Just because Tifa uses it to refer to Cloud, doesn't mean he uses it to refer to her.

I'm not sure what Cloud said to Aerith but I don't think he used 'kimi' at all. I know the kanji for 'kimi' and it never appeared in the Cleris clip.

EDIT: D'oh. Tifa does use 'anata' when she talks to Cloud. <_<

Hmmm... well, I've definitely been told that tifa uses "kimi" in AC when she talks to Cloud. I haven't heard what Aerith uses in AC when she talks to Cloud.

If both Tifa and Aerith use "anata" in KH2, that's okay. It just means they both feel the same way towards Cloud, and we already knew that both girls care for him... so that's no biggie! :P

It's *Cloud's* feelings that have been under debate for years, so I wonder what Cloud uses when he talks to the girls in KH2 as well as in AC?

Ah, that's what I thought. For some reason I couldn't get the kanji they have there (and I still can't get it despite trying to use the Jwpe kanji dictionary >_<).

And ah...AC. I never payed attention and I'm not up to go through it right about now to see what they use....

i find it hilarious that Tifa only says mainly three lines to Cloud: "Wait!" or "Cloud, stop!" or "I shall give you my light instead".

on the other hand, Cloud and Aerith have a whole conversation.

I just went through all of AC. Cloud...never uses anything O__o; I skimmed through most of the movie but stopped at the parts he talks to Tifa. He never uses anything with her, no 'kimi' or 'anata' or 'omae'. Nothing. :cloud: Not that I could catch anyway.

EDIT: Well, not to say that Cloud doesn't use anything at ALL. To be fair he does use "Anta" when talking to Sephiroth during their battle. *shrugs*

"Anata" could be used for wives calling their husband, but mostly, it is a normal use for 'you'.

so what I'm getting to... Anata is just like saying someone's name in japanese without a prefix? which indicates closeness, and yet it's disrespectful when used by people who are not entirely THAT close...?

is that right? >_<

Now that I think aboutit, who cares!!
It's all going to be translated to "you", whatever it is.

Anata is mostly considered rude, its more polite to say someone's name. Most of the time, a form of 'you' isn't use, rather their name is. I wouldn't say close people use anata, but its more like a nickname wives use for their husband. Husband have something too, but I forgot what it was.

I was actually just gonna point that out Onigirl. Anata is a polite form of you. Personally I think that word is being looked into too much, and it doesn't have any romantic connotations whatsoever for either Tifa or Aeris.
