Hm... My parents are divorced, so I have no idea. But, although this is strange, my GRANDPARENTS call each other "Grandma" and "Grandpa"! And Rikku, my family has pizza about 3 times a week, too!! I kid you not, Pizza Hut loves us. EDTIT- @maramuse- I know that Doujinshi!! That's what she said???? Do you have a full trans. of it?

My parents used to call each other Mom and Dad, but then us kids started growing up and now they call each other by name, but when one of them is talking to us about the other they refer to them as Mom or Dad(like in Rikku's example) I don't consider it to be a cultural thing really, just a personal thing |

As a food-related note, my dad goes to Dunkin Donuts almost every morning during weekends, I swear, the dude at the counter would probably know what my dad wants if he said "gimme the usual". XD |

I used to work in a resturant and there were so many people that could just walk in and say "Gimme the usual!". In fact, I had their tickets written up and their food started before they could even get in the door |

While I was watching the movie, some thoughts crossed my mind: 1. It will be sad that there will be no victory theme. It sounded after Tifa "supposedly" beat Loz. I was sreaming: "THAT WAS SOO COOOL, SOOO COOL...!!!" till my neighbors told me to shut up. 2. There won't be limit breaks. Do I have to explain my reaction when they were shown??? 3. Cloud's been thinking about Aerith, Zack probably not of Jesse, Wedge and Biggs, beacuse he never got to know them well, but: What about his mother? Has he forgotten her? Wasn't she important to him? Then, when he's unconcious due to Yazoo's shot, he said "Mother". I think the fact he said that, showed he hadn't forgotten about her. He felt that someone was taking care of him, and he remembered his mother, yet Aerith found this hiliarous. |

Aerith found it hilarious? XD shes so cute ![]() I still think it PROVES clorith rather than proves cloti, because his mother told him to find someone who can take care of him whos older, she was worried about him incase a) anything happens to her or b ) she never sees him again/for a long time, so unconsiously calling Aerith mother is actually stating that Aerith has been caring for him and looking after him all this time and is the girl he's suppose to be with. I love tifa but I don't think his mother approves of her ; ) lol EDIT: i know im repeating myself, ^_^;; sorry x_x |

My Dad who is Mexican American sometimes calls my Mom "Mama" which is Greek for Mom. My Mom is Greek by the way and I remember my Mom sometimes refers to my Dad as OUR Dad for example she'll say in Greek "pou einai o babas mas?" Which means "where is our father?"... and stuff like that...I guess it's a cute little thing couples do in any culture it seems. The CloTi's take the Mom comment WAY too literally. Edit:
It reminded me of "Mother" also! Man, I love that doujinshi but I always wondered what they were saying to eacthother...anyway why did she purposely do that? :curious: |

Hmm, I just read on the AC website with the frequently asked questions about "Advent Children" that the mother comment that Cloud says at the end refers to him wanting to feel the comfort of the hand that touched his forehead i.e. Aeris. So, I guess the motherly type of relationship that the Cloti fans are raving about in Cleris' relationship is wrong. Here's the translation (a bit difficult to understand because it was directly translated) that was posted on the AC forum place with the faq: Q.What is "Mother" after all? A."Mother" that Kadaj are meaning is Jenova It seems "Mother?" that Cloud mutters at the end is to feel the warmth of the hand applied to the forehead. So, I'm guessing that mother means comfort and love thus further implying that Cloud only feels comfort and safety with Aeris. as the hand on his head of relieved him of his pain.Anyways, it really pissed me off when the Clotis said that Cloud views Aeris as a mother figure. I swear, sometimes the Clotis can really make my blood boil with their inane nonsense. |

Note on the mother thing: Married couples with children usually refer to their spouse as "Mom" or "Dad" because they don't want their child getting to comfortable calling them by their first names. It becomes habit. My parents do this as well. In fact, most parents around the world do. ^^ I loved it when Cloud called Aerith "mother". Their relationship, to me, has always been one that is hard to define. Although I do like Cloud and Aerith as a couple, in the game and in AC their relationship is not quite like anything else. Lovers, friends, mother-son, I see Cloud and Aerith as having a weird mix of them. It's that that makes me love seeing their interaction. |

Same here my parents call eachother "mom" and "dad" but it's like rare. It's weird but they say it's a way of affection. A someone taking care of you, watching over you, and giving you warmth just like a "Mother" would do. It's very brainy deadish subject cuz you can't really explain it. But since Aeris is not the real Mother of Cloud. It's more like the affect of warmth that Aeris gives to Cloud like "Mother". I don't know about Clotis but that bit of hint is good for Cleris. And I'm thinking that's the kind of feeling Cloud gets from Aeris whenever her presence is there. |

Well, I don't have a full translation for I can remember a little of that doujinshi. Sorry. But I'll try to remember the CloAe part... First, Cloud wakes up in the flower and sees Aerith. She tells him ,"Wait. I'm done fixing the flowers soon." She turns to him and smiles. Cloud meanwhile looks like his usual angsty self .Then they both sit on a bench and talk about flowers. Aerith asks him,"Do you know this flower” while pointing at the flower in front of them. Then she tells him,"Well, it's 'Sukoru Biodesu. (I'm not sure how to change Sukoru Biodesu into its English form because I , for one, am so ignorant about flowers). It has a beautiful sky blue color, don't you agree? It does not bloom occasionally .You...." Cloud answers,"Ha?" "Your name..." "...I don't know. Did I also have a name? Somehow...But it's better (this way)." "You don't know your name?" Then Aerith smiles and say, "I know you. You're Cloud-kun right?" Looking away, Cloud responds "Is that so?" and I personally think he looks disappointed with the –kun attached to his name. Aerith out of the blue asks him, "Ne, what flower is this?" Cloud tries to answer Sukoru Biodesu but he only got Sukoru correct. Aerith holds his chin and reiterates “SU.KO.RU. BI.O.DE.SU. Well, you are?” I love Cloud expression’s while she rubs his chin repeatedly . A laughing Aerith runs off screaming “Kyaa!” while a seemingly angry Cloud shouts and tells her to stop making a fool out of him.Aerith stops , turns around says to him, “So, now you’re Cloud-kun.” Aerith looks so sad in the following frame and it’s in there that I assumed that she was merely pretending not to know him. Afterwards, she said” I don’t have much time “ She says something else but I couldn't figure out the letter. Cloud then shouts,”W-wait!!” He runs and grabs Aerith’s arm and asks, “You? Do you know who I am? I beg you. Tell me. I am…” “I don’t know you. I know nothing but your name.” And you know what happened next. I give Cloud 100 points for thinking of that way to make her remember. After the kiss part, Aerith says,"Cloud, you'll go back to where everyone is right? And everything will end...again." |

I do know of married couples who call each other "Mother" and "Father". My highschool boyfriend's folks did that. They were very old fashioned in lots of ways, and I seem to remember seeing lots of couples in old movies do the same. Look at Nick and Nora Charles in the Thin Man movies. |

I think the main point of the thread was Anti's first post, with the article about the belief in Japan of "mother-child" relationships being a basis for future relationships with other people. Then it was shared that married couples in Japan call each other "mother" and "father" despite not being parents of one another. Then everyone else started sharing similar or different experiences and the thread came to that. Although I don't believe this sort of comparison really works either, since Cloud and Aerith aren't married. It does help to know that couples do call each other "mother" and "father" even though they're not related, though. |

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I just have a few things I want to say on this subject. Why are the CxT fans still making such a big deal out of this? I read a post from one of them saying the love triangle ended with Cloud calling Aerith 'mother'. Uh, what? He called her 'mother', yes, but how in the world does that mean that Cloud sees Aerith as a mother figure and doesn't love her? Not everything has a deeper meaning to it. Couldn't it just be possible that Cloud felt a warm, comforting presence and just assumed it was his mother's hand, not Aerith's? Or that it was put there to set up the little banter between Zack and Aerith? I know that some of them bring up the fact that Cloud's eyes were originally supposed to be open in that scene, but guess what? In the final product, they were closed. Why? Probably because the director wanted it that way. Cloud, Barret and Aerith were originally supposed to be the only playable characters in FFVII. Does that make any difference to the finished version of FFVII? No. Does that make any difference to the love triangle? No. So why should something that was changed for the final version of AC make any difference to the love triangle? Using that argument, I could easily say that FFVII is CxA simply because Tifa wasn't even thought of at first. And also, how come Cloud calling Aerith 'mother' when he's floating in the Lifestream half conscious after being shot and not even aware of what's happening proves he doesn't love her and sees her as a mother figure, but Tifa having motherly feelings towards Cloud while fully conscious and completely aware of what's going on and who's around her, and enjoying those feelings in CoT is just zomg cyuuute? Okay. I'm done with the rantage.
