I was thinking about this for a while and I've finally decided to post it here, now I'm not really informed on this so I'm prepard to look a darn fool >

Okay here goes, well in Kingdom Hearts 1 Aerith and Cloud are both featured no Zack and no Tifa, Cloud and Aerith in our minds are reunited romantically, Well I find it a bit strange that Nomura decided to give Aerith a Red Ribbon in a Series of game, which she's with Cloud in.

The Same goes for Kingdom Hearts II, Aerith has a Red ribbon, Changing it from the Pink one which was: "a dear gift from a lover she can't get over".

Yes, I've heard the same thing. In fact, I wrote about it on one of my older sites:

Japanese Culture and the Love Triangle of FFVII

The first symbol that we see of Cloud and Aeriths love for one another is that she wears a ribbon in her hair As in many Asian cultures Japanese folklore says that future lovers are connected at birth by a red ribbon and that lovers are destined to be with one another This ribbon of course is invisible to humans but spirits and gods can observe the interconnections between fated pairs Any match ups between two people not connected by the ribbon are destined to fail.

Also from: Askville:

In Japan, a red ribbon can be used to indicate that “these two people belong together.” This is based on a superstition that soul-mates are connected to each other by an invisible red ribbon.

From Moons, Ribbons, and Sneezes:

The red ribbon that Sailormoon wears in her hair also has mythic significance. Like many asian cultures, the Japanese believe that lovers are predestined to meet, and a red ribbon connects future couples.

- I had other links, too, at the time I wrote that site. But many of those links are broken now. :(

So I think the ribbon may signify that regardless of which game Aerith is in. ^_^ Basically, it signifies that Aerith is the love interest of the game. I should also note that different shades of red (including pink) are considered "red" by the Japanese.
