Does anyone have the line that references Aerith as Cloud's koibito but not written in Kanji? Basically I want this: "Tifa wa ironna tachiba wo awase motte irun desu ne. Haha no you demo ari, koibito demo ari, isshou ni tatakatte kita senyuu demo aru" For Aerith's line if possible. Thanks. |

The Romanji for the line you posted in Japanese is: "クラウドは女の友人であり、恋人であり大切なものの象徴であり、守るべき存在だった。" Kuraudo ha omina no tomo dewari, hito dewari koibitro dewari taisetsu namo no no dewari naseinono dewari shōchou dewari, mamori beki sonzai dasuda. And it says "Cloud is a friend of that woman, he's a sweetheart and he protects everything so it can simply continue it's existence.", roughly. |

If you are turning this into romanji, I think its a bit off. First off, the kanji character is onna. Second, I am reading this as Deari. It can't be dewari because I see no "wa" character---unless its something I missed. The whole word is just koibito deari. I don't see any "hito dewari". That last part can't be "dasuda"---it has a small tsu, so its datta. Anyway, I'm not doing this to offend you or anything. That is how I am reading the sentence that is posted. edited: Every time I posted, it doesn't post the japanese characters. So, I don't know if it makes sense or not. |

What aerithstrife said is right. I'm sure mine is correct because I double-checked what that line said in Romaji, and the Japanese text is match with Chibica's post below (she posted the page pic of OTWTAS : CoL) : http://z8.invisionfree.com/Cloud_x_Aerith/...topic=9357&st=0 クラウドは女の友人であり、恋人であり——大切なものの象徴であり、守るべき存在だった。 If I defines it word by word, it'll be like this : クラウド = Kuraudo (Cloud) は = It actually is said 'ha', but in this line 'ha' can be read as 'wa' because 'は' has a role as an auxiliary verb in sentence (like am, is, are in English) so it should be read as 'wa'. 女 = Onna (woman) の = no, refers to 'possessiveness' (example : watashi no hon -> my book or the book of mine) 友人 = Yuujin (friend), the kanji '友' can be read as 'tomo' and '人' is 'hito', but if the two kanjis are combined it's read as 'yuujin' not 'tomohito'. であり = deari (and) 恋人 = Koibito (lover, sweetheart) 大切な = Taisetsuna (important) もの = mono -> subject, it can be a person or a thing, depends of the context (in this case, it is 'what' in English) 象徴 = Shouchou (symbol) 守る = Mamoru (protect) べき = beki (should, must) 存在 = Sonzai (existence) だった = datta (was), like aerithstrife said, 'っ' in here is small so it's read as 'datta', not 'datsuta'. So what that line said in Romaji is : Cloud wa onna no yuujin deari, koibito deari —— taisetsu na mono no shouchou deari, mamoru beki sonzai datta. I'm sorry if my post is confusing.

My translation is exactly what it says in Japanese, word by word. I didn't translate it, but a friend did. She changed two or three words, but that's all. And that was to make it make sense :) |

I would have to agree with, Feyne Van. If you go by what the scan says, then the romanji provided by Feyne Van is the correct one.
I'm sorry, but I don't see it word by word. When you break it down (see Feyne Van's post since my Japanese fonts doens't show up) that is what I saw too. There is no "dasuda", "dewari" and no "hito dewari" in front of the "koibito deari". By adding or changing some words in, it derives what the original meant and becomes something else. Here is how it would come out (when I ask 3 different people):
That is how they read it, if you go by the original line. Anyway, I'm not picking a fight or anything, I just wanted to point it out that I didn't see it the same way. |

Oh, well mine was just taken from the Japanese one and fitted to be almost the same. This is what my friend said when she translated it, and she knows Japanese and many other langs.
