LOL... it's amazing how this thread has evolved from discussions about dubbing in anime films to the A-Team...

No one has replied to Sef's questions? tsk...

Sefie - the A-Team was this action show from the 1980's that featured this "S.W.A.T.-for-hire" team of roughnecks who'd save hostages, etc. One of them was Mr. T (it was the show that launched his career... heck, it WAS Mr. T's career, period...)

How bout let's go back to talking about English dub actors?
I'm aware that a lot of you don't like celebrity American dubbers. But I think I've found some I like...the ones who dub Hayao Miyazaki's stuff? Kirsten Dunst did a good job in Kiki's Delivery Service. So did Billy Crudup and Claire Danes in Princess Mononoke. And James Vander Beek and Anna Paquin were okay in Castle in the Sky.

Kirsten Dunst? Missed that line in the credits!
And I thought the dubbing in Laputa was PERFECT. I don't mind celebrity voice actors at all, if a person does a good job then they do a good job, it shouldn't matter what they're like or how well they're known

I agree with you on Princess Mononoke. They did a really good job with that movie. :D I haven't seen those other two you mentioned.

Really, I just had a problem with the actors picked to voice the FF characters in Kingdom Hearts. Seriously, they picked a bunch of pop stars to voice them. The only ones that didn't have sucky voice actors were Cloud and Leon. <_<

I also liked the girl who did Chihiro's voice in Spirited Away. Jason Marsden, the guy who voiced Haku, has long been one of my favorite Western dubbers. But I think his voice was a tad too deep as Haku.

I agree...but I don't like it when they pick a person to do a voice based on his fame. I think it should be based on how good the voice is or how well it suits the character. For example, James Vander Beek's voice suited Pazu(of Laputa) so well because it was a little squeaky and wavery, like a little boy's.

They Hollywood-ized it...I think they just did it to show that they were so rich, they could afford all these famous actors
Mandy Moore and Lance Bass as Sephy and Aerith...*shudders*

What do you guys think about voice acting in a FFVII remake?

Some people are saying they would rather not have any voice acting at all and would prefer to stick with the voice/thought bubbles. They said it would allow them to decide what the character sounds like for themselves.

Others are all up in the air about English voice acting, dissing the voice acting done in FFX. Frankly, I liked the voice acting in FFX and I don't see what all the bitching is about. <_<

If they remake FFVII, I would want to see some English voice acting rather than the stupid bubbles. Who the heck wants to read some bubble rather than hearing an actual voice??? If they want to include Japanese and English voices, so people can pick what they want, that would be fine, too. I am just sick of hearing "OMFG ENGLISH ACTURZ SUK!!! JAPANEZE ACTURZ R BETTR!!! OMGWTFLOLZZZZZ11111".

I prefer reading. I didn't like the voice acting in FFX. I dunno, FFX just wasn't as deep as FFVII to me. I'm a big reader and I do like choosing the characters voices. ^_^

And my God, if they ever make Mandy Moore do Aeris's voice again, I'll kill someone.

I liked the voice acting in FFX. It was the voice acting in KH I had a problem with.

We are number one. All others are number two, or lower.
I don't know if I want voices or not in a FFVII remake, I do like reading games out loud, but it probably would fit the new style better with voices. For movies though, I definately like having English VA, I just don't get it why so many people are opposed to them. I like not having to worry about missing stuff when reading subtitles.

I'm going to have to agree here - even though I love FFX, in a way I felt the voice acting took something away from the story. I guess there really just IS something about being able to read dialogue and interpret the voices and voice acting in your head...
