Final Fantasy VII: Second Conflict

----Synopsis----

It has been six months since the Jenova Conflict which almost demolished Midgar. Parts of the city are still livable, and Shinra is still trying to rebuild. Reeve has taken his role as head of Shinra, and things have gradually gotten better for the world. Moving away from Mako Energy, it seems like AVALANCHE has succeeded in ushering in a new era of peace…however, exactly half a year after the Jenova conflict, a message was delivered to the world over every channel of the radio system by Shinra.

Hojo, who managed to somehow survive due to his Jenova Cells, has taken over the devastated island city of Mideel, with his own breed of SOLDIERs, and constructed a Super Mako Reactor. His intentions are unknown...

In addition, the bodies of Jenova, Sephiroth, and yes, even Aeris…are unaccounted for.

The Lifestream is calling out once more...

----Rules----

Basics:

Note that this is not tied to Advent Children. Yes, I have seen the film, but treat this as an alternate possibility. Also know this:

AERIS RESSURECTION IS FAIR GAME, PEOPLE!

Oh sure, maybe not RIGHT away, but Aeris will be able to contact some people from the planet (like Cloud), and is revivable. Keep that in mind, but don’t send legions of characters to the Forgotten Capital at the start of the RP. This is just a heads up.

Fan characters are permissible, but keep in mind the reason for these forums. While this RP is not SOLELY Cloud x Aeris, it is a part of it. That means no female creations swooning seriously over Cloud, or males going gaga over Aeris. It may be hard, but please refrain from this. The other game’s characters need to be taken as well. Also, if you app Cloud or Aeris, be ready to be part of that specific couple. That’s the other side of the coin.

While Tifa isn’t the favorite character for this board, if anyone should play her, please don’t make her look like a jealous witch. Try to keep all characters…well…in character.

Could x Aeris isn’t the only pairing available in the RP. Tifa x Barret, Yuffie x Vincent, these are also acceptable, and up to the players. Just don’t do anything perverted, or make a couple just for shock value. Yuffie x Red XIII would turn heads, but likely wouldn’t be appropriate. Also, though they love each other, don’t do anything that requires a bedroom.

This RP is literate, and needs responsible RPers. If someone is excessively out of character, or is making little effort to be literate, then I reserve the right to give that character to someone else more acceptable. This isn’t to say grammar/spelling mistakes are intolerable, but I will not tolerate something like: “ZOMG CLOWD CHOPZ OF JOOR HED WIF HIZ SORD!” If deplorable abuse of the English language is how you prefer to RP, please leave this thread immediately. Also, if this kind of illiteracy is evident in an application, I reserve the right to turn down the application. Same if it seems grossly out of character. Otherwise, applications are first come, first serve.

----Materia and Weaponry----

Bladed Weaponry:

Blades are pretty self explanatory. These weapons are common and easily accessible, but don’t assume you can start off with a superior blade, unless you’re Cloud, Sephiroth, or someone who was involved in the previous war. Something like the Ragnarok is quite rare, and super weaponry for a character must have good reasoning in the application. Also, no starting bladed weapon may have any more than 2 Materia slots. Also, please RP according to the weight of the sword you select. A Katana is much lighter than a Buster Sword, and you should take into account the amount your character can life, their experience, and the amount of strength they currently possess. This includes injuries taken in combat. One must be strong to wield a bladed weapon.

Gloves:

Gloves can’t do as much damage in one hit as a blade. However, you can sometimes get in multiple hits, and use Materia in the knuckle to do a nasty bit of damage. Luckily, for these, weight is minimal, and they are excellent for martial artists. Again, no more than two materia slots for a starting glove.

Guns:

These come in vastly different sizes, weights, calibers, and rates of fire, so the best one for your character needs some thought. As these are ranged weapons, the person using them requires a steady hand, and depending on the type of weapon, the ability to compensate for recoil. Also, you must consider the strength of the character, and whether or not they will be firing from a stationary position, or if they will need to have a light weapon for mobility. Also keep in mind that ammunition is required for such weapons. These weapons need to be tailor made for the character sometimes, but can be particularly devastating if used correctly. No more than 2 Materia slots.

Staffs:

The staff is a pretty basic weapon, but still nasty if used well. Only 2 materia slots for starter staffs are permitted. Hybrids of staffs and blades, like lances, have been known to exist. However, the blades on such a weapon aren’t always as strong as a full fledged sword, though a hybridized weapon can be lighter.

Miscellaneous Weapons:

These are other types of weapons not detailed above. The use of these weapons must be reasonably described in the application, and can have no more than two Materia slots to start.

Armor:

Armor is only slightly regulated. Starting armor has to be mediocre, and has 2 materia slots. There are two forms of armor, which are upper and lower.

*Note: People who play FFVII characters who were in the initial conflict need not have these materia limits imposed. Each weapon and armor can hold 6 materia.

Materia:

You didn’t think I’d let you start out with Knights of the Round did you? A starter can only have 8 materia, as that is the maximum a starter can hold (2 weapons with 2 slots each, plus 2 armor with 2 slots each equals 8.). Of those, you can select only 1 low level summon to start, such as Choco-Mog or Shiva, and no more than 3 materia used for non- or indirect-combat. (All, Heal, Cure, HP Plus, Barrier, etc). You can find more materia in your quest, but must ask me first (see “Items”). In addition, you can’t have maxed them out. The combined level of your starter materia may not exceed 13, and your Summon is ALWAYS level 1 at the start. This can be increased through RP.

Leveling up Materia:

Through RP, and enough combat, your Materia CAN increase in power. I will likely be fairly liberal on this instance, but an increase in Materia level must still be asked for. Multiple materia can level up at one time. Still, please use fair judgment.

----Items----

All basic items such as Phoenix Downs and Potions are fairly easy to come by and RP, but you don’t have an infinite supply. These do not replace a warm meal and a good night’s sleep, so don’t assume they can sustain you in repeated combat. Use them when you’re in a pinch, not as your regular diet.

Some items, however, must be found or obtained through RP. While Hi-Potions and Phoenix Downs do not require any permission from me to find, all Materia, Weapons, and Armor IS required. Also, if it is a slotted item, I must know the number of slots. It should be a modest upgrade from what you currently possess.

----Additional Information----

All updates and character applications must be placed in the OOC/Update thread here, or you must Private Message me. The latter should be used if there is a matter you do not necessarily want your fellow RPers to know about. Approved Characters will be in the next post in this thread.

I do realize that reading rules and submitting bios are tedious, but I am well aware that the main focus is to have fun. This is unlikely to happen, but if a massive number of you feel like I start to be too controlling or constricting, please tell me so.

If you play someone from the initial conflict known to have collected materia and advanced weapons/armor, and leveled up their materia, such as a member of AVALANCHE, then the rules for maximum Materia amount, levels and types, do not apply, nor do limits on armor and weapons, as for strength or slot amount. Still, don't play them as invincible, merely more experienced and better equipped for combat.

All AVALANCHE limit breaks are at their maximum level. all others have limit breaks at level one to start, upgradable, with my permission, through RP/item discovery. Custom Characters must submit their own limit breaks. If making your own limit break, you must describe it.

Hum... have you looked at the other rps? You did almost the contrary! xD What you posted on the rp section was supposed to be here, cause that section is ONLY to rp. This one is for STORY INTRODUCTION, as well as characters, which you don't seem to have?

Besides that it seems like a good rp, shows that you are serious and that's important. I might join... IF you do things by the main rp rules, not just this concrete rp rules. ^_^

----Approved Characters----

Name: Blues Gast, a.k.a. Hojo Control Specimen 000

Quote: “Humans can be the highest OR lowest forms of life on the Planet. It comes down to choice.”

Hometown: Midgar, Shinra Building

Age: 7

Gender: Male

Race: Human/Cetra Hybrid

Primary Weapon: Staff, 2 slots

Secondary Weapon: Katana, 2 slots

Upper Armor: Sturdy Jacket, 2 slots

Lower Armor: Sturdy Pants, 2 slots

Starting Materia and levels:
Shiva Summon, Level 1
All, Level 1
Cure, Level 2
Life, Level 1
Bolt, Level 3
Fire, Level 2
Ice, Level 2
Bio, Level 1

Appearance: This brown-haired boy normally wears a white shirt, emerald green jacket, and a pair of dark blue pants, with combat boots. Often wears a pair of mirrored sunglasses to hide his eyes, and sometimes can be seen in a dark green cloak. Though only seven years old (at the time of FFVII), he rarely smiles, sometimes seeming more detached than he truly is. His aqua-colored eyes, just like those of his mother, are the obvious indicators of his emotional state and ancestry, hence the glasses that hide them. His skin is also quite fair.

Bio: When Hojo began to showcase his monstrosities, Shinra was impressed, but they were not certain just how much progress this represented. Sephiroth, the Super SOLDIER, was originally thought to be a Proto-Ancient, but when this was shown to be false, Hojo was given the task of making a control specimen for his experiments to be tested against...an Ancient without any form of Jenova or Mako enhancement. Luckily, Hojo had managed to obtain a strand of Aeris' hair during her escape from Shinra, but the government declined to outright clone her, as such technology was still being developed, and not yet completed. Hojo had to find an alternate plan, so he started sifting through the stack of SOLDIER applicants on his desk. He found a fourteen year old boy named Cloud Strife, who had natural ability, but not the skills for SOLDIER. He however, was the perfect donor.
Soon, HCS-000 "Blues", a quarter Ancient, was created successfully from Aeris' and Cloud's DNA. Unfortunately, though he showed superior mental aptitude, his skills seemed sub-par, since he was only 25% Cetra. He was unable to accurately communicate with the Planet, his senses giving him unintelligible garbage data whenever he tried. The project was scrapped, and Blues vanished when he was four years of age, presumed dead.
Since then this boy has roamed the world, occasionally checking on his mother and father from a distance, never really coming close enough to make himself seen. He has traveled the world learning to fight, trying to enhance his Ancient powers, so that perhaps, just perhaps, he could communicate with the Planet one day. Little is he aware that it isn't his genome, but his uncalm mind and doubt-filled heart that is clouding his abilities. However, in spite of his wish to hear the Planet one day, the efforts have only been one way. Blues maintains a magic mental barrier, which he hopes is enough to block out the Planet's ability to read his mind. However, it is no match for any being with superior mental abilities (such as Aeris). His reasoning for this is that Jenova is possibly alive or in existence somewhere within the Lifestream, and communication with the Planet would compromise his identity, should fate choose him to fight. Of course, the true reasoning is fear of the Planet itself, as well as his mother, and their judgment of him, since he considers himself unfit to be a Cetra.

Personality: Though detached and cold on the outside, this child is crying internally, wishing for a chance at a life with a family. Since being created by Hojo, Blues has known only combat and evasion. He has inherited his mother's wish for a better world, as well as his grandfather's mind, but lacks the complete understanding of the Planet around him, still half-way stuck between the mentality of a skilled warrior and an abandoned and suffering child. As such, he feels incomplete, and often distracts himself through vicious combat.

Limit Break and Level: Righteous Spirit, Level 1 Limit Break. Heals 20% HP, and has a 10% chance of casting Haste on Blues.

Thanks. I did do it backwards. :P I must have had both open at once or something...

Also, the reason I only have the one character is because all the others are available. And I mean all that are in FFVII and even made ups. If someone submits a character bio, then I'll add it here.

As for the concrete rules, I don't want people going crazy-go-nuts on the materia, and I want the FFVII stars to be the strongest, at least to start. Alao, it means those positions may be filled first. :D

If you think a rule is too harsh though, tell me specificly what's wrong and what can be done to make it more fair. I might be liberal on this, but Materia for original characters has to be regulated to some degree.

Main RP rules in the sticky still apply, make no mistake. These are just additional rules or things I felt like elaborating on.

Plus, depending on how many Cloud/Aeris submissions I do get, I might hold tryouts or something. It might not be fair to make them specificly first come first serve, given the nature of these forums.

I just love your rules. And I didn't see your chara, it only said --Approved Characters-- but it didn't say it was your chara xD It'd be better if you added --My chara-- and then --SweetJanie's--, for example, when I post mine. Cause I WILL post! ^_^

I think I can rp fairly well, but my english is a bit basic, so don't expect long awesome literature like our fair MT does xD

I rped as Aeris before in some other rp, so I guess I'll give the chance for someone else to play as her. I don't think I was that bad, even though I couldn't understand much of Cloud's player's posts... ^^' *forgot her name D: please kill me*

Your character remonds me of Naseroth... Anyway, after drawing and making up a story I'll join! =D

*whistles* Impressive set-up, MM! And finally, an RP I can join from the beginning. I'm horrible when it comes to managing RPs myself, so I'm very glad there's a FFVII-based one to join.

I wholly agree. Perhaps have applicants write a short paragraph from Cloud or Aerith's POV? I might send in an application for either one of them-- I've played both characters before, but the RPs they were involved in subsequently died half-way. Or maybe I'll choose another canon character. The fields are ripe for picking. ^^

The rules are great, very clear.

I'm a bit iffy on the whole materia business (not the limitations on them, just the slots and levels and other "gameplay" statistics) so I'll ask now-- should battles occur in the RP, do we go by a HP/numerical damage system? For example, is the RP styled so that if Cloud cast Ice3 on a monster, it'll do 300 damage points?

Also, do certain canon characters constitute as NPCs? Characters such as Marlene, Elmyra, Priscilla... Characters unlikely to be picked for roleplay. Which characters are safe to move around a bit, and which should be strictly off-limits?

And lastly, I am SO sorry I accidentally deleted your RP thread. ^^;; Please, er... make another one? And again, sorry? *grovels*

There's no problem. I moderate some forums, and accidentally edited someone's post before. XD

I think I will add a sample RP requirement to the application, possibly 1-2 paragraphs.

Also, it has been requested that there be an RP exam or something for helping to decide the character they want to play, so here's something...answer these few questions, and tally how many answers correspond to what letter. Then see who you match up with! Don't feel bound by this. If you REALLY feel you'd do better as a different character, then by all means try it.

1. How do you see the world?

A. It is full of knowledge to be learned...
B. It is full of promise and good that just needs nurtured!
C. It is full of sorrow and unfairness, but it's worth fighting for.
D. It's pretty bad, but I'm gonna make it better for my kid!
E. It's a world that helps those who help themselves!
F. Things aren't fair, but sometimes you have to suck it up!
G. The world can KISS MY ***!
H. This world is a punishment for those of us who can not atone for our sins.
I. It is an insolent and cruel Planet, which begs for destruction.

2. What is the most important thing to you?

A. Understanding
B. Everything is important!
C. ...Forgiveness, and those I hold dear.
D. My kid!
E. Wealth and Power!
F. ...my loved ones...
G. My own dreams!
H. Atonement...
I. Vengance.

3. How would you describe your life, in a brief statement?

A. Lonely.
B. Calm..
C. A partial lie.
D. Tough!
E. Fast and fun!
F. A waiting game...
G. Boring!
H. Pointless.
I. Never truly had one.

4. What are your goals?

A. To be as wise as Grandpa and as brave as Father.
B. To see this world and all its people safe and happy...especially Cloud!
C. To find my own identity...to know who I am.
D. To raise my girl in a safe world!
E. To get as much Materia as I can, to become strong and wealthy!
F. To help those too weak to defend themselves...like children...
G. To go into Space...
H. To find peace.
I. To lay waste to all life that I see before me.

Tally your scores...

A. Red XIII
B. Aeris
C. Cloud
D. Barret
E. Yuffie
F. Tifa
G. Cid
H. Vincent
I. Sephiroth

We are number one. All others are number two, or lower.
Heh, I might join as well. Well, the test says Aerith for me too, but I think I could try someone else, maybe Cloud, someone else, or I'll make up a character. I haven't tried playing as a character I haven't made before, so a part of me is afraid my interpretation of a character would be different from what others might think... I dunno yet, but I do want to let you know I'm interested, and I'm impressed with the detail you have. I can't remember any questions I had at the moment, but if i do, I'll bring it up! ^_^ Sounds like this could be a lot of fun.

Well, that's what the sample RP in the character submission is for, testing if necessary, but if you want further testing, a test RP could be arranged in PMs or instant messenger perhaps. Please Private Message me with any test RP or contact information for starting test RP.

Also, you're fully permitted to make a character, but it is hard work to come up with a decent one. Still, it can be rewarding.

One thing I try to stay away from is fan characters that are too strong. That's one of the reasons Materia limits are in place for fan characters, unless there is specific reasoning for me to approve special cases.

Characters that are only there for combat and to become the strongest succeed in combat, but aren't too interesting otherwise. Keep in mind that characters with depth are best. However, if you want to start with a "blank" character, that'd be fine, as long as their views and beliefs are developed into a full set during RP. ^^

Also, please refrain from someone darker than Sephiroth, more melancholy than Vincent, sweeter than Aeris (if that were possible), etc, Unless there is specific reasoning. Make them have a custom personality, not just copy all the attributes from existing ones. (Though a few attributes brought over are okay at times.)

Same.

I really haven't rped with character I haven't created, and I'm not quite used to it, also I know I'd make a good Tifa or Yuffie, but people have different opinions of their characters, and I wouldn't wanna get a long lecture about how someone 'thinks how that character should act like'. So I might just end up creating my own...

I really really don't wanna sound rude, I just can't take critism...

We really aren't n00bs, okay? We know how to make balanced, relatable characters, we really don't need you to tell us how.

Well, I am thinking about staying away from a concrete HP/MP system. I'll tell you why.

Firstly, This is after FFVII, and the original characters could be anywhere from the lower 60s to 99 or so. There's a lot of flexibility there, plus there are support Materia which can change such HP and MP.

Also, the OCs would be anywhere from level 1-20, maybe 30 if they have previous combat experience experience. One hit from a stronger character, using the more canon system, could take out an OC (Original Character).

While I intend that the canon characters like Cloud will be stronger than OCs, I don't think one hit should take out combat OCs. Plus, while there are limits on Materia, armors, and Materia levels, I think the rest can be reasonably RPed on the fly. (That means don't only use high level spells and summons. Max attack level Materia spamming is a no-no. Do it and I may revoke your ability to fight by saying you've used up your MP for a few days or longer. ^^)I doubt you guys want to have a peice of paper open to calculate damage every RP.

Just keep in mind the levels of the Materia, which determine what spells you cast, Limit Break and LB Level, and about how much damage your character would realisticly take given their armor. I don't mean give an amount, but RPing injuries and fatique. Also, if the battle goes on and on and on, feel free to use your limit break after taking decent hits.

Example (May not have nothing to do with upcoming RP):

Cloud stood on the edge of the Mako Lake at Mideel, eyeing the green glow upon the buildings...the city had changed greatly, from a devastated tourist trap to a full-blown military base and scientific laboratory. The soft green glow was the only distraction from the monochromatic nature of the complex, shades of grey the only other thing his sharp eye could percieve. However, his ears were just as sharp, and when he heard a rustle behind and to the right on him, he turned, Ragnarok in hand, to block a savage blow. He was knocked back about three meters, but stayed standing, glaring at the fiend that just struck him.
"...One of Hojo's experiments...a particularly nasty one...You picked the wrong day to climb from your cage. Sephiroth is somewhere in this complex, Jenova's body is nearing restoration, and I have no time to waste being easy on you."

The fiend, a large fanged beast, charged at him, trying to slice Cloud's flesh with his claws, but Cloud swiftly stepped aside, only taking a mild hit in the shoulder. He winced slightly in pain, but it did not break his concentration. He was glad he'd managed to obtain some decent armor on his travels

"...Fire 2!"

Flame erupted around the monster, which let out an inhuman roar as its fur burned brightly in the blaze. Unfortunately, it would take more than a mere campfire to scare away this beast. It lunged for Cloud again, bearing its teeth.

"...Big mistake."

Cloud took a decent hit in the chest from the beast, but it was worth it...He'd managed to get the Ragnarok between the fangs of the fiend and twisted. The broken fangs of the experimental monster lay on either side of the combatants, the monster's mouth bleeding notably. Still, the Ragnarok was a decent blade, and unlike the fangs, its blade still held. Cloud stumbled back slightly, the pain in his chest wound notable.

"Leave now, before I break more than your teeth..and tell your creator that Sephiroth failed once, and will again."

The feind shuddered and left, dizzily walking the halls, to find and warn his master, as Cloud ventured further into the complex, to face the one who was at the core of all of this...Jenova's head.

End Example.

I never said any numbers, but as both lost HP, their actions indicated injury, and Cloud's attacks switched between magic and physical combat. If this had continued, they'd have RPed being more injured, and more exausted, due to constant MP use. Also, limit break could have been involved. Here's the effects of combat that aren't stated that you should try to use.

HP loss in battle = Injury, sluggish movement. physical exhaustion, and collapse. Indicated by enemy attacks and your equipped armor.

MP loss in battle = Loss of concentration and mental/spiritual exhaustion. indicated by the level and frequency of attacks you use. Excessive Level 3 or powerful Summoning can cause this.

Limit Break = Tends to happen in situations of moderate to heavy HP loss, feeding from the desperation, fury, or sheer stubbornness of the user.

I hope that helps.

No problems there. ^^ It's all the better if that's the case. However, I couldn't assume everyone on these forums knew about how to RP. I try to avoid expecting that incase newbies (not n00bs, I see a difference) join.

Also, everyone has a slightly different idea on hoe a canon character should act. Criticism is often part of playing a canon character. When you take that character, you're accepting the responsibility of roleplaying as them relatively accurately, though adding your own spin on their character is acceptible. Another responsibility is RPing with all the Original Charaters that ICly look up to or hate that character. :D

Just remember, Original Characters that you make up won't be as powerful as the "star" characters of FFVII. They'll have to grow in power gradually.

I would like to join this RP with the character that I've made from my fan fiction. However, I would like for you to take a look at his profile in the fan fiction RP into that I made to see if you find anything about him that wouldn't be suitable for this RP. Also, if you want any further info about him, you can PM me and I can tell you in-depth info about him, such as the abilities he has and other certain things.

Yeah...I know. Um, isn't that what I just said but extended? ...

My main point is that me playing Tifa and being dah CRAZY CLOTAY I am, might bring trouble. That's why I know that if I take a character, I'm accepting the responsibility, which is why I didn't take a character.

Eh, I might not even join...rps based on video games and such aren't my kinda thing...

Just remember, Original Characters that you make up won't be as powerful as the "star" characters of FFVII.  They'll have to grow in power gradually.

Didn't I just say I knew?

...

Maybe that wasn't even directed towards me, though, so I won't say anything else....
