What's your opinion on Ocarina of Time?

Oh boy, I hope I'm not about to make any enemies here already, as you all seem awesome. But here goes...

Ocarina of Time, IMHO, is too open-ended for it's own good. Link doesn't move fast enough to cover how large Hyrule is (not to mention there's TWO Hyrules you have to fully explore), and a lot of mandatory items not only don't seem mandatory initially, but are often hidden in stupidly obscure locations. I've played through the entire game three times, and I needed a FAQ every time. That's bad game design IMHO.

Also, while previous Zelda games focused more on combat and exploration than puzzles (though certainly there were puzzles), I didn't like how puzzles were now THE main focus of the game. I guess that's more personal taste than anything though.

Oh, and the plot's not very good either by Zelda standards. I guess it was ok for it's time, but it's hard to take seriously after how amazing the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess stories were. Plus OoT doesn't have very good story pacing anyways (another downside to being open-ended).

On the plus side, the controls were amazingly good for the first attempted 3D game in the series, and the core gameplay of walking around, fighting, using tools, etc. is very well implemented. Tis a shame they didn't really get it right until Wind Waker.

I'd probably give OoT a 6/10. It's core elements are fun, and the game was very innovative for it's time. But unlike most gamers, innovation means nothing to me unless it's done in a way that's intuitive and works, and I don't think OoT managed to do that.

Are you a huge fan of a certain couple with Link, or do you prefer him single?

If based purely on sex appeal, I'd pair him with Twilight Princess Zelda. I honestly think that version of her is even more attractive than Nintendo's other poster girl, Samus Aran.

If Ocarina of Time were a stand-alone game, I'd pair him with Saria. She's a sweet girl, and I could tell she was crushed when she realized she'd never be with him.

If Twilight Princess were a stand-alone game, I'd pair him with human Midna. Midna has hands down the best personality of any female character ever in the history of Nintendo. And she's quite easy on the eyes too (at least once she gets her true form back).

Overall however, I think it's blatently obvious that he and Zelda are an item. Not a particularly original answer, I admit, but hey, some couples are just made for each other.

Quote:

Best item ever in a Zelda game?

The Double Hookshot in Twilight Princess. The regular Hookshot was already my favorite, but now there's two of them! I only wish you had more than one dungeon to use it in.

Did you like the sailing in Wind Waker? People bash it for that a lot!

I actually don't have any particularly strong feelings about sailing. I didn't really love it or hate it. It was definately better than slogging across Hyrule Field in OoT though, and is still better than the crappy sailing system in Phantom Hourglass.

Quote:

have you seen the film Silent Hill? If so, what did you think of it?

I loved the first 45 mintues of the movie and utterly hated the rest. The first part of it actually felt like the game... she went around exploring the town, avoiding monsters and dealing with scary stuff. Then it gets a stupid plot that makes the stories of the first four SH games (I haven't played Origins or Homecoming yet) all seem like masterpieces by comparison.

Sorry, but as much as I love the games, I did not like the movie.

Quote:

And do you like the Resident Evil games?

Overall, yep, I sure do! Though I don't like ALL of them. Quick rundown:

RE0 - N/A
I got bored with it a little ways into disc 2 and never finished it. I actually liked the RE0 portion of The Umbrella Chronicles better than this actual game.

RE1 - 7.5/10
It's kinda boring just running from zombies for the first half of the game until you get a decent amount of ammo. But it is a very spooky and atmospheric game, and the voice acting is so amazingly bad in the best possible way.

RE2 - 9/10
A huge improvement over the first game. Now there's more focus on combat without abandoning the exploration and puzzle elements that help make horror games what they are, and the plot is much more in-depth. I don't like the overall cast as much as RE1, but Ada Wong makes up for a lot of that by herself. Plus with two different ways to approach the game, it gives you more bang for your buck than any other game in the series.

RE3 - 10/10
I'm probably biased since this was my first real RE game. But it's simply awesome, and thanks to the terrifying and persistant Nemesis, it scared the crap out of me way more than any other RE game before or since. Plus Jill Valentine is an awesome character, and I liked exploring the open Raccoon City far more than the mansions and facilities of the other RE games. I also like how the there's tons of subtle, yet different ways the story can play out, even if the end result is always more or less the same.

Code Veronica - 7/10
I didn't like Claire or Steve much, and some of the puzzles really infuriated me this time. However, this does have a nice and surprisingly lengthy campaign for an RE game, and it was sorta nice to see Chris return. However, I thought randomly bringing Wesker back from the dead and suddenly establishing him as the main villain in a series that seriously did not need a main villain was the single worst plot move in RE to date. Still, it was a solid game overall, it just didn't appeal to my personal tastes as much.

Gaiden - Crap/10
If you don't know, this was a really bad GBC game, and the less said about it, the better.

RE4 - 8/10
I don't like the extreme focus on combat at the cost of EVERYTHING else (even if said combat is quite fun) since this is supposed to be survival horror, and this is by far the least scary game in the RE series. The plot also takes several hours to get even remotely interesting, and is terribly paced until the last 2/5 or so of the game. However, the game is extremely fun despite my minor complaints, and works extremely well as a pure action game as opposed to survival horror. If you play it on the Wii, the incredibly precise controls and boatload of extra content make it one heck of a good purchase.

It also makes me sad that RE5 won't see the light of day on the Wii, as it's controls are PERFECT for the gameplay aspects introduced in RE4.

Whew, another long post done!

I've played through OoT countless times and I'm like a walking strategy guide for that game. :fish: I'm very open-minded towards people with differing opinions though so don't worry. I completely agree about Midna's character and how you put Link with her and Zelda in different instances. I have my Link/Zelda and Link/Midna moments. I also ADORE the RE series and I completely agree with you how RE5 should be on the Wii as well. RE4 was amazing on the Wii and I have all three console versions as well as the rest of the series, but that's because I'm a nerd. D:

What else are you into besides games and anime?

Is there anything in particularly you (or anyone else) is hoping I'm into, if ya don't mind me answering in the form of a question?

Or to put it another way... there's quite a few other things I'm into. The question is whether they count or not, because I haven't actually done much with my other interests lately thanks to working and having a GF (which is totally cool with me XD).

If so, some, but not all, of my other interests include...

- Movie going (though I'm starting to think movies have decreased in quality lately)
- Walking around the neighborhood
- Bookworm (though I seriously need to catch up on my novel reading)
- Chatting on AIM
- Writing short stories, reviews, and essays
- EXTREMELY casual interests in Hiking and Tennis (they're more like stuff I happen to enjoy doing with relatives who ARE interested than interests of my own).

I used to draw a ton when I was a kid, but just sorta stopped around 3rd - 4th grade. I like writing better :P

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I'm an extremely casual music listener compared to most people, so keep that in mind okies?

That said, probably either Evanescence or AC/DC. Two totally different, yet equally great bands in my eyes.

Sorry if that's a disappointingly simple answer, as my musical tastes aren't really that refined

woah. Heres another agreeeable U have so many interests tt mirror mine as well man! I completely agree with all your resident evil rankings (except I would have rated RE4 a 9 because the adrenaline blows me away) and noted - Silent Hill 2 has got to be the horror game with the best plot ever. I love the soundtrack and the alternate symbolism between Mary and Maria, and the twisted path he had to endure before finding out the truth and ultimately himself. The storyline had more depth than I could have possibly imagined. And I couldnt sleep in peace for days after Pyramid Head's appearance! I wonder which ending did u get...?

The silent hill movie was quite sad. Though it wasnt the best horror movie, at least it was better than those crappy RE movies.

U dislike Gaiden, but do u like Ninja Gaiden (if you've played it before???) on xbox/360? IMO its the best action game i've ever played in my life.

I'm a metal gear solid fan too XD Looks like we've a lot in common mate!

Another question: Which is your favourite Evanescence song / do u like any other rock bands? Oh, and which FF have u played? Whats ur favourite movie? Lol i should have written question in plural

its hell fun asking abt others' live XD

With no outside influences or any foreknowledge of the ending system, I got the Leave ending. Which means Silent Hill 2 is one of the very few video games in existence where there's multiple endings and I happened to get the best one on my first try without a FAQ XD

I like the NES Ninja Gaiden games. They're simple, yet incredibly fun and difficult, and have extremely impressive stories and presentation for NES games.

By comparison, I don't much care for the Xbox Ninja Gaiden (haven't played Black or NGII). It seemed to me like a Devil May Cry rip-off with needless complexity, big boobie chicks, and heaps of blood and gore added for shock value. I was also VERY disappointed that it had LESS plot than the freaking NES games.

It's not as difficult a game (at least on the Normal setting) as most people say either IMHO. It's just rather constricting on letting you regain your health and spiritual power, and has far more moves than are reasonably necessary to fight and finish the game, so it can be confusing what you need to do in certain situations. And... maybe it was just me, but it seemed to me like the game encouraged grinding more than a lot of RPGs I've played.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good game for what it is, I'd probably give it a 6.5/10 (keep in mind that's still decent as I actually use my ENTIRE ratings scale). It just doesn't appeal to my tastes at all. The M-rating in itself won't turn me away from a game, as there's plenty of games like Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, the Shin Megami Tensei series, Half-Life, etc. that I really enjoy. It's the games that go for the M-rating "shock value content" (think God of War) as opposed to having meaningful and artisitic mature content like the games I listed, that tend to turn me off (that said, I did somehow manage to finish Grand Theft Auto III, though it's the ONLY GTA I've enjoyed enough to finish).

Wow, I need to step off my soapbox

Which is your favourite Evanescence song

I've got three, in no particluar order: Bring Me To Life, Imaginary, and the second version of My Immortal (it's the bonus track on the Fallen CD).

Speaking of which, Fallen is one of the very few CD's I've listened to in my life where I actually liked EVERY song on the CD, and that includes Greatest Hits CDs and the like.

Quote:

do u like any other rock bands?

AC/DC
Bon Jovi
The Beatles (mainly just for Paul McCartney)
Linkin Park
Queen
The Eagles
DragonForce
Aerosmith
Nirvana
Iona (mainly just for Joanne Hogg)
Savage Garden
Guns 'n Roses
Nightwish
Lacuna Coil

I'm probably forgetting some stuff. Also, instrumental Jazz bands and anything from the 80's are fair game ^_^

That said, I could probably count on one hand how many music CDs I own (not counting stuff like video game soundtracks that came free with a preorder or something). Even my MP3 player is only half-full, and it's an early gen model with laughable storage space compared to modern stuff.

Oh, and which FF have u played

Beaten:
FF1, FF2, FF3-DS, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FFT, FF8, FF9, FF10, FF10-2, FF12

FF4 - FF8 are my favorites.

Played, but not beaten:
FFTA, FFCC, FF4-DS, FF12-RW

Whats ur favourite movie

Based on number of times watched, The Empire Strikes Back, The Princess Bride, and Aliens would likely win. I've seriously lost count of how many times I've watched those.

I think The Godfather is objectively the closest thing to a perfect movie ever made, and while it's not my favorite, I enjoy it a ton.

I don't really have a single favorite though :P

Keep the questions coming! :D

There's no such thing as unoriginal. If I've not been asked a question before, you shouldn't even consider unoriginal, even if it is cliche :3

And if I HAVE... well, I can elaborate further, or I might remember stuff I didn't last time, so it never hurts!

Anyhoo... I can narrow it down to two characters: Vincent and Balthier.

Vincent because...

- I like FFVII's setting
- I'd be interested in seeing what happens to the planet after the events in DoC
- I could hang out with Yuffie and Cait Sith (and slightly off topic, but I like those two a lot more than most FFVII fans)
- No one would bother me, and anyone who messed with me would have to deal with my five claws and three highly upgraded firearms.

Balthier because...

- Fran. I'm not really a huge fan of hers, but, skimpy outfit aside, I don't dislike her either, and she's quite easy on the eyes, to put it mildly.
- Access to the Strahl, and hence all of Ivalice.
- Balthier is most suited of all the characters for stuff like treasure and bounty hunting.

Funny thing is, I don't much like Balthier. Yet, he's definately got the good life compared to most FF chars.

In addition to oriental and seafood, anything spicy is a good bet.

Quote:

If you have one day left on earth, what would you do, in the entire day?

- Make peace with at least one person.
- Tell my family how much I love them and appreciate their support in my life. Ditto for friends.
- Finish off one last game in my collection. If there wasn't sufficient time, I might just redo the endgame of something special to me, like Skies of Arcadia, a FF game, or Chrono Trigger or something. If possible, I might do both.
- Ask forgiveness for stupid/bad things I've done in my life.
- Whatever time I didn't spend doing the aforementioned things, I would spend with my girlfriend.

Man that's a depressing question. And truth be told, I think it's the first time in my whole life anyone's actually asked me. O_o

OK, new rule! Anyone who wants to ask me a depressing question may feel free to do so, but must also ask me a positive or funny/silly question in the same post to balance things out! No downers in MY topic! :P

1) Why VyseXAika?

Aika is cute, funny, and sweet, while at the same time a strong woman. Not to mention there's all kinds of hints at it... like Vyse peeking into her room when her hair is down (and boy is she pretty in that scene), Vyse getting very PO'ed when Vigoro is trying to have his way with her... and most importantly, Aika kisses Vyse the night before the final battle. I thought that was a very touching scene, and I've been a Vyka (or is it Aise?) shipper ever since.

Fina is also a sweet girl, and to be fair, I think Vyse x Fina WOULD work out if it happened, unlike Cloud x Tifa. However, I just didn't find much, if any evidence of romantic feelings between them beyond the fact that they're always nice to each other (and Vyse is nice to everyone anyways because he's super cool XD). If anything, I thought there was more evidence of a possible Fina x Ramirez relationship in the past (not much mind you, but more than Vyse x Fina).

Quote:

2) You have to choose between RyudoXElena or RyudoXMillenia. Which is it?

The sex would be out of this world between Ryudo and Millenia between the former's stubborn, hard-headed, and fiercely energetic personality, and the latter's over zealous sex drive and fun-loving yet dominating personality.

However, in ALL other areas, I think Ryudo and Elena are the ones I'd choose. Elena is INCREDIBLY tolerant to be able to put up with Ryudo's BS for so much of the game... and yet Ryudo did finally warm up to her and mellowed out a bit in the process, which even now seems impossible for him IMHO. Sounds like love to me ^_^

What are your reasons for liking Vincent/Yuffie? D:

Any reason why you don't ship Vincent/Lucrecia? :fish:

For Yuffentine:

- Yuffie clearly cares about Vincent, is always concerned about him, and saves his butt on a few occasions. And then she blushes like a school girl when he shows actual appreciation for it.
- Vincent has had such a depressing life, and his first relationship was so screwed up beyond belief, I think Yuffie is the pefect, hyperactive perky young lady to brighten his life up.
- Yuffie and Vincent are such total opposites, it can't be a coincidence. Male and female. Old and young. Depressed and energetic. Analytical and impulsive. And yet they get along very well, and IMHO make a cute couple.
- Why else would Yuffie get more screen time than any other returning character (except maybe Reeve) in the game starring Vincent? She didn't get much screen time in AC after all.

Against Vincrecia/Lucent (is there a canon name for this pairing btw?)

- Lucrecia is REALLY depressing to be around in general.
- Lucrecia, intentionally or not, seriously screwed up Vincent's life.
- It's been a long time since I've played Dirge of Cerberus, so I don't remember all the details. Regardless of the circumstances though, the whole thing about her being the wife of Hojo, Vincent's worst enemy, and having his child... well, I could completely sympathize if Vincent wanted nothing to do with that.

I'm not saying Vincent x Lucrecia couldn't work, as they both seem to still genuinely care about each other (again, unlike Cloti). But you gotta admit, their relationship was REALLY screwed up, and Vincent must feel incredible guilt... if he'd stopped her, so many lives would've been spared in the long run.

Plus I'm extremely biased. I'm one of the few FFVII fans who likes Yuffie. Or rather, REALLY likes Yuffie

Nice.

I'm not either in itself, but it's often fun to see what words they form (i.e. Tina in FFX's case... and let's not forget *subtly points to own screen name*), and is somewhat convenient.

MAYBE Leon x Ada.

I loved them in RE2. RE4 was a great game overall, though it kinda rubbed me the wrong way in the plot department, and unfortunately, that does carry over at least a bit to Leon and Ada for me.

NES - Super Mario Bros.
Game Boy - Tetris
Sega Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog
Super NES - Super Mario World
Playstation - Final Fantasy VII
N64 - Killer Instinct Gold (the only game on this list that I no longer own)
Dreamcast - Sonic Adventure
Playstation 2 - Soul Reaver 2
Gamecube - Super Mario Sunshine
Xbox - Star Wars: KOTOR
DS - Sonic Rush
Wii - Sin & Punishment (first Virtual Console game, AND first game period on the Wii); Wii Sports was the first actual Wii game I played on it

Thank ya XD

I can't help it though. Yeah, ok, I don't like that she stole the materia, but she's so cute and hyper and bubbly all the time AND she doesn't come off as a skank like Rikku does. And she develops a really sweet personality by Dirge of Cerberus. And she's cute by the time of that game too. GAH, I could go on, but I'll stop there.

This one is subject to change, as I don't like ANY song to be stuck in my head for too long.

As of right now though... I've had Layla by Eric Clapton and Ghost Love Score by Nightwish actually stuck in my head for the last week or so. And neither was entirely unpleasant. Out of those two, I'd pick Ghost Love Score since it's very long, isn't too repetitive for said length, and is absolutely breathtaking to listen to even a dozen times later.

EDIT: The Tetris block I tried to describe didn't show up correctly, so I just replaced it with text.
