I know it's been recently stated that their planet is "Gaia" and I don't know about you all but, I thought they were just a magical version of Earth.:/ Anywayz, if they're in their own unique different world. Why are Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus apart of their solar system? (also identical to our planets) Not only that, but in Tifa's bar, there are signs with the word "Texas" and at Costa Del Sol there's a drink called "Blue Hawaii" not only a reference to the state/island Hawaii, but also to Elvis Presley's movie Blue Hawaii.(link) In Wutai, there's a statue of Buddha. Ifrit is an Islamic/Arabic demon. In Midgar/Edge there's angels, a chruch. In Nibelheim Vincent's coffin has a crucifix cross(pic) on it. Aerith's limit is called Great Gospel in which she kneels and prays for Roman-catholic Angels(pic) to come and aide her. I get that it's Gaia now, but I have a feeling back when the game was made, it was supposed to be some AU of Earth, with just mystical creatures, magic, etc. Does anyone else find it odd for these Earthly things to exist in a world that's supposedly not even slightly close to Earth? |

Wasn't it the Ultimania that confirmed it was called Gaia? I was disappointed when it was released because you mainly get a picture of Final Fantasy IX in your head. Like how you say Forty Six & 2 I always imagined the VII world as a modern Earth. With the style of the buildings, the world, the technology, how the people dressed and how the people acted, conducted their selves it just painted a picture of what Earth could be like. I like how "magic" or the "magic of materia" was just crystalised Lifestream the essence of the planet and how that could of been from our world like how natural resources are used to create other materials and better forms of living. I still prefer to call the VII world as the Planet like it was in the game, its better off nameless in my opinion because it does give the illusion that it could be an alternative Earth. |

Yeah, exactly. But remember, they called the planet Earth in VII. Aerith's limit Breath of Earth, remember? I enjoyed believing that their world was just a slightly alternated Earth. And evidence in the game seems to suggest that it was originally our world just with some special touches. (thanks for posting, btw ^_^) |

Are you talking about Breath of the Earth? I just always looked at the name of the limit break as Aerith just tapping into the natural resources of the Planet to cure her friends from status infections. The cast mentioned the world as being called the Planet so I took that to being the name of the world or that it was just nameless. Also when you were pointing out earlier Forty Six & 2, Costa del Sol is a region in the south of Spain which is a popular destination for holidays (link) just like how it is in VII. More references to Earth and its similarities ![]() And no problem, I like to look for things like this in games and to see what could of inspired the locations and environments from real life, its fun

Whoops, Yes, that's what I meant. Also, I had NO idea that Costa Del Sol was real. Thanks for that tidbit. It really proves the big similarities between their world and ours.

I preferred it when it was just "The Planet" myself. It made it seem more real and less fantasy-y. |

I agree with you and Kuki, "the planet" was a better term for their world. |
