Do you think that the Final Fantasy VIII storyline was unique? I think it was. It was original. I mean come on, how many of you actual thought that you would have to battle a Sorceress from the future before you got this game? I like it so much that's why it's my favorite game.

Beautiful Paradox
I do think Ultimacia's motive was a little different from many of the villians I have seen. I am still new here so I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not played the game and so i'll leave it at that for now.

Yet for me since Ulimacia is not the first villian you are introduced to I actually felt a little detached from her in some ways even though she was controling....

For me I felt Edea's backround was more interesting that Ultimacia's, but I did like how it all came together during the game and how people were interlinked.

FF8 is a very original game. For me, my favorite thing about it was actually the battle system. I thought it was really great how they gave you total control over your character's stats. It was easy to maipulate everything from HP to Spirit and Luck. And the enemies grew harder with the more experience you got! That kept everything exciting since the bosses stayed on par with you (generally) no matter how much extra training you did.

I loved the music, naturally. Final Fantasy music is always great. "Eyes On Me" is a beautiful song. Graphics were definitely a lot more tolerable than VII's.

The story was unique, however, lacking in any real surprises or a true climax. If there was anything I disliked about FF8, it was this. Where were the plot-shattering shocks? Where was the defining climax that we had been waiting for the entire game? The biggest shock was in regards to Edea's past, but it was nothing THAT surprising IMO.

While the characters are memorable, sooo much of their pasts were left almost entirely unexplored. Okay, they grew up at the orphanage together. Who were their real parents? What were the stories of their biological parents? The fact that their relationships were rooted in their childhood together left such an open door for so many interesting tales of the past. But it was left very flat. The most we got from the past was Laguna who isn't, as far as I'm concerned despite how much I liked him, a main character.

FF8 had its strengths and weaknesses. But yes, you're right in calling it a very unique game in regards to the other Final Fantasies.
