It seems that the release of Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberes have increased demand for the original game. Enough demand for the original game may give SE more reason to do a remake. From an article at Ars Technica: Demand for copies of original Final Fantasy VII skyrockets as movie and game spinoffs rekindle the magic Can you believe it’s almost been ten years since Final Fantasy VII was first released in September of 1997? A lot has happened since then, but for many gamers like myself, the memories associated with this game are still vibrant and alive. The upcoming releases of Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus look to be firing up gamers all over again, as the demand for this game has shot through the roof. If you take a look at current eBay prices, you’ll find that complete Greatest Hits copies of the game are going for around $50, and if you want a sealed copy or an original release version, you’re gonna be paying more. Typically, this sort of thing happens to the rare cult classics that have had fairly limited print runs, so for a game this popular that has millions of copies in distribution to have such high demand 10 years after its original release, well… I really can’t think of a phenomenon quite like it in the video game industry. Face it, Squeenix. You’re gonna have to do a remake or something - and not just because of the ginormous profit potential. If you don’t, fans are liable to break into your offices and cannibalize your staff. Alternatively, if you wanted to sell a lot of PSP’s for Sony, put it on there. I’d buy it. Source: Ars Technica |

Well, I guess its quite interesting to read this, knowing that there are fans who want a remake. But I guess I wouldn't called this a reliable source until I hear it come out form SE's mouth itself. Then again, it won't be long until E4 or E5...oh whatever # the gaming expo's on to see what SE will reveal for this year...or next.
If there was to be a possible remake, I rather see it on DS or Revolution. Innovating a game or doing something new is, I think, way better for a remake to sell that well. If its just the same o same o, with better graphics, I'm not sure if I'll even buy it. (Heh, knowing me, I'll probably will....probably.) But if they were, like to say, like Capcom, with what they did to RE for DS and GC, it would surpass the original FFVII and make it even better. |

Oh good grief. I don't want anything more to do with FF7, be it PS3 or PSP or whatever. As un-fan-nish as it sounds ( ) I'm sick of the FF7 compilation. With every new project they unveil, they contradict more and more of some fan's opinions and focus more and more on fanservice and pretty graphics. I say, no thanks. I hope this is just a rumour..

Thanks for the article, Anastar! ![]() Nah, the article is just saying a remake would make sense considering the rekindled interest in FFVII. It's not saying anything official at all about a remake, although from certain interviews, it seems all it takes is exceptional sales of a game to make SE consider a remake/sequel for it. Nevermind the storyline aspect of it all. <_<
I actually don't mind if it's remade just for prettier graphics. I don't want anything of the original game changed at all, except for some cleaner translations. I hate to think what annoying "changes" they'll make to the storyline if they redid certain scenes. I can just imagine the number of "vague" LT-related scenes that will pop up, and I honestly don't think the remake will be as heavily pro-Cleris as the original game was. <_< |

True. I'd say my number one fear (and dominant over the good things about a remake) is that they'd screw it up. With things recently, they most likely will. I'm most afraid of changes, maybe even changes to fit AC, DoC and other compilations??? (i.e. Vincent/Yuffie being somewhere else in the end of FFVII thus their exclusion in the ending FMV) That'd be scary... |

Ah so am I. FFVII has been squeezed enough and its time to let it go SE. We've had enough of FFVII and would like more new stuff from you. Maybe such as FFXII? |

*has bad feeling* No. If I have to play an FF7 game that has OC SOLDIERs, Shalua, Denzel, the OC Turks, the OC Avalanche, Gackt, the Kitchen Sink and what have you running around, no thanks. |

Interesting... especially with CC supposed to be the ‘ending’ of the Compilation (ending with a prequel? Weird stuff...). There is definitely a ton of rumors concerning the remake, and even if they are (and they ARE, so far) based on thin air, they signify some customer demand.
Or perhaps they could come up with enough choices to allow each player to play towards his preferred - and definite - conclusion (not really their style, but...) Still I generally agree, not much chance for them to drop the “vague” stance, especially if they want it to agree with the Compilation... (sigh).
Yeah, that’d be... (shivers). Still, I’m about 50/50 on this ‘remake’ thing. Seeing the graphics redone would be nice, and to say the truth... from what we’ve seen from the Compilation so far, I get the feeling that an all-out sequel (extremely unlikely and even more scary) or remake of the original is the only chance for us to see some decent story set in FFVII... So I’d rather take the risk and get that than see more of the recycled Compilation stuff laced with generous fanservice. |

Nothing unforseen, I must say. With this Compilation+Fan-Service, they marketing-wise resurrected VII. Even if it's sad, Who can blame them? Money is as precious in here as in Mars. |

I used to think it'd be really great if they remade FFVII, but I'm not so sure anymore. If it was redone purely for graphics, I might enjoy that. Seeing some of the FMVs from the original game (especially the ending and Aerith's death scene) would give the drama of the story more caliber. But I'm too afraid that they'd make changes to the lines and LT scenes. The game was heavily Cleris. I know Clotis would disagree, but the game was about 90% Cleris and 10% Cloti. CloudxTifa seems more like a replay sidequest than a canon love story. Square didn't have to worry about appeasing their fans back when they made the game because it obviously didn't have any fans yet. They made the game the way they thought it should be which, IMO, was very much Cleris. Now, just to avoid losing some of FFVII's fanbase, I fear that they'd remake the LT so that it's equally biased for both Cleris and Cloti. Minus the graphics, the game was fairly perfect. Can't we get better graphics without any other major changes to the game ?

I've been hearing all sorts of things about something extra to actually tie-up the compilation nicely - but I'm not sure if it's just a rumour. I think it was in one of Nomura's interviews. Somehow I have a bad feeling that CC won't be the end we'll see of FF7. <_<

I personally would really love to see a remake of final fantasy VII. I wouldn't want them to change anything, but I would really appreciate the graphics. There are just some scenes that would be great to see with better graphics. |

The only thing I wan't SE to do with the original game is remake it in better graphics. With the same words and scenes. I really want to see the whole game in the same graphics it was in that PS3 demo. But I don't think they should make any changes to the script. |

OMG! I sooo want a remake!!!! Just to see Aeris alive in super-good graphics.... dream come true!!! Why wouldn't people want a remake? I've seen that some reasons are that they might destroy the game.... like mess the story up. I don't care i just want it remade!!!!
