Aerith all the way. ![]() Well, mostly because I think Aerith looks/sounds waaaay prettier than Aeris. Aeris sounds pretty, but then when you get to the 'IS' at the end, its like she crash-landed her name. I like Aerith cause it sounds pretty all the way through. Also, Aerith is more of an "air" and "earth" thing. Pronounced "air-ith" of course. I, being a weird pronunciation/spelling freak, will refuse to use but the correct translation/pronunciation of anything. I am a freak. And, if I did say Aeris, which I DON'T it would be "air-IS"....Which doesn't sound very pretty. Yup! I stick to correctness...Which is why "Aerith" is the way I go. Yeah...I'm rambling now.

Her name is always a pain. Earisu to Aeris to Aerith. Even some people say Earith! And I've heard a few reasons for each. I'll just give one for both. For Aeris - Aeris is latin for air or cloud. I actually know this cause my brother is a very advanced latin student. As for Aerith - Aerith is an anagram of "earth" with i added to it to show her connection to the planet. Hm...kinda reminds of Orgination 13's anagram + x thing. If you really want the true answer then fly me out to Japan and I shall hunt down Tetsuya Nomura and force him to tell me! lol |

I dunno. I've always called her Aeris. In my game of FF7 her name was Aeris. But I suppose it depends on how you wanna say it. Aerith kinda sounds (to me, now that i'm used to it being Aeris) like saying it with a lisp... |

Aerith is her real official name, Aeris is a mistranlation from Sony for the English version of the game years ago ( Note that Square fixed this when showing parts of FFVII in FFVII Reminence on the Advent Children disc) So I guess it depends on whether you want to use her real name or the mistranlation just because you like it

And those are ancient. Most likely the new manual and strategy guide for the remake if they did one would show Aerith. |

I really doubt Square would've allowed such a large translation mistake. Probably they decided they liked Aerith better or something. *shrugs* I prefer Aeris, doesn't sound like I have a lisp

Maybe intentional, maybe not? Elmina to Elmyra, Sierra to Shera... maybe they need better proof-readers (god forbid they turned Sephiroth into Sephiros). XD |
