Me too. I thought married couples naturally call each other "Mom/Mommy" or "Dad/Daddy." Imagine my surprise when I heard that in the West they call each other by their first names  .
OOooh... I thik I know what you mean by that one. Where I'm from, any hot, sexy guy is termed "papalicious" or "papable" .

I shall just say my ancestors are related to the Chinese. I may have confused you a bit, so let me amend that, eh? My parents will go out to public places where people from my culture are gathered...um...big New Years celebrations, for example, and they'll still call each other "mother/mommy" and "father/papa" (in our own language, of course). I was just pointing out that it's a "thing" people do naturally within my culture. I think that married American couples usually call one another by names, especially out in public places. At least, that's what I've seen. As Anti-R has stated, we should really have some input from Americans. :) |

I'd add something, but I don't have much experience on the topic, my parents aren't really together anymore. My sister and brother-in-law do that though, they're part Chinese. I don't think it's so much a cultural thing, it's that it's seen as "cute."

I'm chinese, and my parents do call each other "Mommy" or "Daddy" sometimes. It's very affectionate.

My parents address each other by first name. I've NEVER heard them call each other 'Mother' or 'Father', nor do I know if any of my friend's parents do that. My relatives and their spouses address each other by their names as well, so I suppose it's probably an Asian/Eastern type of custom. I live in Southern California and around here, you don't hear married couples calling each other 'Mother' or 'Father'; I think they'd earn quite a few stares if they did.

I see, Difinity. I'm from the northern part of the US...and yes, I'm not very accustomed to hearing married couples up here call one another 'mother' or 'father' either. Perhaps they may do it within their own household, but in public places? I haven't seen that. |

My parents have called each other "mummy" and "daddy" until now... and they're in their fifties. XD On our part, I think it's mostly just because it stuck from teaching my brother and me to call them that from young. Thanks for the link, Anti-R. That was a very interesting look into the "mother-child" bonding.

I haven't posted here for awhile, been too busy with work and what-not but I really wanted to comment on this. alot of CloTis feel the LTD has been solved with Cloud calling Aerith mother, now does Cloud actually see Aerith clearly and call her Mother? Are his eyes closed when he says it or are they open, if they are open I would say his vision is blurred, and seeing how he thinks he may be dead, maybe he feels he's with his mother and she's looking after him like she used too. I'd also like to say that him calling Aerith mother is like she's caring for him like a mother, didn't Cloud's mother tell him to find an OLDER girl who can LOOK AFTER HIM, she wanted Cloud to find someone like her I believe, someone who could "Mother" him and look after him, this shouts Aerith to me. |

Oh, crap I forgot another awesome example... from my favorite RPG, nonetheless... >.< In Xenogears, Fei, the main character, made contact with the Zohar (kind of like the "God" in that world, a being from another dimension), for the Zohar to exist in the first place, he used Fei (in his first incarnation, longing for a mother) to create Elhaym (his love interest), and her maternal personality to always look after him in every reincarnation they were in. From the game: FEI Decided it was me? A special feature?? HAR Yes. I was given a special attribute of a human by you, the Contact, when you observed me... I was given... a mother's will. FEI A mother's will? HAR I'm sure you remember. After my descent, you had contact with the modifier engine, 'Zohar'. FMV 27: Contact [A young Fei look-alike stands in a huge chamber. Scene flash to a shot of the Zohar Modifier opening up and releasing energy. Scene flash to the eye of the modifier. Scene flash to inside the eye and a shot of Har trapped in a device inside the eye. Scene flash to a test tube nearby where inside a test tube, a nude figure of Elly is in suspended animation.] [----END FMV 27----] [Scene fade back in on the watery green area above Har. Pan down to behind Har on the side with Fei still looking up.] FEI !! [Camera pan down a short distance more.] HAR As a contact, being but only a child, you defined my existence with your desire to return to your mother. Thus I came to prepare the mother's will... That will is Elhaym. FEI Elly's disposition was influenced by me? |

Cloud is semi-conscious when he says it. His eyes are closed, so he doesn't know it's Aerith. All he knows is that someone's put their hand on his forehead, and it's comforting. It stands to reason that he'd think it was his mother, considering that he's in the lifestream and he's just been shot and almost killed. Anyone saying that Cloud calling Aerith 'mother' proves CloTi obviously either hasn't seen that scene or is grasping at straws because there's not enough CxT evidence for them. |

As for a random note, I'm not from the east and my parents call each other Mom and Dad, not in public of course, but when we're around the house it's kinda like.... My mom: What do you want for dinner, Rikku? (no, that's not my real name, but I'm not too fond about giving lots of personal info over the internet) Rikku: Pizza! My mom: <_< Don't you have that every day? (Yes, I have pizza almost every week day, is there something bad about that?) Rikku: My mom: Fine, lemme just call Dad and see if that's okay with him. ![]() But in public they just call each other by their first names...and what does this have to do with Cloud and Aeris anyways? They don't have any children....I think. :o I just interpreted that scene as saying Aeris was a very motherly figure, and she is. |

Rabid Cloti's are saying that Cloud calling Aerith "Mother" totally invalidates Cleris, Rikku. <_< I took it to mean that Cloud felt very comforted, safe, and nurtured by her presence. I thought he just called her "Mother" because he was delerious. And I quoted you!!

I know that, what I mean is what does calling Aeris mother have to do with parents calling each other mother, because Cloud and Aeris don't have any children. I don't get how that invalidates Cleris, though, because if Cloud called Tifa mother the rabid Clotis would be calling it true wuv still. Cloud didn't see Aeris too, so how does that invalidate Cleris? I just don't get it . I interpreted that as telling the viewers that Aeris was a very motherly figure, nurturing, sweet, kind, and she looks over Cloud like a mother would, there are ladies who are very motherly to those they love, so why does it invalidate Cleris? I think they're just looking for ANYTHING to invalidate Cleris, and are getting pretty desperate, too. <_<

Kinda off topic but I just remembered I once saw a Cloud x Aerith doujinshi entitled " Mother". It was kinda sad though esp. the part where Aerith (purposely) tells Cloud she remembers nothing about him except his name.

. I've never heard them call each other by their first names. The same goes with my aunt and uncle and the parents of my friends. Maybe it's an Asian thing?
