I noticed that too. ^_^ At the risk of looking WAY too deeply into things  it makes me wonder if it indicates who she is closer to.

On one hand, I've heard you have to be very familiar with someone to ever refer to them by their given names in Japanese culture. I assume this would apply to children as well. But sometimes children call an older girl that they are close to "oneechan" as well.

...

Yeah, this is probably looking too deeply into nothing. Oh well. I would like to know if what I've said is correct, though. *adds to research-after-exams list*

Did she? I thought it was just another random girl. But, they are probably going by how she called Aerith in the game. And yeah, it does kinda show that she is closer to Tifa actually. Marlene calling Aerith 'onee-san' would be like respecting the role of the younger and older. If a small child sees a stranger on the streets older (but not too older), she'd call her onee-san to get her attention.

Yeah, Marlene calls Aerith "oneechan" once at the beginning of the Sephiroth battle. The Geostigma souls are winding down over Edge, there's a drop of water, Marlene immediately looks up and says, "Oneechan?" and we see Aerith in her prayer stance.

One of my favourite moments in the movie.

The other time she's referred to as "oneechan" is by the Girl-With-Moogle in the church.

Hmm, but if Marlene does call her 'Aerith' in the game, then it could be a way to avoid saying her name, since they seem to not want her name said for some reason!! Like not wanting to show her face...

Did Marlene know Aerith well enough? I mean I know she's a Clerith, but at the beginning, she said "the destruction took away the one I loved", and the scene showed Aerith's funeral. I thought that was really sweet of her.

Tifa's a mother figure for Marlene. She said so herself in CoT. Aerith was more like a cool aunt/older sister figure.

"I'll cut them off" O.O
Umm... I don't think it really means anything... I think calling Tifa by her name sounds better than calling her Onee-San... And I don't think calling Aeris by her name sounds right either...

Hmm... Hey... just realised...

Nobody ever said Aeris' name during the entire movie... o.O; ...I guess if any of the FFVII cast were to say her name everyone would break down and cry unconrollably... Yes, even Vincent, he has a soft sopt for Aeris as well... =P

Anyway... Uhh... I dunno... I'll just say some random stuff now?

Marlene called Aeris flower lady(I think) at the end of the game... Maybe it was Onee-san in the japanese version... So it would be like... A deja vu thing when you see AC...

And uhh...

Marlene was a semi-matchmaker for Cloud and Aeris... She told him Aeris was asking a bunch of questions about him and even said, "Its okay, I won't tell Tifa." Ooooooohh...

Uhh... Marlene is actually "Marin" in the japanese FFVII... And uhh... Tseng was "Zeng"(sp?) and yeah... there were a few more, but I can't remember... ^_~

I think Marlene looked up to Aeris a lot, considering she went back for her at the Seventh Heaven when the piller was about to collapse. That must've took quite a lot of convincing to do to a little girl all alone what with some strange woman bursting in to try and get her to follow. I think Marlene trusts Aeris a lot and all children (as Buganhagen mentioned) have a stronger spiritual connection to the Planet more than adults do. Aeris being the only remaining Cetra and all has a stong connection to the children because of this...

She's "Mother Earth" so to say, the Planet's only voice.

Calling someone your 'onee-san' definitely connotates(?) some form of closeness... Which would obviously, lead people to believe that Marlene was closer with Aeris than with Tifa <--- WhatI believe anyways...

ARGH! I live with a rabid CloTi fan!
