I'm currently re reading the Harry Potter books just finished book 3, i'm not too keen on the RonxHermione pairing i'm a HarryxHermione fan myself.
Also i have just finished the Lord of the Rings books, even though i have read the books several times.

I'm currentely reading The Idiot by Fyodor Dostorvsky. In order to one: brush up on my skills of pronouncing the names right, and two to love it again.
I'm currentely trying to figure out why Rogozhin is becoming so obessed with Nastasya and what Prince Myshkin is going to say to her at her birthday party. I want to know who Nastasya is going to choose to marry her!

I finished reading The Road about a week ago. Awesome book. Doesn't have much of a sense of closure, but very well written, and one of the most atmospheric books I've ever read.

I'm currently reading The Host by Stephanie Meyer. Definately has some unique concepts so far, and seems like a really cool sci-fi book, something I did not expect from the author of the Twilight series.

Wait until you get to Half-Blood Prince :D

You've GOT to let me know how you like the book when you're done with it. I've never read The Idiot, but was a huge fan of Crime and Punishment, and certainly wouldn't mind knowing how they compare :)

Dostoevsky's true masterpiece is The Brothers Karamazov. It's my favorite piece by him, and he's my favorite author. :D

That's what everyone keeps telling me. I really need to get around to reading it at some point @_@

Gosh, I totally hear you here. I never saw the appeal of Ron and Hermione as a couple. I hated the way they were always aruging. >.<

I can’t decide whether to reread The Dark is Rising Sequence or His Dark Materials for semestral break. Eh, most probably, I’ll buy a load of stuff at the bookstore and end up reading those instead- I have a fat, happy list waiting.

Read DiR again!!! :hyper: I'm rereading the Host myself currently, but I'm planning on rereading those, Narnia, and LotR soon- after I finish reading the Chronicles of Chrestomanci. I've finished volume one, and I just got two today. Those books are brilliant so far!!

I've missed book talk with you! <33 We need to revive the Narnia and DiR threads!!!

I've heard The Dark is Rising is OK, but it seems very cliche from the plot descriptions, and that has kept me from giving it a shot.

Zomg, don't saaay that!!! I'm completely and totally in love with that series. I honestly don't think it's cliche- it's so beautifully written and utterly fascinating. These series completely pwns Harry Potter. I'm dead serious.

And I'm glad you're enjoying The Host so far. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it- I've only read it once and that was about. . . 8 months ago I think. But I'm rereading it at the moment, like I said. ^^

Edit: Random, but I've been wanting to read some of C.S. Lewis's other books. Anyone read anything else by him besides Narnia?

The Screwtape Letters is pretty amazing. Definately a unique concept, and very well written. I also had to read excerpts from Mere Christianity when I was in college, and if the whole book is as good as what I read, I'd very likely recommend it.

OTOH, you might wanna avoid the Space Trilogy. I tried to get into it, but the first book starts off very slowly and archaically, and isn't terribly interesting. And I don't mean just the first dozen pages or so. I've heard the second and third books are vastly superior, but I can't confirm or deny this obviously :(

I'm not sure if he did any other fiction. AFAIK, the rest of his books (like the aforementioned Mere Christianity) were non-fiction writings about his life, philosophy, religion, etc. The Lion the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Last Battle are still his best works IMHO

Also, C. S. Lewis is one of those rare individuals who's actual real life was at least as interesting as the material he wrote about, and I mean that in the most positive possible way. If there's anyplace near you that happens to run a play about his life, and is done on a professional level, I highly recommend attending, and I speak from personal experience on this. I've heard the movie Shadowlands, which is supposed to be a biography of him, is also pretty good.

EDIT: I have a confession to make... the real reason I'm so reluctant to get into The Dark is Rising is because that movie that came out earlier this year based on it was freaking awful, and regardless of the quality of the books, it left a really bad impression on me that makes me not want to touch anything related to it.

Would it be correct to say that the books themselves are fantastic, and that Hollywood simply butchered it like so many other books out there? If so, I guess I need to be more objective about this @_@

Thanks, Vanelo!! ^_^ I've been hearing good things about the Screwtape letters, so I've been thinking of giving that a try. : D I haven't heard much about the Space Trilogy, but that's kind of sad that it's not that great. : (

Oh my gosh- do NOT base the books on that horrible monster of a movie. It is absolutely nothing like the books, I assure you. Will is not a whiny thirteen year old who abuses his powers and crushes on a girl. Seriously, that is the most horrible translation of a book to a movie ever. They took out all the mythological refrences and everything. Seriously, it was a wreck- even the author was furious with it, that's how horrible it was. The fanbase for the books all loathe the movie. I assure you, if you read the books, they are ever so much better. Ten thousand times better!!!

I'm currently reading the Ender series. I wanted to start Xenocide, and I requested it at the library, but I didn't go get it fast enough(hey, I was busy), and they sent it back.

Well, I just started reading it over starting with Ender's Game. I like it as much as when I first read it. Now I'm rereading Speaker for the Dead. ^^

Also, Koontz ftw. LOVE his books. But, sorry, Nevaleigh. I haven't read False Memory yet.

edit: I went to the library to request Xenocide again, and while I'm waiting for that a plan to read a collection of hard science fiction stories I picked up. It looks pretty interesting.

I'm reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, it's a WWII story about a young German girl. Very good so far, and a really unique POV, but it's so sad. And to balance out the depression, I'm rereading Tam Lin by Pamela Dean because it's awesome XD And ZOMG Alantie, I can't believe how many little clues there were all along to the supernatural part of the story

Hmmm, I don't know HOW to describe the writing of Susan Cooper, the best I can do is to show you some excerpts ;)

I just finished the new Toni Morrison novel, A Mercy. Of course, like everything else she writes, it was amazing. I'm gonna re-read it soon.

Now I'm about two thirds through The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
