WOO HOO!
I'm just saying the bad memories in CoT they're talking about are about Sephiroth and stuff. Though I don't think Cloud had many any, I can see that. I think Tifa was just kind of the spoiled kid who really didn't care or think about it much.

I kinda know what it's saying though. Think of it this way. Think of the place you grew up in, maybe even the place you were married

Well what if (sorry if this is out of line) you were visiting that place while you were there some crazy guy you used to admire burned the place down, killed a bunch of people, including some loved ones right in front of you?

I think in that case the bad memories would outweigh the good. It would for me anyway

Although I don't think Cloud and Tifa knew each other that well either. That's pretty evident when you look at the quotes and such. So happy memories together? Well the Promise maybe but that's about it for that.

I see what you mean. But, even if something terrible happened where I grew up, I'd still have good memories of the place, even if the bad ones were dominant in my mind.

And, yeah, I agree with you about the promise. It is really the only memory of a positive nature that Cloud and Tifa have together. The rest of his childhood memories were just of him wanting to be invited into Tifa's group and continuing to get ignored. Not exactly a great childhood.

Like I just said, IF they had happy childhood memories, wouldn't they have some positive memories? Like "despite all of the terrible memories from the tragedy at Nibelheim, Cloud and I still had a small glimmer of happiness in that darkness- our wonderful childhood memories of growing up together..." Something... Instead, it's ALL bitter and ALL dark. It really makes it seem as if there wasn't much to be going back there for.

I agree, Shiva. It seems to me there would be *some* good childhood memories if they had any good times there to remember.

And just to clarify - what you said here: "despite all of the terrible memories from the tragedy at Nibelheim, Cloud and I still had a small glimmer of happiness in that darkness- our wonderful childhood memories of growing up together..." is something you made up, not a quote from the book. I'm afraid someone's going to think that the book really said that.

I guess you *could* say that Tifa has some good childhood memories alone. I mean, she had a group of friends and seemed pretty popular, so she probably had some good times, too.

But good times together? No. I don't even know if you could call the Promise a "happy time" together. After all, Cloud was nervous and thought Tifa would never show - that she hated him. Then he was all embarrassed to tell her about his plans when she finally got there. Tifa was just curious about about why the hell he wanted her to come out there - so what's so positive about it?

Furthermore, Cloud was embarrassed that he didn't make SOLDIER, and even put his helmet on so Tifa wouldn't recognize him when he later went to Nibelheim with Sephiroth. And Dismantled confirms that Tifa didn't have any feelings for Cloud until he told her that he might become a hero and he left the next day. So... I still see nothing positive about it.

Yep, I just made that up. It's not official by any means. :lmao:

You make a good point. I guess the reason I think the promise is a positive thing is what it meant to Cloud and Tifa much later. It became something more than what it originally was. It was something that became very important to Tifa and it was something that aroused Cloud's protective nature for others, including Tifa. It was also the only thing bonding them together throughout the years. In that respect, I would say it was positive.
