Exactly.

I prefer both actually. So I don't mind if I spell it either way. But I met her when she came to me by Aeris.

And it's still stuck with me.

I might name my child that name. ;)

How funny! I'm actually planning to name my first daughter Aeris! *Sure hope I marry a geek*

Have ta agree, Aerith/Aeris IS a pretty name! Who knows, in the future, there'll be a lotta Aeriths/Aerises! I wonder if Clotis start naming their child 'Tifa'...

I actually used Aeris up until Kingdom Hearts came out and her name was spelled Aerith. I decided to change to using Aerith rather than Aeris as it's the more correct version, plus I think it's prettier.

And a bit of off topic but 'Aeris' in Latin also refers to sky, so maybe that's why they named Cloud, Cloud?   :cleris:

It actually has a relation to the word "Air" and Cloud...well....
What moves Clouds?

Not Tifa that's 4 sure XD

Air!!! Aerith is what keeps Cloud going :huggle:

at least that's what I think

Quoted again, YATTA!! :woot:

Back on topic, I believe Aerith's name is related to air, too, since that's what move clouds. :P

In Latin, 'aeris' means "of the sky", which is somewhat befitting Aeris, who is a Cetra and was born from the Planet; it is also related to her love of flying and her longing to travel on the airship Highwind. Her name 'Earisu' or 'Aerith/Earith' is also similar to Earth, which again refers back to her heritage.

They're both valid translations of 'Earisu', Aeris' name literally romanised from katakana. Different translators translated her name different ways, that's all. It appears both ways on different official merchandise, etc.

It's personal preference more than correctness, as with so much in Final Fantasy VII. 'Aeris' is truer to the Japanese pronunciation, though. That wouldn't apply to 'Sephiroth', since 'Sephiroth' is actually a foreign word from Kabbalah, but with 'Aeris', since it's an original name, I prefer to stay closer to the original pronunciation (not to mention the one I know her by from Final Fantasy VII).

Funny thing, they made the mistake in FF Tactics when they refer to Sephiroth, they replace the th with an S.

That doesn't surprise me; it's because in Japanese, the closest approximation to 'th' is 'su', which is pronounced more like 's'.

"Pya Kurai Akaidra"

This is my idea, but if they use the kanji for 'cloud', people'll be calling him Kumo (means cloud).

Mmm. I'm not so sure, since kanji represent concepts, rather than words, which is why the same kanji can mean different words. They usually circumvent that problem where there is ambiguety by putting kana over or beside the kanji to denote pronunciation. They probably just decided not to deal with that at all.
