Thank you icor and Damaged. Now that that's said, can we focus on bashing Twilight? I come here to have fun, not to defend fandoms I like. -_- Who else doesn't buy the little bits of "personality" that SMeyer attempts to give Bella? "ZOMG, she's a bookworm and listens to classical music! SO ADORABLY UNHIP, RYT?" And Bella keeps prattling on about how much she loves books, but doesn't remember the names of the heroes from "two of my favorite Austen novels"? She starts getting "aggravated"(SMeyer's fave word to describe Bella, it looks like) because the male characters are called 'Edward' and 'Edmund'. There's something ridiculously shallow about that. Her being a bibliophile seems tacked-on to me. |

I think maybe it's that since HOMG BELLA IS A BOOKWORM, SM thinks that readers will somehow relate to her? Homg, I liek reading books too!! Homg!!! We are so alike!! Homg!! I wish I had someone like Edward!!! and then it keeps going.

Harry Potter is a good book... for children. It is an easy read. I got through 2 books in a single day. I don't mind kids reading it. It's good for kids to read novels. But teens and adults should move on to more complicated literature. I simply refuse to put it on the same level as Notre Dame de Paris, Lolita, or The Count of Monte-Cristo. Besides, I don't really think HP is the matter at hand here. |

I'm just wondering... Do any guys read these books? Because they seem like a lonely female fanfiction writer's wet dream. |

I just stuck my head in for reasons of my own- lolz. Not joining, but in answer to your question, yes, there are boys who read Twilight, CG. They keep a low profile because it's such a chick book and because the fandom is scary as hell. ![]() And it's funny you say that Kit. I read so many fantasy books and I'm certainly not a child. I hate how books are restricted to children simply because they're an easier read. |

Boys or men? And I'm not fond of how easy to read HP books are either. The text of HP books and Twilight are bigger than Texas. I like my books with tiny text that make you blind at the end.

I've met a 25 year old guy who likes to read Twilight, a 20 year old, an 18 year old, and a 16 year old. *shrugs* They hide well so it's hard to say for certain. LOL. Tiny text ftw!!!! Alantie needs summer reading. Recomendations, CG?

Vampire Hunter D novels. Excellently written even if they are translations from the Japanese novels. Also, D is awesome. And the books have some Amano illustrations. |

You must really hate Animal Farm then, what with its 100-something pages and random story about pigs. Must be like tissue to you. ![]() Anyway, definitely think that the whole "I LUV BOOKS" thing is tacked on with Bella. I mean, I absolutely adore Pride & Prejudice (stfu, k?) and it's really sad that all Bella seems to read is these EPIC ROMANCE NOVELS HOMG, LET'S DRAW COMPARISONS Y'GUYS!!11 :| |

O-kay, since HP discussion is still going strong, might as well share my two cents...
Does it have to be a matter of 'moving on'? Can't they enjoy both at the same time? I lurk at this popular HP forum and see adults--some with grown children too-- enjoying a diverse amount of books, from "The Chronicles of Prydain" to "The Time Traveler's Wife" to "A Song of Ice and Fire" but they never lose their love for HP as well. I don't know who said you should put them on the same level. I will personally LOL if anyone tells me that HP is like "Les Miserables"...but I can still like one without deprecating the other.
I absolutely cringed when I read the New Moon excerpt where she says "I had a thing for Romeo until I met Edward...Romeo's voice is weak and coarse compared to Edward's velvety voice..." It's for fangirl purposes. So Smeyer can lord Gary Stu over these other literary men.EDIT: It's sad. I was reading "The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen" and then Aragorn has that line about 'meeting in the twilight of the woods' and I immediately thought of...yeah <.< Then Arwen says her line, 'turning away from the Twilight' and I started snickering. |

Lol, dun be hayin' Orwell, nao. 1984, plz? ![]() And as for Harry Potter, I may not be a fan, but to say people need to move on to more complicated literature once they reach a certain age, lolsrryno. I know adults who read nothing but fantasy and love the genre. I would never call Harry Potter vile, as I actually think they're not bad books, even if I myself don't read that sort of thing. Think of the impact HP has made on the literary world. Obviously, JKR did something right. If you guys want to hate something, for the love of Edward, hate Twilight. Those books suck. D: |
