If Aerith had a much more shyer and introverted personality, do you think people would like her more or less? Would you still like her regardless of some of the changes to her character?

That's a good question considering people have numerous reasons as to why they Aerith. Some hate her because of her flirtatiousness towards Cloud and find her extraverted, outspoken personality to be rather oboxious. So if she were to become more shy and introverted they would probably like her more. However, some people would probably hate her even more because now a stereotypical damsel in distress.

Personally for me I would not like Aerith as much if she was introverted and this is coming from an introvert. To me her flirtatious, mischievious, blunt personality is what made her such a memorable character to me in the first place because she isn't the demure, dainty heroine we are always used to seeing.

Aerith's personality in CC was like that. Shy and she seemed scared of everything and she took everything seriously. To be honest, I would hate it if she was like that all the time! For male characters it doesn't bother me much, but for females it tends to make me gag.

I tried not to hate her in CC just to clarify!

I know I wouldn't.

The Japanese probably would though. They're weird like that.

It's funny you say this cause some people go and say they hate Aerith because of her flirtatiousness. But they contradict themselves when they say they LOVE Rinoa because of her personality LOL.

One example is my friend who is a Cloti. Rinoa is her favorite character. She loves Rinoa because of Rinoa's personality and Claims that she loves how Rinoa just drags Squall into everything. But for Aerith she claims that Aerith is just annoying(which I find it funny cause Rinoa as triple Aerith's personality).

Anyways back to topic*
I Love Aerith just the way she is. Her personality is what makes me adore her and I wouldn't change her personality ''JUST" so that some people will come to like her more.
I'm sorry if they're too blind to see how lovely of a person Aerith is.

As an shy introvert myself, I found her personality to be endearing and adorable and I feel the same as well. Even though she subverts certain damsel in distress traits, she still gets accused of being one. But I feel that if Aerith were more shy and introverted, I would still like her(since I relate to shy characters). Though, it seems that people are perfectly fine with Tifa as a shy character, although she is an action girl but dislike Aerith for being more courageous although being a staff chick. On the other hand, they would probably dislike her more if she was shy. Why is that?

I'd have to say that people (especially girls) would definitely not like her more. From what I know, girls tend to favor girl characters who appear independent and strong-willed. A number of girls don't want to be associated as weak and dependent.

Also, if she were different, perspectives of the LT would surely change... Haha, but that's a different story.

What a character does and how she treats others is how I determine how likable a character is, so... I'm not sure what I would think about a shyer and introverted Aeris because the game would be a little different if her personality were to be different, right?

Aerith was strong willed, flirtatious, and open. It's what made her so lovable, courage is a rare trait in many people, some people are shy and introverted but it takes bravery to be open and flirtatious, considering how quickly you CAN have your heart stomped on.

Even so I am shy a lot of the time, but when I need to step up I do. It all depends, if Aerith hadn't been flirtatious and Cloud had flirted first, I'm sure a lot more people would have disliked her. That's not say introverted and shy people are bad, it's to say that what people liked about Aerith was her flirtatious attitude, or at least a lot of them did. Younger Aerith was more shy, I didn't dislike her then, but I'm glad she matured and became braver with Cloud.

But if people like independent and strong-willed characters, why is she judged for it? In Tifa's case, people liked her regardless of stereotypes associated with being an action girl.

My point is that can action girls be shy or courageous and still be generally well-liked while staff chicks can't?

Note: Yes, it's true that the game would be different if she were shyer and more introverted.

People in general likes action girls regardless of personality.
The initiative reaction is "OMG! a girl who can kick ass!! I love her" and automatically put her in the independent range. While when they see a staff chick and just calls her the damsel in distress and move on without giving the staff girl a chance.
I bet you that half of tifa's fan don't even know her personality, just that she's pretty and is an action girl.

To sum it up. An action girl is an action girl. Doesn't matter if she is a pessimists people will look pass that. As long as she kicks ass she will always be view as cool, hot and independent.

Ok. I understand. Though, does that mean that staff chicks are generally disliked regardless of personality?(In other words, Are shy staff chicks seen as weak, whiny, and clingy as opposed to being gentle, sensitive, and supportive while courageous staff chicks are seen as mean, harsh, and obnoxious as opposed to being honest, strong, and open ?)

Though I hate to admit it. I believe that's the way things are. Staffs/healers/whatever chicks are always hated no matter what.
It's the stereotypes.
Whether a girl is a staff chick, a healer, or whatever, if she cannot fight then she is seen as a weak person, physically and mentally. And if she does have a strong personality, some will find it annoying(don't ask me why, I don't know cause I love girls with strong personality whether they are fighters of not).
I think it's sad how staff girls always receive the most hate just because they can't fight. People sees a staff/healer/whatever and disregard them even if they have one hell of a personality.

I was caught up with classes so I didn't know someone replied to what I said. ^^;

AerisStrife gave the reply I would have given though. I don't word my explanations very well, so my comment wasn't very good. I'm sorry about that.

It's ok. What you said was good. It seems that most female gamers prefer female characters that appear independent and strong-willed. I generally prefer the opposite though, due to my general personality.
