Okay someone posted this at TNC and... well I think it'd cause problems there but in a close nit community like this I don't see it being an issue. Here's how to do it
I'm actually kind of impressed someone put this together. I don't think it'd be a problem here, but of course it's not my decision. |

Personally, I think rep systems are obnoxious. People basically just rep their friends, so it basically turns into a popularity contest. They had one at adventchildren.net when those forums were still open, and everyone hated it because of all the infighting it caused. They got rid of it after just a few months. |

Well no rep for you then  Also, did you mean popularity?
Really? ACF had one? Wow. I totally do not remember a rep system there... I probably just didn't notice it. Anyway just FYI, this one is very different from the one on ACF (assuming they used the regular VB one). Basically it only goes up by one point or down by one point. That's it. All though personally I like the ones where you can disable negative rep. But yeah it was just a suggestion... I think I'm just really impressed that you can even do it with invisoinfree. |

Yes... popularity. And I don't want no popularity! ![]()
Yeah, they did. It didn't last long, though.
Bah. The one at ACF only went up and down by one point, too.

I guess it would depend on when it was on ACF, was it in its really early days? I didn't come by until like maybe a year or so after the forum opened? It couldn't have been too much longer... |

Things like this just look like they're for ego boosts. I don't want people negatively or positively rating me. On a forum, I expect to talk with other people - I do not expect to be rated on who does or doesn't like me. |

I'm not fond of the Rep system idea either. I've never seen much good come out of them, and I think, especially in this forum's case, it's just unneccesary. I agree with Amaranth's post. |

I agree with Amaranth, too. Like I said, it's basically just a popularity contest. |

I love rep systems. But I can understand why some wouldn't. Although I think it would be problem free here. It's not really whether or not someone likes you. It's whether or not someone agrees with what you're saying. I just know when someone doesn't have time to post or doesn't really have much to say Rep is a way they can tell the person they agree without it going to PM. |

I despise rep systems. On one of my forums people not only rated their friends but when the Twilight LTD come around, people are trying to give negative points for former "friends" that refused to participate. So I ended up trashing it amd have had to ban large groups of rabid members. So given that experience I'm a bit wary not to mention popularity contests are not what forums should be about. |

Man, the forum I belong to never has rep problems. Why's it so bad elsewhere? :o |

Well LTDs and Twilight are probably some of the answer. LTDs generally bring out the worst in members from what I observed across many forums. |

There's always one or two people who ruin it. I remember on this one forum I went to, this one guy... if you EVER negged him, he'd get angry, leave a bitter comment on your profile page and start negging you for no reason. He accused me once of negging him because he negged a friend of mine.. uhm... how am I even supposed to KNOW you negged a friend of mine? I have better things to do than read other people's negs and pozzes  |

A full completely auto-mated reputation system. You can view reputation logs, and see the messages the members left behind when reputing a member, and you can rep as long as you are a member.

Yes... popularity.
