A very good point! And to be honest, it isn't something I focus on a lot while I'm reading. Not that it isn't important, but I focus on people for what traits they have and their actions, not the color of their skin or ethnicity. And in a book with so many characters, it makes sense that not all of them would be commented on. It's interesting to know, though. As a sort of extra thing. Scott:
I hope so too! I would like to know, and I love imagining what their children would be like! Yeah, I wasn't pleased about Luna either- I would have at least liked to have the people that they marry be someone we actually know. I can't recall, but I don't think that Draco's wife was ever named either. I kinda imagine that it would be Pansy, but I'd like to know for certain. |

Hey everyone! I just want to share this Harry Potter fanfic recs site I found: Coffee and Chocolate Mostly, it houses Gen fics, and put a new spin on the well loved characters, as well as pays a good bit of attention to the characters we hardly ever think about. The reccers are also very detailed and , they've got a "Why you might care", and "Why you might not care" in all their recs, talking about the highs and lows of the fic. I almost always leave this site with the satisfaction of having read an excellent HP fic! If you're despairing having to wade the sewers of FF.net's HP section to find decent fic, then this site's for you

Draco's wife was never specifically named in the epilogue. I thought it's so fans can think up fanfiction-worthy ideas on how he met her and so forth. There are some fans who'll like Draco/Pansy, while others doesn't. At least, to me, it seems.
Yeah! I wouldn't mind knowing what kind of babies they'll have, if they get together. |

WATFORD, England -- It's official: Eight will be the magic number for the "Harry Potter" film franchise. After months of rumors, Warner Bros. and the producers of the massively successful movies will announce Thursday that they plan to split "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," J.K. Rowling's seventh and final "Potter" novel, into two blockbuster films -- one to be released in November 2010 and the second in May 2011. The films will be titled, simply, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II," according to producer David Heyman. Director David Yates, who returned for his second tour of Potter duty with "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and is quite popular with the cast, will direct both "Deathly Hallows" films, which will be filmed concurrently. Screenwriter Steve Kloves also returns and, by completion of the franchise, will have written seven of the eight films. |

It sort of feels like they are drawing things out unecissarily to me. I mean, with movies 4 and 5, they could have easily made those ones into 2 movies each, but they managed to cram everything in- they should be able to do the same here. *shrugs* If they cut out nice large chunks of the sitting around in the woods waiting for things to happen, a few of the unecissary battle scenes, I think they could manage things well enough. But I'm highly cynical about the last two books in particular, so don't mind my little black rain cloud moment. I definitely think though that 7 should be rated R- I don't see how it could not be.

Yeah, I'm in that boat, as well. I will be out of town when it comes out (until the 20th). So, I won't get to see it until the following weekend.

Wow, so it's just me so far? :o That's pretty sucky, Amaranth, that you guys don't have a midnight release. There's like a dozen places nearby that are doing midnight showings. But at least you guys won't be tired for the rest of the day! |

I was rather disappointed. Which shocks even myself because being such a fanboy, I usually love anything released by HP but I was really underwhelmed. Some parts were fantastic. I'm going talk about the movie so if you don't to be spoiled, don't read on, but since it's now on general release I don't think I need to spoiler tag it... The character development was brilliant. That was definitely the highlight for me. That while all of this chaos is going on around them, the teenage romances still manage to play a part in their lives. I thought it was adorable, very humourous and well acted. And Ron's line after Ginny and Harry kiss is hilarious. There was also a scene which I don't recall from the book. The burrow is attacked by death eaters then Harry and Ginny chase them. This was actually quite an exciting scene, and I don't remember it from the book at all. Luna was awesome. Complaints: Most of my favourite scenes from the book were altered or removed. Harry and Ginny's kiss, while still pretty cute, was all wrong. The fight of Hogwarts at the end of the book doesn't even happen, the death eaters just kinda mess the place up a bit, leave, Harry runs after them and Snape and him have a little stand off. Not very exciting for a climax. Dumbledore's death is much more emotional than Sirius's though, thank God. Tonks was underused. Her story with Lupin was almost entirely removed. I thought the writing was terrible. Whether this was a nod to the fans who thought the same of the book or not, I don't know (just joking), but some lines just made me cringe. It felt like the story was pulled from the character's mouths at some point, where they were almost acting as narrators, which REALLY put me off the movie. I really hope Deathly Hallows is better. |

That's interesting, Amaranth. I really loved it, and I think it's probably the best one so far. When adapting books to movies, certain scenes always have to be removed. The trick is just picking the right scene so that the story still flows well, and I thought they did a good job. The writing was great; all the subtle British humor that was missing from the fifth movie was back this time. And all the young actors have improved. The only thing I'm curious about is how they're going to find the diadem of Ravenclaw in the Deathly Hallows. If Harry didn't mark the spot that he hid the diadem, how is he going to know that it's there in the first place? Just a good guess? Oh well. Overall, I thought it was great. Funny, haunting, and moving. Thank goodness David Yeats improved over the hack job he did on the last movie. And although it's unrelated to the film, I had to love it when the New Moon trailer came on, and my entire theater erupted into boos.

Maybe I'm going to have to give it another go. I wish our audience got so into it though, the only words I heard were ones when I was walking out of the cinema, most of which sounded similar to "disappointing" and "worst one yet." I may have went into it with my expectations too high because it had received very good reviews. And people are still saying it's great, though I finally found some people who agree with me too. And it's interesting you mention the previous movie, I thought that one was far superior and it was my favourite book too. I think Prisoner of Azkaban has definitely been the best movie though. I really did think the writing was horrible in places though. The "Are you wondering what I'm thinking, Harry?" line felt like Dumbledore had to say it cuz Harry hadn't asked him, haha. Snape saying "I am the Half-Blood Prince" so openly and quickly too seemed wrong, he didn't even try to hide it when there was this massive thing all through the book about trying to find out who it is. Though, I did miss out a positive point in my first post. Tom Felton's acting as Malfoy was awesome. Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix was great too. Edit: After discussing it with some non-readers, they've started labelling me as a Potter Purist cuz I'm not huge on it yet they love it. I'm actually getting quite annoyed at that. I didn't say I don't like it, I said it could've been better, and I mean as a whole. Not just the missing content, but the writing and the way the movie was pieced together. It jumps from Summer to Winter in the space of 20 minutes, for example, that's half of term missing. UGH PEOPLE! |
