"Here we go again! Final Fantasy developer Square Enix continuing mentioning "Final Fantasy VII" and "remake" in the same breath. Previously, Final Fantasy VII character designer mentioned the prospects of a FFVII remake, and then FFVII game director Yoshinori Kitase mentioned how he was never tired of answering questions about FFVII remakes. Now? When asked by game site Siliconera which game FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama would want to remake, he replied, "That would be Final Fantasy VII!" "If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project," Toriyama continued. "If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake." In 2006, Square Enix released a "technical demo" depicting Final Fantasy VII as it would look in the PlayStation 3. The game was originally released on the PlayStation 1 in 1997." - Source - ------------ I'm not so sure I want someone off of FFXIII's developers list to help remake one of the greatest games of all time. |

Come away, oh human child, to the waters and the wild.

Hmm, I noticed it was sort of leading question in the first place... "Which game do you want to remake" rather than "What will your next project be." The way it was worded, it forced the conversation towards pre-existing games. Since VII is probably the most popular one, the interviewer was probably betting that it would be mentioned. It seems like she/he asked it just for the sake of dredging up the same old controversy again, without any real reason for it, since nothing new is really happening with it right now. As a person who doesn't want a remake, I wouldn't get scared about it unless something new gets said. Thanks for keeping us up on the latest, though. :) |

Maybe I'm reading this all wrong but...they're not saying that they can make FFXIII with the manpower they currently have but FFVII would take a lot more, are they? I mean, we're talking about a remake here. If so, what exactly would that be saying about the quality of FFXIII compared to older games like VII then? And, yeah, I'm not really looking forward to the idea of SE messing around with such a great game like FFVII. Considering what they've done with the compilation, chances are, they'll only destroy the greatness of what the original game was. I can just see fan-service stamped all over it ![]() If they're going to remake FFVII, at the very least, they have to have the original team handle the project. I'm not for the idea of letting someone else like the director of FFXIII do it. |

I think XIII's director said this around the time it was released back in March. I'm not really fussed for a VII remake, I think one of the reasons SE will not do it is because they know that they will be treading on extremely thin ice if anything if changed in the slightest. I would like to see a more pretty VII though. Didn't SE also consider remaking VII for the PS2? Just watch this though, they will announce the remake but it'll be on PSP

As much as I would like to see my beautiful Aerith in her beautiful graphics. I wouldn't want to see FFVII remade. Unless they follow the story line from the original game. Which I doubt will happen. So please SE don't remake it.

Remake on PSP I do not want. If anyone is going to remake my favorite game of all time, it's not gonna be on some handheld system. No, that's bunk. It has to be on a big console. Hopefully PS3 AND XBOX 360. Now that is what I'll buy. |

The director of FFXIII should not be allowed to touch a remake of FFVII, IMO. FFXIII was the let-down of the decade. If they want to remake VII, they need to involve all of the original creative staff, INCLUDING Sakaguchi. |

Agreed. Anyone other than the original developers will be a no-no.

I apparently seem to be one of the few people here that actually loved FFXIII, but I agree that the original FFVII team should be the ones to do a remake, if there is one. |

I loved XIII to, but yes the like everyone else has said it should be the original team. I don't think it will ever happen anyway, SE should just focus on making new products rather than spend so much money on a VII remake that people won't buy because of one tiny change. |

One can only dream. I have this fear that if they do a remake without Sakaguchi, they're just going to put the focus on Cloud and his past while completely disregarding the importance of Aerith, the planet, and the lifestream. I mean, it seems to me like all they've been focusing on these years in the absence of Sakaguchi is Cloud, his past, and his angst...probably because they feel it's what most fans care about. Kitase had said in an interview that Sakaguchi(who produced and came up with the original concept of FFVII) believes in spirits and cares a lot about nature, which, to me, explains why FFVII was what it was. I'm not sure how great the remake would be without his guidance. |

I'm in a love/hate relationship with the idea of a Final Fantasy VII remake. After what happened with Crisis Core, I'm TERRIFIED of what they'd do to FFVII just so that the new fans would be able to get through it without asking questions like: Where's Genesis??? <--- this is what makes me the most upset about Crisis Core... not that they added Genesis, because I do adore him, but that he was placed in the REACTOR SCENE FFFFFFFFF!!! *flips a table* But I'm also in love with the idea because I would ADORE to see FFVII with some beautiful graphics. However, I do have to add this in: I think one of the things that makes FFVII so memorable and lovable is that we don't have voice actors and we don't really have amazing graphics. We could give the characters voices that we felt suited them. We could observe a statement said in a certain way that we loved on our own (which could even change a characters personality a bit, depending on how you read/heard in your head what the characters said). The, what are now, slightly poor graphics also leave lots to the imagination. I feel like a lot of the magic that Final Fantasy VII created was personal for each person that played it. To remake it and have little left to your imagination like with Final Fantasy XIII, you will probably find it isn't as wonderful as you remembered. In fact, I know for me even if the remake was perfect, it wouldn't be as great as I remembered, because the original will always be the best to me because I have the memories of me making my first run-through of the game, with THOSE graphics, and THAT lack of voice acting that allowed me to generate their voices in my head and allowed me to read lines the way I thought fit. So, as you can see, I'm completely on the fence with a FFVII remake. Lord knows I'll freak like the little FFVII fangirl that I am if they announce a remake, but when I seriously think about it, I'm not sure it would be the best thing for SE or the FFVII compilation in regards to keeping the original magic of the game. |

I agree that it should be the original team to work on a re-make. Having Sakaguchi as part of that team would be *fantastic*, but I think there's little chance of that happening. ![]()
I think that's a good point. We'd all love to see it done in better graphics and all, but how could they ever match the excitement of the original game with a story that we all know now? Plus, *any* changes made to the original story would be hated by some and loved by others. It'd be almost impossible for them to make everyone happy, regardless of what they do.

Exactly. It's really risky to remake FFVII. And by the way, I adore your icon and signature set. <3 So cute! |
