Final Fantasy Tactics; original motive for having Cloud

Hi everyone. I just finished watching my husband play Final Fantasy Tactics, it was the first time I had seen the game and I didn't see any previous discussions about certain guest characters in that game in this area of discussion so I thought I would start one.

Of course many of you probably have either heard about Cloud's side story in Tactics or have played the game so I do not want to beat a dead horse but I was just wondering what everyone thought about him being in that game. And what was the motivation for his presence?

Was it because they were made around the same time? Or due to the popularity of FFVII they wanted to help out another one of their games. Was it to reprieve fans from the finality of a certain person's fate? :cleris:
I would like to hear some thoughts on this. Whew I write a lot, sorry!

Well, I've never played the game but I've read quite a bit about it. Someone theorized that Cloud's adventures in FF Tactics could have taken place during the period of time when he was suffering from Mako poisoning, and I'm inclined to agree. It could be a small bonus side story to explain that part in FF7 where his conciousness seemed to be somewhere else.

But as for why Square put it in the game... I think that it's sort of a treat for FF7 fans to make them play FF Tactics, I mean, that's the only reason I was first interested in it. Sort of like how Cloud and the other FF characters appear in Kingdom Hearts, maybe?

As a cleris fan, I like to think that Cloud's story was adding to the point that although Aeris is dead, there're still other places where they can meet again. Even if it's in another world, as different people even, they will meet again. But that's just my humble opinion. :P

Thanks for replying Schala! I agree with you 100%. It is definately the reason I was originally interested in those games. I mean I do like Disney fine but I was more interested to see how they would incorporate the FF characters, and once Aeris was listed as a character that sealed it for me.

Oh may I ask if your forum name is in reference to Schala from Chrono Trigger? I love both Trigger and Cross and was jsut wondering. Thanks!

Strangely enough, I believe that FFT was made BEFORE FFVII, you'd have to ask some of the other members, because I'm not too sure about it myself, as I never played the game.

Tactics is one the best games ever. (It's my brother's fav Final Fantasy) Tactics came out after 7 but before 8. So in a sense it is Final Fantasy VIII. XD Woot for Ramza  Teta! I beat the bejebus outta that game. I got all the stuff from deep dungeon including zodiac, I got master on all jobs, I had enough excaliburs to go around plus the chaos blade, etc. ^_^ I really loved it. Although, I never wanna play TA. It looks...stupid. As for the Aeris deal, she comes up twice. The first time she sells a flower to Ramza and the second is Cloud defending her. Cute stuff. Plus if you have a game shark you can put her in your party. Although, it's kinda pointless. Also in Tactics you can find Materia and the silver haired enemy Elmdore carries the Masamune. Such a Sephiroth rip off he is. Cloud's presence in the game can be described as a few things: fan service and useless. Cloud sucks as a party member unless you get Cherry Blossom. For goodness' sake he's level 1 when you find him! (Cloud started off as level 7 in the original game. Not much consistancy, right?) Plus, his materia blade is crappy too. The rune blade is better than it and this isn't even considering excalibur, save the queen, or the chaos blade. When I got him my first thought was "Hey buddy, I'm not interested in novelty! I want strength! I want an unstoppable army!" In short, he was nothing but a little toy for 7 fans. Beowulf and Reiss are better than him by a long shot and Beowulf is a little coward and Reiss can't use equipment in her dragoner job! It's a fun side quest and all but in truth Cloud is no great shakes.

FFT wasn't made before FFVII, but it was being produced before FFVII was released. So, any claims that Aerith's appearance with Cloud in this game was mere "fan service" are negated. When this game was being produced, there were no rabid CloTi fans or ClAeris fans to satisfy. They had no reason to service fans that did not yet exist. They were merely following up on the true romance in FFVII- that of Cloud and Aerith. :cleris:

Thing about Cloud in the game is that if you know how to use him and are a ridiculous person like me with fiddling around with things, he can be come stronger then even Orlandu. If your looking for a quick superpowered party member to add to your team then no, Cloud is not it. Thing is that you've got to have patience with him, but if you know what you're doing, it all pay's off.

Well, it payed off for me anyways. I invested FAR too much time into that game. ^^;

On Tactics Advance, it really isn't a stupid game. It switched things around here and there but the basic gist of everything you loved from the original Tactics is alive and well. Story mode is a bit cheesy in spots, but the tactical battles make up for it. I really enjoyed it, but I don't know about anyone else here. >_>

That's pretty cool. ^_^ I also heard that Cloud has a new final limit break in FFT. Instead of Omnislash, he has "Cherry Blossom", or something like that, that employs flower petals.

You guessed it! I ripped off her name since I loved the two Chrono games a lot back when I was playing them.

That'll be cool to see. I never thought Cloud was into flowers enough to make an attack out of it!

"I'll cut them off" O.O
Just like Ehrgeiz, FFVI(PS), and Kingdom Hearts... It's all just for FFVII fans. It's probably just to attract FFVII fans to play the game.

Believe me, there are SEVERAL people who just played Tactics, Ehrgiez, KH, Chocobo Racing, and Itadaki Street JUST because Cloud(Or some other FF character) was in it.

I know the only reason I played Kingdom hearts was because of Cloud. In fact, after Olympus Colloseum, I stopped playing until I heard there was a CloudxAeris reunion at the credits. Then I finished the game.

Same reason why I bought Ehrgiez too. =P Cloud, Zack and Vincent... Heck yes.

I mostly agree with you...except for the tiny fact that FF_G mentioned: Tactics was already in production before VII was even released. Either it shows how much the staffs like Cloud and Aerith...or else they were looking extremely far ahead into the future and just automatically assumed fans would be screaming for more Cloud and Aerith after finishing VII.

Oh that is great Schala! I have a very deep love for those games. I actually played Cross before Trigger but I really think they are great games. Do you think they will ever do a third? I continue to hope so even though it is probably to no avail.

Oh wow Mista Cloud I had never heard of Ehrgeiz before, what type of game is that? I have also heard of Parasite Eve having Cloud and Aeris in it (I think that was the game) so they make cameo's alot

And thanks to everyone for replying to the topic! :fangirl:

Ehrgiez is a fighting game, somewhat similar to Street Fighter, or Soul Calibur...but I think you are actually in a ring fighting. Some of the FFVII cast are playable characters.

Cloud and Aerith make appearances in multiple games. Some are obvious, and some are hidden to the untrained eye LOL.

XD My brother and I both knew you guys would go against my hate of Cloud in Tactics. I just don't wanna have to waste my time dealing with a level 1 character when I'm some where in the 70's. (A year passed before I went to Sweegy woods. I wanted the levels! lol) I never gave him the boot though. He just sits with my extras who I send out occasionally when I'm bored. My party is Ramza, Orlandu, Beowulf (little coward), Meliadouhl, and Agrias. I  two swords. Such an awesome ability. :woot:

Thanks for letting me know I appreciate it. Is it played on the playstation 2? I am not really into those types of games myself but my husband may be interested.

And Hades Daughter, I agree with your theories on why Cloud and Aeris were included, it was probably a little bit of both. In any case I thought their appearences were a nice addition to the game.
On the other hand, I definately understand Neko's point about taking so much time to level him up. There were already great fighters available to you. In my opinion you couldn't go wrong after getting Cida dn most of the time you are at aa critical time in the game so you can loose patience quick.
