud can't understand them.

Eventually the team stops to rest.

next up Day 139. and AERIS! YAY!

Not yay... that's when she dies, damn it :C Cloud and Aerith really had a lot of time together, though. :C

And honestly, I could care less about the timeline for the rest of the game. I just wanted to know how long they knew each other. But now that I'm invested, I'll keep reading. :3

Actually, I always thought it was just a projection of where she was going to be, too. I don't know... maybe to ease him on her being okay or something. :/

Day 139
Cloud wakes up in the City of Ancients. Somehow he now knows where Aeris is.

"it's not an excuse. I feel it in my soul."

"Aeris's voice… coming from there."

You track her down to a room that has more of the glowing Ancients orbs than the rest of the City combined. Then down a long floating energy staircase. Then ...

Hey! it's Aeris! Hi, Aeris! :aeris:

And then something happens to Cloud. He draws his sword and is about to strike her down. You can't put it away and you can't walk away.

(You can totally ruin the mood here by having Cloud stand right in front of Aeris is repeatedly do groin thrusts.)

Just as he's about to kill her, whoever is teammates are calls out and he stops himself.
Aeris looks up at him and smiles.

Then Sephiroth kills her.

As she dies, her hair comes undone and her materia that was good for nothing falls into the water.

You fight Jenova while Aeris's theme plays. There's no victory music when you beat it.

Each team member will react differently to Aeris's death. I just happened to have Cait Sith and Barret as my team here.

Barret looks down and seems like he might be crying. He then turns to Cloud like he's trying to comfort him and walks away.

Cait looks at Aeris and then back at Cloud. He tries to do a little dance to make Cloud laugh, but seeing it has no affect he gives up and walks off.

Aeris is laid to rest in the water at Ancient Capital.

Later, Cloud explains to his tea that there's something inside him he doesn't understand, a person that isn't him.

"That's why I should quit this journey." he then shakes his fists in rage, "but I am going."

To me, it's at this point Cloud's quest stops being about saving the Planet and starts being about revenge.

I don't think the team is in the mood to continue on, so they rest here for the night.

...

Cloud met Aeris on Day 1.
Day 51 Aeris celebrated her birthday. The Team is somewhere between Mt. Nibel and Rocket Town.
Day 105. Aeris and Cloud finally have their date.
Day 113. Aeris fights along AVALANCHE for the final time.
Day 139. Aeris is laid to rest.

End disk One
Day 140.

Day 140
Sephiroth said he was headed past the snow fields, so that's where AVALANCHE is going.

(note: if you go back, you won't be able to get into the shrine where Aeris was praying). The staircase seems to be gone and there are fish and overgrown seaweed blocking the way.

You're going to have to do a bit of mountain climbing here then you're going to have to do a bit of trudging through the snow.

Day 147
A cold miserable AVALANCHE arrives in Icicle Inn.

They make an interesting discovery here. Apparently a Cetra used to live in this town! Her name was Ifalna and she knew a lot about things.

In fact, her house still isn't lived in. Here you can watch several videos and learn all sorts of stuff.

You can learn about the original Crisis from the Sky, Jenova and how if infected and killed the Cetra before it was stopped.

interesting tidbit: The video would seem to suggest that Ifalna doesn't know "The Professor" discovered Jenova or what he did with it.

The Planet tried to persuade the Cetra to leave the Area before Jenova got them.

The Planet knew it would never heal itself as long as Jenova existed, so it created Weapon, however Weapon was never used. It remains alseep but could awaken.

Ifalna says : "Times … have changed. The planet … is probably watching the situation closely." She seems horribly shaken up by this.

Just as importantly, you learn that the Professor taping everything is that Gast guy you've heard so much about, and he and Ifalna were Aeris's parents. Twenty days after she was born, Hojo found them. He shot Gast and took Ifalna and Aeris.

Hojo also says he waited TWO years for a "new sample." He just have had a lot more patience in his youth.

Man, way to rub salt in the wound with all that Aeris stuff, guys. We JUST lost her too.

While you're exploring the town, Elena arrives with some Shinra troops. She mentions that you offed her boss and doesn't belive that Sephiroth was really the one who did it. They decalre the town under martial law.

Cloud escapes by Snowboarding down the mountain!

interesting tidbit: One of the Shinra troops actually tells you that the President is going to be up North and something big is going down there. He suggests that you law low for a while.

other tidbit: It seems you've discovered the natural habitat for moogles! There appear to be a Bunch of them wandering around the snowboard hill. They've even built igloos.

Cloud snowboards a LONG ways. It would have been a full two days travel on foot, but we'll just give him one.

Day 148
Cloud and his tea arrive on the Great Glacier.

Two days later, they find Holzoff in a cabin. he's been living on the glacier for twenty years.

He assists them, gives them some climbing tips, the team rests, and the next day they head off.

tidbit: exploring the Glacier, you might find a cave with a torn up tent and some really old human remains in it. Ghastly.

Day 150
This is the first time the entire team has gotten back together since Aeris's death.

Tifa and Yuffie naturally seem to be taking the cold weather the worst. (Betch wish they'd use the pants design now, don't you Tifa?) Cait and Red aren't bothered by it at all. Oddly enough Barret seems to be fine.

So now you go cliff climbing.

Then exploring an ice cave!

tidbit: This is the first time you can encounter a Malboro. If you're one of those weirdos that writes stories were Aeris, or Yuffie, or Sephiroth, or Cait Sith or whoever has freakish tentacly things done to them, here they are. In an area that's 40 degrees. Tops.

While exploring the cave, you encounter another man in a black cloak. ... who is then killed by a big two headed monster.

Then he kills my team too...game over ... Its been a while since I've gotten one of those.

more later.

I always found it quite interesting that you found Aerith's birthplace right after her death and the videos that revealed her history. Its sad that Aerith couldn't have the opportunity to learn about her father and the truth behind her relationship with Hojo.

So, back to the Two headed dragon that totally didn't kill me. At all.

Oh yeah, and I forgot the time lapse. Between climbing the mountain and exploring the cave, there's at least two days there (probably more, since the team isn't exactly experienced mountain climbers, but they're determined at this point.)

So we'll say it's

Day 152
Where they encounter the Dragon

So now it's on to three Northern Crater.

And here is the start of where Sephiroth's clones start dropping like flies.

Two faded away right in front of you before Tifa catches up and demands to be part of the team to face him.

Oh yeah, and the Shinra have arrived in an airship and Hojo has rejoined them.

Let's see ... by my count
3 black cloaked figures fall off a cliff and die
5 cloaks collapse and die
Sephiroth kills two cloaks himself
Sephiroth says this body has served it's purpose and it dissolves

By my count that's 12 dead clones now.

A voice tells Cloud that their job is to take the Black Materia to Sephiroth.

Sephroth then reappears and swipes the team down with his sword. Then Jenova attacks.

(I enjoy the irony of beating down Jenova with Comet Materia and Cloud's Metero Rain attack)

And now the entire Team is together again.

Day 154

Cloud reveals that all this time it really wasn't Sephiroth they were after, it was Jenova cells, but Sephiroth is right up ahead and they can go catch up with him now and finish everything. Yeah. That would be nice and easy, right?

Tifa suggests not taking the Black Materia any further so they need to hand it off to somebody to watch. Only Red XIII or Barret will take it. Surprisingly, Yuffie does NOT want ANYTHING to do with the Black Materia.

Cloud, Tifa, and whoever go further and suddenly everything goes white. The Niebelham sequence replays itself, but this time Cloud isn't there. There's some strange guy with long spiky BLACK hair in Cloud's place.

Tifa tells Cloud it's just an illusion and not to worry about it.

When they replay the scene where Cloud find the town on fire, again, it's the spiky black haired guy. Cloud still isn't worried abut this. At all. Still, Tifa tells him not to watch.

Sephiroth confronts Clioud and tells him that he's a failed experiment, his memories mean nothing, and essentially Cloud just really sucks. Five years ago Cloud was "contructed by Hojo, piece by piece, right after Niebelham was burnt. A puppet made of vibrant Jenova cells, her knowledge, and the power of Mako." He's an incomplete Sephiorth clone, not even given a number

Tifa says don't listen "close your ears" Cloud shrugs and says he's not affected by it, basically Tifa is worried but Cloud isn't. He takes comfort in knowing that Tifa DOES recognize him from their past.

Tifa says she has to tell him something but just can't figure out quite how to say it. Seems like you better figure it out quick, Tifa.

Sephiroth says that the Jenova cells merged with Tifa's memories that might just happen to involve a boy named Cloud.

Oh yeah, and Sephiroth shows Cloud the picture they took in Nibelham with Sephiroth and Tifa in her cowgirl outfit, except again, it's the black haired guy and not Cloud.

Cloud STILL isn't worried. It's all just an illusion that Sephiroth made. ... then Cloud realizes that he doesn't remember how hee ever JOINED SOLDIER in the first place and freaks a little. Hes' okay though because ""that's right. I didn't have to worry about it because I was ..." and never finishes. He just assures everyone he's alright.

Elsewhere, Scarlet, Hojo, and Rufus find an area that's pure Materia.

Sephiroth tricks whoever has the Black Materia into going to find Cloud.

Tidbits here: Considering how Sephiroth was able to make the rest of AVALANCHE seemingly disappear, could create illusions that Tifa could see, and blocked Tifa's voice from everyone, it's rather obvious his mind tricks aren't limited to just working on Jenova clones.

Cloud takes the Black Materia. He thanks everybody for everything and apologizes for not living up to being the real Cloud and says that maybe some day Tifa will meet the real guy.

Hojo laughs about how perfect his experiment was until Cloud tells him he doesn't have a number. Cloud begs for a number, but Hojo insults the guy and calls him a failure.

Rufus asks who that was (apparently Cloud didn't make much of an impression.)

Hojo explains that he was a Sephiroth clone created five years ago when the real Sephiroth died. Hojo also explains about the reunion.

With WEAPON awakening and Sephiroth getting the Black Materia, the Shinra take off, telling AVALANCHE to come with them because there's still alot they want to learn.

The Crater collapses and the airship flies away and Weapon fully awakens. In fact, SEVERAL Weapons awaken and fly off.

In a dark void, Tifa watches Cloud walk away.
Tifa "... I didn't know what to do. I was always like that ..."

Now cue the flashback.

We watch Tifa find Cloud collapsed outside a train station. He is VERY obviously freaking out right in front of her, but she doesn't act like anything is wrong. He even says it's been five years since they last saw each other and she KNOWS it was seven.

Tifa comments on how Cloud seemingly knows alot of things he shouldn't and doesn't know alot of things he should.

She wants to watch him and keep an eye on him, but she heard he was going away and she didn't want that. She wasn't quite sure what to do, so she tells him about the AVALANCHE job.

Let's take a time-out here. Tifa, encounters somebody she barley knows acting really strange and with memories he couldn't possibly have, and WEARING A SHINRA UNIFORM so he tells him about her TERRORIST ACTIVITIES AGAINST THE SHINRA to get him to stay and doesn't explain to ANYBODY else that Cloud is acting funny and might need somebody to keep an eye on him.

it's like she WANTED everyone she knew to be killed in an obvious trap. She's just lucky that it DIDN'T happen like that.

next up ... A public execution!

This is great! I really really enjoy reading how other players progress through my favorite games. It's like having a commentary track on a movie. Here, have a flower for your effort. :gift:

Day 154 already... any estimate on the total number of days when you reach the end? NOT counting the last 500 years, obviously.
