What bugs me is that people are comparing her to Rowling, and saying that she's more "mature" than her. While JK certainly isn't Nabokov with regards to her prose, she has a good concept of plot and characterisation, and she obviously worked very hard with her books. Even though her concepts aren't original, she knows it and works with them. And the whole Edward business is just going to further blur the concept of rape/stalkerness for young girls. "Oh, but he's hot and he loves her, so that makes it okay!" |

!!! The jump thing looks so funny. And how they (Edward and Bella) both don't resist and just cower on cue is aweshum too. On the other hand, James looks so kewl.
Yeah. o__O Being stalked should be creepy regardless of whether the person stalking you is hawt or fugly. It's not romantic when people who want nothing more than to eat you watch you sleep without you knowing. D: |

Oh yus, I saw the official scene... how wee todd did. First, yet again another random male who's interested in Bella for some reason, homg waaah, and then homg, her sparkly prince comes in!!! Insert a million awkward camera angles that are supposed to be 'artistic' but rly just looks like camera man has shaky hands or something. SO MUCH PHAIL. SO MUCH. GAWD.

You guys make me laugh so much. xDAnd I know exactly what you mean, icor. D: Rowling and SM being compared - ESPECIALLY between Twilight and HP - is absolute insanity. D: All the characters in HP were defined WELL and the plot was built up from the beginning. Eurghdfgs. D: |

Wait, what? People are comparing SM or Rowling? Uhh... no. Rowling has an idea of character devopment (or she will leave room for the character to develop more), SM... doesn't... Is it sad that I can't even look at my Twilight book anymore? lol |

Oh gawd...... I am reading it..... It reads like fanfiction, and there's so much unnecessary stuff there. I'm forced to read through immense amounts of unimportant stuff from the point of view of a grouchy character who seems to hate everything but Edward. Though she tends to act like she hates him half the time. We're supposed to find her unique, but all I see is a girl who is unhappy with everything and avoids shit because she's clumsy. Somehow we are supposed to find her intriguing. After all, five guys already like her. Gawd, the car scene I wtf'd at in the trailer makes me sad. Like Rikku said, of course the car is magnetized to the Sue so gorgeous vampire can save her. But really is obnoxious is the way afterwards, she constantly pouts about how he probably wishes he didn't save her just because he wont explain his speed and strength. WTF. I go between rolling my eyes and utter boredom. As for Edward, he's almost likable because he can be bitchy to Bella, but the constant reaction to everything relating to being a vampire is annoying, particularly since he doesn't WANT to be found out. Not to mention he gets way too into Bella's personal business, and seriously must be bi-polar with his, I hate you, no wait, I will now chat with you intriguingly before disappearing from story for awhile again so Bella can think about me even more. I really am wondering if I want to finish this. xD |

Eeeeeek. Don't. I also found Edward's logic really weird. He suddenly decides for no real reason that it's okay to talk to her even though he might kill her (OH NO?), and then he tells her (broodily handsomely so) to stay away from him, but finds it perfectly okay to take her from the nurse's office and offer her a ride to some place. Just the two of them. Hmm. |

Seriously. My theory is that he decided, oh well, I sexily warned her to gtfo, if I accidentally kill her, well, at least I got a good meal. I swear though, if he really did care about her safety like he seems to somehow, he would actually try harder to keep pushing her away, or at least tell her so in a more serious way than, Hay, I might be the bad guy, I probably shouldn't be around you but want to anyway.

Add me... NOW! I hate this so much. It is agonizing emo/goth chick vampire wank garbage! I used this book series to explain why I hate the manga series Vampire Knight. (Plus this and Harry Potter really show what is considered "good literature" in this modern era... It's vile.) |

Werd, Taco. I was laughing so hard when he pretty much stalked her down in his ~SHINY VOLVO~ and then proceeded to tell her to "STAY AWAY I'M EVIL BAD GUY DUN DUN DUN". |

Oh yes. Also when he kidnaps her from the nurse's office when she's too weak to protest and takes her to his house. ...more romantic than it sounds, rly. :3 |

NUH-UH. YOUR SUMMARY LIES. She got weak and light-headed 'cause Edward was there. Duh. I swear, Edward sounds like a medicine with a crapload of bad side effects. "May cause: nausea, dizziness, unexpected blood loss, insomnia, blindness and poor self-esteem due to comparisons with your much hotter, skinnier boyfriend." |

He's addictive too. "May cause depression in both males and females because there's no way you'll be able to resemble anything like some marble tribute to a forgotten pagan god of beauty. And your breath prolly doesn't smell like a cool, fresh, minty mountain breeze when you wake up from your dreams of inferiority."Lol, Edward sounds more like some kind of PMS.

I think you're grossly misunderstanding the difference between writing and books. Of course, you can't have the latter without the former, but novels come in all different shapes and sizes; like I said, JKR is no Nabokov and she knows it, but to dismiss Harry Potter so easily seems ridiculous, to say the least. Some books are all about the writing. If we look at something like The Unbearable Lightness of Being, it's easy enough to summarise--it's about life, love and, as the title suggests, being. However, to explain the plot? near enough impossible. One minute we're discussing Nietchez's concept of eternal return, the next about Tomas's affairs; then we move onto Sabrina's bowler hat, and how the concepts of shit [sic] and God are incompatible. Some books are there to make a point (Animal Farm), some are read to challenge us and make us uncomfortable (Lolita), but there are the books that are there for no reason other than to tell a good story. Yes, Rowling murders metaphor. Yes, her idea of romance is cringe-worthy. But she builds a solid world, memorable characters, keeps her characterisation fluid and her plot flowing, keeps anything unnecessary cut out, and has kept readers interested for years. Not only that, but she's inspired millions to read (let's face it, it's not considered "cool" in this day and age) and tens of thousands of children (teenagers, adults) to try writing for themselves. From the point of view of production, Harry Potter's done wonders for the literary world. The books are inspiring; they're complete escapism. TwiliSo indeed, Rowling's a mediocre writer, and she's not going to be composing poetry any time soon. But to call Harry Potter books vile? Hm. |

I agree that Rowling isn't the best, but neither is SM. Of the two, I'd rather read something about a magicical school than sparkling vampires. Shiny vampires are something that are a no-no when writing about those species. I can understand having a talisman to let them go out in the sun like in The Vampire Dairies where the vampires had rings to let them do that, but they still felt the effects, so they never did it much. Still bogus, but better than "OMG SPARKLE!" Anyways the Cullens do sound like a form of PMS XD |
