I actually mentioned something about that before, I think they killed Aerith off a little too early in the game. I think they should of kept her in the first disk and atleast half way throught the second disk. I would of loved to have seen more time between Aerith and Cloud

I don't understand why people would vote no on this one (at least on a CxA forum). Cloud and Aerith are absolutely perfect for each other. I would've loved to see their relationship develop further. I love Aerith. She's one of my favorite FF characters ever, but I guess her death did serve a purpose and it definitely added a dramatic effect.

 Oops.

I'm obviously pro-Cleris, but I'm not sure I'd want the game to have changed like that. I thought the timing for Aerith's death was near perfect, especially if you got her for the date at the Gold Saucer. Now, hear me out before stoning me!

Aerith's character and her past were very enigmatic, for the most part, as were her feelings for Cloud. You knew she liked him, but since the plot of Disc One was more towards collecting new members of your party and being teased by Shinra and Sephiroth, you never really got to see those feelings surface in their entirety. You saw her flirt a bit, tease Cloud a bit, get aggravated by him a bit, and you even saw her angst a bit at Cosmo Canyon.

But get her for the date (which I believe to be the canon date), and you see her spill almost everything about her feelings for Cloud there. That was Aerith at her most earnest, personal moment-- when it was just her and Cloud and no Cetra heritage to overshadow her character. It was like getting a couple of toes through the door leading to her character.

And then we immediately shift back to Overall Plot Mode, Temple of the Ancients happens, lots of slip-ups occur almost too quickly, things spiral downwards badly-- then BAM, she dies.

Any chance we could've gotten to know Aerith even deeper is gone. A possible future with her is gone. Aerith dies without a word, without any long, drawn-out speeches. She's just gone, and there's nothing but a deep chasm past the door you'd entered just moments ago during the Gold Saucer.

And that's why I loved it. It's made even more terrible by the fact that, not much further on, we find out the mystery of Aerith's past at Icicle Inn. It's almost like a cruel taunt, our last and only chance to learn about her.

I guess it might've been fun to have her around longer, but it's hard for me to imagine it because I felt the timing for her death was just perfect.

It says enough...

i'm a true blue :cloud: + :aeris: = :cleris:

but still...i think aerith's better to be far apart from Cloud, so we know how
Cloud goes miserable and distressed without Aerith-chan!!! I think what matters is Cloud loves Aerith and Aerith loves Cloud. I think if u read the novella, "The Maiden Over The Planet", positively sure that Square's for Clerith.

+Spoiler Alert+

But a cry came through to her.

It wasn't the sound of her cry. If it was then she would have felt the blood gushing up through her throat and the fury that forced its way out from the depths of her soul - It was the sound of Cloud's heart cracking. It was the cry of his heart that could never be healed of the grief he had towards Aerith's death, the blame towards himself and the hatred he had for Sephiroth.

She was surprised at the great sorrow he had for her. She was a little happy that he thought so much of her but she also felt the pain that was many times greater. There was nothing she could do about Cloud's suffering and the pain ached in her heart.

Now...wasnt that Clerithness? I'm sure Cloud and Aerith are meant together!

Has anyone ever told you you have a way with words, Lynn??? You worded that SO PERFECTLY ACCURATELY I'm almost compelled to go and click 'No' right away.

*but clicks Yes anyways just because* :hide:

You're right, the date scene was almost perfect in Aerith revealing her character, and then of course you have the dream sequence, and then she's gone. It would be lovely if we could have her for longer - perhaps she would help Cloud better in the Lifestream discovering himself - and perhaps there would have been more tender moments shared between the two - perhaps Cloud would be even more attached to her than he already was (if that's possible!) and perhaps the grief of her death would be even more striking because they know her for a longer time, even if it's something like just a week - I mean, Marlene knew her for a few hours at the most and already thinks she's just Wonderful, so imagine Cloud and co. travelling with her for months and months into Disc 2!!! Cloud would faint at her death scene if it was delayed!! :lmao:

The timing of her death was absolutely perfect, as how Lynn has said, but still I would've loved to see more little moments between her and Cloud, if she had lived just a little longer. For example, going snowboarding with Cloud at the Icicle Inn. That would've been priceless!

Yes, I agree. Her death was very well timed, but that doesn't change the fact that her death would've, IMO, had more of an impact if we got to see a little bit more of her character. I liked how her death ended Disc 1. The fact that it came right after the date was a great idea, but I think that she should've had maybe just an hour or two of more development before this point. Not in her past but in her character. That's why so many people are anti-Aerith. Most people didn't get to see enough of her true self and just brushed her off as a characterless maiden in distress created for the sole purpose of her death's shock value. If we got to understand her a little more before the Gold Saucer date, we would've fallen much more in love with her making her death an even more effective plot point.

We also would've been able to feel Cloud's grief more if we just had that extra hour of watching his understanding of love for her expand. Although the date did this pretty well, something small and non-optional like a little piece of an extra conversation would've made her death that much more surreal.

And, of course, I just wanted to see her and Cloud together longer. But as I sort of mentioned before, I wouldn't take back her death if I had the chance (even though I love her to pieces  ).

yeah i agree with you to i think that we should of seen a little bit more of her Charactor but if they make a remake of FF7 they might put her in it a little longer and explain her charactor a little more but her death wood still fit perfect but they wood just add more bits with more Aeris in it :cheer: :woot:

Searching for my light.
What they had on the first disk was enough and to watch his feelings for her carry on each disk, if she lived longer it wouldn't feel right. Wow I'm the only other person that voted no *don't hurt me too bad*

Suuuuure seeing them have more time would be cool. But we have every other game out there that has the two of them together in it.

Obviously, the Cleris in me is screaming YES! Who wouldn’t like to see more of her? However, it’s also true that her death was well timed from storytelling POV. While I’d love to see her reaction to Gast’s recording (releasing Weapons... re-visiting Midgar... hah, about anything, really  ), killing her later poses problems; the only real alternative would probably be at the Northern Crater, but that’d be a poor choice, IMO. Meteor appears, Cloud falls into Lifestream, Weapons are released... if her death happened among all this, it’d become a part of more general disaster, thus losing some of dramatic impact.

Of course as a gamer I’d like to have her around as long as possible, but again, killing her earlier serves a purpose. It’s not only the drama, but also the necessity to carry on without her, sense of loss that’s so nicely emphasized by the game (Gast’s recordings, getting the Highwind, stores still selling weapons for her... they never let you forget about her). If she died just before the final battle, the scene itself would still be tragic, but the game wouldn’t last long enough for this to sink in.
Then again, all this could be easily avoided by altering the storyline further, even up to the point where she wouldn’t die at all... could be good, could be bad, but surely we’d be looking at a very different game, so it’s really difficult to speculate.

Bottom line: If changing the time of her death is the only change we’re talking about, then NO. Otherwise, YES.
No vote.

Hmnn... guess the simplest questions get the most complicated answers.

I can see the point that people are making, although my first reaction was yes they should of had more time together but they did choose to have her death scene at the perfect time in the game.
