Nowadays, i think sustainability is a need for the planet, because is polluated in a lot of ways, and it's necessary to take care of the environment if we don't want to continue " killing" the natural resources like forest's wood for example. Even so, i'm sure there are people who think that sustainability os only a fashion, and they like to say " i like to protect the environment, i take care of the planet", this way they feel " cool" but in reality they can't see whow important is this need. For them is not to protect the environment because they see is in danger, is to protect the nature to do something. ( today is to " take care" of the nature and tomorrow if the feel is it old fashioned, maybe they will prefer to protect the animals for example). They are people who are not serious and should notice that is important to colaborate helping the planet. Evene if tourism is positive because it creates emplyment, is very often responsible for the destruction of the environment and the loss of local indentity in the host country. So this is important to promote sustainable tourism. Not only tourists but governments should be interested in preserving the environment. The underveloped countries see tourism like a remedy for their economic ill, but industrialized words are the countries which receive the most visitors. Sustanaible tourism conserves the nature, preserve the local people's identity, so it should have a long term view. To consume too much of food, wood or water is incompatible with sustainable tourism. Thats only my opinion, what do you think ??

I can't agree with you there more. I hate how people say "I'm an animal rights activist!" when in fact they are quite hypocritical and often do not follow the morals a true activist follows... They just say this because it makes them look all high and mighty or respectable. (I especially point this out considering I'm an animal rights activist...) I also dislike how people, especially famous people, make donations to charities which help protect the environment, not out of charity but just to say, "Hey, look at me, I donated a million dollars to NWEI!" for the attention. If you're going to help the environment, why advertise that you did!? I do think that sustainability is needed for the planet, AND it's considered the current "trend" or "fashion." There are the true charitable people who believe that the planet must be saved, and then there are the people who just do things to look cool. |
