Welcome, Vanelo! Oh, absolutely! There are some really fantastic English VAs out there. I honestly don't know why some people still hate dubbed Anime. Maybe because that is the way they started watching it and they just prefer it that way...?
Agree 100%! .hack//G.U. is a freaking awesome game! ![]() Still, I did like the other games, too. They just got really tedious after awhile. |

One Emerged From Shadows Into Light

That's quite possible. There's only one anime movie I actually prefer watching in Japanese, and that's Princess Mononoke... and it just so happens that I saw it in Japanese first. Then again, the casting for the English version does seem pretty awful objectively, so I dunno ![]() The only movie I can think of where I don't have a clear preference either way is FF7: Advent Children. The English actors did a VERY good job, and Steve Burton in particular absolutely nailed Cloud (although Sephiroth is woefully miscast IMHO). Yet I think the Japanese voices seem to fit the characters better (especially Aeris). Plus so much of the movie is full of action sequences, that you don't have to spend as much time multitasking between reading the dialogue and actually watching the movie as with typical subbed movies. And on top of all that, the text translation is different enough from the spoken one that it almost warrants a second viewing just for that. |

That is the only time I have preferred the JP VA to the English VA. Maya Sakamoto was SO Aerith. The English VA's for Aerith have all sucked, IMO. And with the way S-E keeps switching them out, I would say that they aren't satisfied with her VA's either.Agreed! I missed so much trying to read the dialogue! I missed a lot of the action intially.... :o

Oooo can I join? I am sick to death of people complaining about how "OMGZZ DUBS SUX!" for no apparent reason. I do watch subbed anime, but that is generally only if the dubbing is really bad (such as certain things by 4kids), or I can't find it in English. With subtitles, I find myself worrying about missing the animation, which at the end of the day is the whole point of anime right I've never got why people regard the Japanese version as so amazing, when they can't speak Japanese themselves. How can they judge it if they can't understand it  So far i've been pretty happy with FF's VA. I think the English VA have been doing a great job. The only thing I'm not happy with is Aerith's VA in KH2. That is just...ugh, Aerith shouldn't sound like a robot ![]() But overall yeah, i'm a fan of dubs, so feel free to sign me up

*Revives thread* I already brought this up in the Zidane Club, but I thought it would make a good discussion here, too. Which English VA would be best suited for Zidane? After all, Cloud, Squall, and Tidus already have English VAs (Squall's from the KH series, of course). My picks for Zidane (in no particular order): * Johnny Bosch * Vic Mignogna * Richard Ian Cox * Mona Marshall (f you want a more feminine voice) * Dave Wittenberg |

Hi everybody! I want to join! Here are my thoughts on dubs As many of you have been saying, I don't understand why some people just automatically assume subs always have the best VAs. Is it not possible for a Japanese speaker to be bad at voice acting? Just as there are good and bad English VAs, I'm sure there are good and bad Japanese ones as well. I prefer dubs because it puts me more in the moment. It's easier for me to pick up on all the different shades of a character's emotions when I'm hearing their words in a language I understand. Hearing it that way lets me instantly receive that information and keep up with the story, instead of having to stop, separate myself from the action, read the subs, then wonder what the character meant by that. I feel much less involved in the story this way. I don't hate subs, and can watch them when there's no dub available, I just prefer dubs a whole lot more. So yeah...that' my two cents. |

Can I join? I actually don't hate subtitles but I DO hate fansubs that don't translated words like "nakama" and "haki" Does that count? |

Here's another thing that I dislike about subs. It seems like a lot of guys over the age of 16 have the voices of 50 year old men. Their voices seem way too deep and mature for teenagers and young adults! However, it seems that the ladies have the opposite problem. As you brought up in the first post, FF_Goddess, many of them sound like little children. After a while they all start to sound the same... Oh, and yay for Johnny Bosch! Can we add his role as Lelouch in Code Geass to his list at the top of the thread? |

A series of uncommon places
|
I would like to join this wonderful club! As Japanese voice-acting with english sub doesn't bother me to much, I would prefer to actually understand what's being said any day. However you forgat to mention one more awesoem voice actor, Kyle Hebert, he voices Kiba (Naruto), Kamina (Gurren Lagann), and Teen Gohan (DBZ).

Omfg can I join?! Hehe I like having it being dubbed more than having to read subtitles. Though it could be hard to get into the series and then when the dubbed version is released in America it can be hard to get used to. That's how I felt with Death Note. But then after a while I loved all of the voices! I wasn't pretty fond of the original DN voices either way. So yeah That's how I felt with Kingdom Hearts. I don't like Axel's original voice and I love Quinton so much better! Heeee~ Nyah no one knows of Brad Swaile? The voice of Light Yagami (Death Note), Teen Gohan (DBZ) and Kurt (X-men Evolution). He's done other things. I've met the guy twice and he's just so amazing. Best Light ever and such an awesome person! ![]() And I noticed people kept talking about Mandy Moore. Haha I am such a Mandy fan so I loved having to hear her voice and that she played Aerith. She's a great actress and voice actress and I thought she did well as Aerith. I honestly love all the voices for Kingdom Hearts. Like David as Riku was great. Haley as Sora had a great voice. Hayden as Kairi and Jesse as Roxas. They were all great. I had some problem with Mena as Aerith but it wasn't such a big deal. I liked Yuffie's new voice but I preferred Christy's voice more. Mena I liked her in Advent Children but in KH2 she didn't such a great job. Oh well. I have to admit though Quinton's voice was great as Axel. "Fight Fight Fight" Hehe To anyone who liked Tidus' voice I agree James Arnold Taylor is amazing <3 Same goes with Tara Strong. They've done so much o.0 If anyone plays Resident Evil the voices are epic win for the character. Especially in Resident Evil 0 with Billy's voice ^w^ Nyah okay I am shutting up now. xD |
