New Divide is a pretty awesome song. I really enjoyed Minutes to Midnight as well, it's the only album of theirs that I can listen to entirely without finding a "bad" song. I don't like the amount of rapping on the other albums.

Should be buying tickets to go see Emilie Autumn and YouMeAtSix on Friday, yay! Not at the same gig. Obviously.

You put the code down...

Code:

[youtube]YOUTUBE ADDRESS HERE[/youtube]

The YouTube adress comes after the heavy font;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sDeFnljmNo
Always copy the coding after the =

After you copy the address, put the adress in between the two youtube codes.

It should look like this;
Code:

[youtube]1sDeFnljmNo[/youtube]

Something that's been on my mind all day, and I thought to ask here because this is a club for rock music, is what is the appeal of this genre of music to its listeners?

I'm really beginning to question why I listen to every band. Some I have massive answers for and some I just don't have a clue. The Mars Volta is quite literally the only band I'm listening to right now, all I've listened to for days on end, and that's because they're doing something different. They don't sound like anyone else. Their songs are so layered that I'm still finding new references, new details in the background of their songs, even on the 100th listen. That complexity is complete art to me, I get lost in their music and it takes me somewhere special.

But when it comes to a band like Metallica, for example, I don't really get that. I hear something to nod your head and jump about to. And that's fun! Just not in the same way, really.

I don't know, it intrigues me, because I do wonder what people take away from listening to certain artists or genres.

Cold..... But I'm still here.
It isn't quite as complex for me, though I do like to dissect my favorite artists' music once in a while after listening to them for so long, just to listen for all of the elements and fragments of sound/music that was added to create the unique sound that they're known for. But this is rare for me, really... I typically listen just to get that powerful rush that rock music provides.

Well, I listen to the music I listen to for a few reasons.

Unlike most rap or hip-hop and R&B songs, rock, alt, indie music seem to have deeper meanings in their songs. I'm a person who listens to songs because of how great a meaning is behind the lyrics.

Also, in rap or hip-hop and R&B songs the beats seem upbeat and fast, but there's no music behind it. It's a computer doing all the sounds you hear. Their voices are most always synthesized somehow.

And usually, their voices always end up sounding exactly the same.

But with rock music their music flows together. The drums, bass, guitar, and singer all compliment each other and work together, yet usually, they all pull you into each individual instrument at the same time.
With rock music, I find meaning and can relate to not only the lyrics, but most likely what the singer/lyric writer went through. It makes you realize that "Oh, yea. This person who wrote this song is human too, just like me. "

And if you have a problem, and a song seems like it relates to you, it really helps to know that you're not alone in feeling that way.
Because, their songs are proof that people do know what you're going through.

You can't do that with hip-hop music. How many people can say they can relate to A-kon when he's talking about driving a Lamborghini back to his million dollar pad to get "low" with a super hot super-model?
Not many.

That's why I listen to bands like Kings of Leon, Lynrd Skynyrd, the WHO, CheVelle, Keane and pretty much any other band I'm in love with.

My latest CD aquisitions:

Chevelle: "Sci-Fi Crimes"
Within Temptation: "Mother Earth"
Nightwish: "Wishmaster"
Nightwish: "Once"

My favorites are the two by Nightwish. :D

Somehow I missed your post, otherwise you would've heard me squeeing about the Nightwish purchases ;) They're pretty awesome, I definitely prefer Once to Wishmaster, though Wishmaster does have Dead Boy's Poem! <3 Within Temptation's Mother Earth is pretty fantastic as well. In Perfect Harmony is one of the most beautiful, peaceful songs ever.

I haven't bought much lately, been going through a dry spell. Picked up Tool's Lateralus which I'd been meaning to get for ages, as well as Avenged Sevenfold's latest which is pretty good. Got The Suburbs by Arcade Fire as well which is outstanding, but I'm not sure they belong in this thread :P

Heh... I just bought "Angels Fall First", "Oceanborn", and "Century Child" by Nightwish. :P The first one isn't that great. It's obviously a first album. But, the other two are pretty good. I especially love "Bless The Child" and "End of All Hope" on "Century Child". :D
