Sacrifice; Who Would've Been It?

If Yuna had completed her pilgrimage and had called a final aeon, which of her guardians would have been sacrificed?

I think that Kimahri would've been sacrificed. In my opinion, I think they shared the strongest bond out of all the other characters.

Beautiful Paradox
I remember wondering about that too when I played X. Kimahri is a good choice Vincent, however I guess an arguement could have been made for almost all of them. I think the only one who would have not made sense is Auron, but then you could argue do to his relationship with Yuna's father that he would of too but it is a moot point since he already knew what really was going on with Yunalesca(spelling?).

I think it would have been between Kimahri, Wakka, and Lulu. Tidus would have offered probably but I don't know for some reason I don't see Yuna allowing him to do it.
Guess we will never know huh

yet again, today I loved you
Edit: Whoa, never knew I could write this much on such a simple question. XD

Uh, LONG POST AHEAD. XD

Well the issue, I think, with this question is that events would have been altered from the original if the final aeon was to be called. As we all know, it was their last and final choice--they didn't want to do it--so it'd have to be a desperate move on their part.

I honestly think that Tidus would be the first choice if the Macalania Lake Scene, etc. still applied, but this brings into question his vow to find a way to stop it. Considering his stubborness, I doubt he'd really want her to summon the final aeon, let alone him being the cause of it. Also it'd bring up the issue of his following the steps of his father.

A Ronso or Al Bhed [Kimahari or Rikku] would be an interesting choice for Final Aeon, especially Al Bhed, as it would certainly throw the concept of their race into a loop. However, it'd also break Rikku's own promise to "save" the summoners as well as the Al Bhed's general purpose in saving the summoners. They'd be honored and recognized, but for all the wrong reasons. And although it'd be great for the Ronso morale and pride if Kimahari was the Final Aeon, especially after Seymour's attack, I wonder who would be leader of the Ronso--as well as what would happen with Garik (see FFX-2).

Lulu and Wakka both make sense as they're almost like siblings to Yuna, but I can't see her choosing one over the other for some reason. She's very close to both of them, but I think Tidus (romantic love), Rikku (actually family) and Kimahari (guardian for all her life) seemed to have a closer bond. That's not to cheapen the bond that Lulu, Wakka and Yuna all shared which was very close, as well as their willingness to be sacrificed for the good of others (Tidus and Rikku disagree with the sacrifice of the summoner). As Lulu says herself, "If anyone has to become a fayth... I volunteer. " I think they're a logical choice, but not the choice that would have been made.

Auron is probably the least close to Yuna, in my opinion. They're close, but not exactly. They don't really have a lot of interaction, imo, although Yuna has a lot of respect for Auron and Auron is a mentor figure to the whole group (especially Tidus). Auron is truthfully unsent, however, so it'd bring into question whether an unsent person can be the final aeon. A "dream from Zanarkand" can be, as Jecht became Final Aeon, but it's never made clear whether an unsent can be. I guess since Seymour was so insistent on being the Final Aeon, it's allowed, but we're never sure if Seymour was correct in his assumption that he could be the final aeon to Yuna's summoning (especially since their bond was certainly antagonistic).

I am still painting flowers for you.
I've always wondered who would sacrifice themselves as well, and I always thought it'd be Tidus. Simply because, him and Yuna shared a loving bond with each other. Plus, he'd take the place of his father in becoming Sin. I just always pictured Tidus being the one to say he'll be the sacrifice, but reading your post, aerisbolt, I'm not sure she'd let him. So probably Kimahri would be the sacrifice. Since he has a great loyalty towards Yuna, I could see him being the one to step up.

EDIT: I just read your post Materia Theif, and I agree with you on all of your points. It would be interesting to see Rikku as the sacrifice, seeing as she's Al Bhed, but the promise she made saying to save the summoners would be kind of pointless at that point, but interesting none-the less. I also can't see Wakka or Lulu being the sacrifice. It'd probably be way to hard on Yuna to have to choose between them since they're so close with each other.

I've often wondered this question myself, and as such I think i've come to a few conclusions:

1st: It most certainly would not have been Kimarhi. Kimarhi was the character taht swore to protect her for all of her life. I doubt very much that he could actually bring himself to kill Yuna (or at least be the cause of it.)

2: I highly doubt that it could have been Wakka. While initially, one may think that Wakka would make an great choice for the Final Aeon, seeing as it would complete his growth as a cahracter from a littlerly "stupid" has been jock to a meaningful pillar of sacrafice and selfless acts, one must also remember how the character Sin played out in Wakka's story. It is the thing that killed his parrents. It is the thing that killed his brother. It is the thing that helps perpetuate his religion that he now knows to be false. If anything, Wakka is the third person (in importatnce to the storyline of FFX) that needs the cycle to be stopped.

3:Rikku. Also a bad choice.. becasue it would have been completely out of character. Plus.. the game was trying to show how the Al-Bhed were NOT badguys.. and to have her become the epidemy of a badguy would be contradictory storytelling.

4. Lulu. Now we are getting to a character that actually makes some sense. She was a failed guardian, so she has something to prove. For a character that was intially presented as harsh and unforgiving.. for her to sacrafice herself would show the true heart of her character. Lulu is a good (albiet) obvious choice.

5. Auron. Now.. here's a cahracter that totally would have made sense. WE already have a character that is dead (so he is defying natural law, and thus.. falls into the "grey" rather than "good" character type.) He is egnimatic and experiecned. BUt most imporatanly, through the Jecht Speheres spread throughout Spira.. we get to learn how Auron was in the previous adventure. We can see his failed attempt to stop Yunalesca before. For him to become the Final Aeon.. for him to sacrafice himself like his friends did before... it would be a Redemption for him.. a completeing of "His Story," so to speak.

6. Yuna. Strangely enough.. I think that Yuna sacraficing herself to become the final Aeon (if they figured out a way todo it) would have made alot of sense. Then to have to watch all the people that love her kill her so that Sin possibly might not return would have made FFX that much more tragic, and ultimetly, maybe meaningful. Death is innevitable. And let's face it.. part of this game's villians revovle around defying death.

7. Tidus.. obviously the obvious choice. Main character, parallelisms with his father. His character growth from selfsih brat (we've all thought it) to selfsacraficing hero. He makes sense. However.. it makes more sesne for him to find a way to ultimately defeat sin, and be a true Hero, and thus.. a reason why FFX went down the way it did.
