I don't mind that Dumbledore is gay, I just don't like the way it came out. I mean why now after all the books are written? And why did it have to be revealed the way it did? It comes off more as a publicity stunt.

I kind of wish there were more subtle hints in DH that would get people wondering and then when the encyclopedia comes out it would be mentioned in there. That would have been better than "Hey everyone, Dumbledore is gay!"

^ Well said.
I'll still love ol' Dumbledore. *nod nod*

Oh no, I don't hate Dumbledore now, I'll always like him, even if he is gay. I just don't really like that JKR did this. I agree with Rinchan, this is a publicity stunt for JKR to get more attention. Saying Dumbledore gay when she didn't say anything about in the book is just lame and attention grabbing.

That's strange that you guys feel like it was just a stunt, because I really didn't get that vibe AT ALL.

I read quite a few accounts of what she said, and it sounded to me like she was just expressing how she honestly felt about one of her characters.

I don't see how him being gay is at all pertinent to Harry's story, so people shouldn't feel like she's some sort of trickster for leaving it out of the books. It just didn't belong there.

There are more dimensions to each of the characters within the creator's mind, and they aren't always blatant. When she does release the Encyclopedia, we'll be getting more information like this, and we need to keep our minds open and be willing to realize that characters aren't only as we believe them to be.

Honestly, look at Advent Children. Who would have guessed that Cloud would be THAT unhappy even though he achieved all of his goals in FFVII? I wasn't expecting it (it's so Clerisy hahaha). I also didn't expect that Cloud would so willingly take in a child because he felt that it was something Aerith wanted him to do (but God I love him even more now XD).

But now we know these things, and it just adds dimensions to Cloud's character. It's not Nomura trying to add things in randomly, it's him fleshing Cloud out to become the full character that exists in Nomura's head. ^_^

I didn't think it was a stunt either *shrug* I mean...this was the sort of thing she always did just after a pre-released book, give us more random facts that couldn't be put into the books.

But...I do wish she gave us fans more room to play around some more! I didn't really like Neville/Hannah so easily canonized...just like that. Or Ginny 'officially' playing Quidditch for a living, or Harry 'officially' being an Auror at 17, or Ron 'officially' helping Fred with the Joke Shop, or Luna 'officially' ending up with Rolf Scamander.

I wish she'd just given us one, two years of Post-DH fanon to fool around with! I have such fun visions of the Trio entering 7th year with Ginny and Luna; Ron and Hermione (finally!)being all couple-y at Hogwarts; Luna and Dean shippiness; Percy helping George with WWW(--gawd, can you imagine all the hijinks that will ensue? They'd totally clash!); and so on.

M-hm. Of course it's her mind. It's her creation-she has the complete right to extrapolate on everyone. All the same...I kinda wish she'd let it be in our minds for a little while, at least until the Encyclopedia is released!

Exactly. It's just...I mean, we all figured this stuff would probably happen anyway, but it's always fun to speculate, as you said, have room to play around. She obviously knows we loooove teh fanfiction.

Did the epilogue have to be 19 years in the future? Just...eh. I would have rather had something leading up to the trio as adults instead of it being so final.

Luna ends up with WHO? Is that real? I sit here thinking, who the heck is Rolf?

LunaxDean FTW! I was so hoping they would get together.

Also, I always thought perhaps McGonagal and Dumbledore would have a little thing going as well.

The reason why I think that it was more of a publicity stunt is the wording of the question.

The question was "Did Dumbledore ever find true love?"

The response was "Dumbledore was gay."

So wait... does that mean he never found true love because he was gay?

This should have been a yes or no question no a "Look how progressive and daring I am!" response.

Heck JK didn't even properly answer the question.

Me, I took it more of as..."Dumbledore was gay, he was reaaaaaaal close with Grindelwald, you do the math..." *wink wink*

But I'm not a Dumbledore/Grindelwald fan and I don't think I'll ever be...I mean, it's DUMBLEDORE! *gets the willies*

I was hoping it would be all-encompassing- a huge chunk of the cast instead of just the few select characters in it! I was so wanting to know what would happen to George! I geared myself up for that kind of mega-epilogue, because that's what JKR said she would write! "You're gonna know what happens to the survivors", so I was really expecting a cast reunion where we'd find out what became of a great deal of the cast.
...But she also said she'd changed her mind about that, and we'll get the encyclopedia instead. Wish she didn't
Anyhow, I also wish she'd put some sort of ceremony before "The Flaw in the Plan" and "19 years later", given us closure for those who were lost. Like the one they had for Cedric at the end of GoF. Took me tons of fanart by
olafpriolbefore I could learn to laugh at Fred again! :cray:

In case anyone hasn't seen these yet, two sneak peaks for the Half-Blood Prince movie are out. Here they are:

Sneak Peak 1
Sneak Peak 2

Thankfully, it looks like Quidditch will finally be back in this movie! ^_^

May I make a point on this "Dumbledore is gay" nonsense? No one would be all in a tizzy if he were straight. No one would care if he had a late wife or something of the sort. But everyone gets all worked up just because he's homosexual! Just let it be. I can see him being gay and I honestly don't care. I think it's fine to have characters of many shapes, sizes, and colors so to speak. Which isn't the HP books forte. Not many ethnic people in that series. We have one asian and thats it. No hispanics, blacks, or anything.

There are blacks. And that isn't the point. The point is that she decided to mention it now, now that the series is over. I don't think anyone is bothered by the fact he's gay, it just seems like a pointless thing to add now.

And yeah, Quidditch is back, so I hope that means we get Luna's commentary ^_^

That's how I feel, too. I mean, why didn't she just come out and say it in the books? Make it part of the storyline or something. But, yeah, now that the series is over, and someone asks you about Dumbledore's love interests, she's all, "Love interests... hmm... well... *Thinks* Oh, yeah, Dumbledore is gay so he can't have any female love interests!" I swear, she pulled that out of her ass at the last minute. <_<

I'm with you too- it wasn't so much that Dumbledore was gay as it was the way she presented it. It was completely random and just out there and it felt more like a for the heck of it thing rather than giving it a spot in the storyline- seriously, all through book 7 we learn TONS about Dumbledore, and she didn't bother to insert this? Why not? Isn't it something that should have come out naturally through the flow of the books and not JKR going "Oh, by the way, Dumbledore's gay." The way she did it just seems like something she came up with to shock people and to get more publicity. *shrugs*

And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Dean Thomas black? Angelina Johnson too. I could swear there were some others, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Does anyone think that Hagrid will get married to Madam Maxime? (that is how you spell her name, right? ) I'm kinda surprised she didn't adress this in book 7 either. Poor Hagrid doesn't get his romance interest? How unfair! :P

In a lot of books, with the sheer amount of characters there are, Ethnicity isn't going to come into play like that. I'm sure there were many different people of many different backgrounds and races. It's just absurd to think that JK is going to stop and describe every one of those people for us. It's true that only one main character so far isn't Caucasian, and I'm sure the only reason she got such description was because she was Harry's love interest at one point.

What about the Russian characters, or the French characters? Yah, their WHITE but they are still from a different background, they speak different languages, and have different customs.

Not to mention the racism towards Elves, Giants, Ogres, half-bloods. Yeah, they aren't all real, but it should help getting my point across.

It's stated in the book that both Angelina Johnson and Dean Thomas are black, yes. The HP series seems to be ridiculed for just about everything, but I can't see any reason for it not to be labelled "diverse." There's people from the world over at some point in the series. Also, in the movie at least, Lee Jordan is black. It is only stated in the book that he has his hair in dreadlocks, but in the movies at least he was given a different ethinicity (and I believe JK has a say on everything in the movies).

Alantie, about Hagrid and Maxime, I hope that gets answered in the encyclopedia. It was hinted at a lot, but no conclusion was given so I hope we get SOME kind of explanation. But if they end up marrying people who we've never heard of (Like Luna did, for example :( ), then that'll be pretty annoying.
