This is late, but d'aw, thanks Alantie! I'd love those Arthurian book recs- I want a fat and happy reading list for semestral break.^_^I also watched the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird-completely loved it as well <3 Different medium, same story, so I saw a lot of things in a different light- I didn't expect Atticus's monologue to be that emotional in the movie. Only have time for TS Eliot poems right now- I love his imagery! I'm trying to sneak in some Dianna Wynne Jones books but no time, grrrr. |

You'll have to let me know if it's worth reading. I wasn't too impressed with the last one, so I'm going to get reviews before I read. ![]() Ok, Kusari! Here are some suggestions for Aurthurian reading: Queen of Camelot- by Nancy Mackenzie. Seriously AWESOME portrayal of Guinevere. I adored it- just bought my own copy <3. She also wrote two more: Grail Prince, which is about Lancelot's son. It was fairly good. And the other is Prince of Dreams, about Tristan and Isolde, which I have yet to read. Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Anne Sandell . This is about Elaine, the Lady of Shalott. A different twist on things, and written in a different sort of style, but I really enjoyed this one. Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I personally didn't enjoy this too much, but it's popular with lots of Arthurian fans. *shrugs* The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, the Last Enchantment, and The Wicked Day by Mary Stuart. These are about Merlin- I've only read the first one so far and honestly wasn't terribly impressed, but again, most Arthurian fans like them, so I'm going to try and get through the rest of the series. I'll keep my eye out for more! ![]() Oh, and just finished reading the Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey. It was alright, I suppose. |

Around 2/3 way-ish through Brisingr. Interesting, so far. Also, just got The Wizard of Rondo by Emily Rodda, the sequel to The Key to Rondo. Suffice to say, Rodda's fantasy stories = many, many

@ Alantie: Lol, you can catch a lot of things the second time around. Like when Thomas and Robin are talking about Hamlet—Thomas is hinting at his ordeal with the faeries, Robin is trying to comfort him—but of course, the first time you read it, it just seems like an ordinary literary discussion. *g* The only one I can think of right now is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susannah Clarke- I remember fangirling over it in an earlier post. It’s alternate history Britain during the Napoleonic Wars, it combines history and fantasy. Within the main plot, there are lots historical-sounding footnotes with pretend biographies of past magicians and lots of quirky anecdotes... so that when you finish it, you half believe that England used be a dark magic kingdom ruled by the mysterious Raven King. There are historical figures like the Duke of Wellington, Lord Byron, and King George III, and the main story is about a brilliant young magician and his eccentric mentor who are prophesied revive the old dying magick of England. Love the characters though I'd have liked more strong female ones! It is very thick(1000+ pages in soft cover) but if you like this kind of thing, so much fun! Reading The Silver Chair all over again. If this is not made into a movie, I will flail *loves Jill, Puddleglum, and redeemed-but-still-snarky Eustace* I can’t decide whether to reread The Dark is Rising Sequence or His Dark Materials for semestral break. Eh, most probably, I’ll buy a load of stuff at the bookstore and end up reading those instead- I have a fat, happy list waiting. Finally, I’m about 75% of the way through the Animorphs series, which thanks to a little thing called ebooks, I can now read in its entirety. My theory on why Marco never got a love interest- the writers figured they’d leave him to the fangirls. *g* |

Aw, I wish those translators would hurry and translate the rest of the books. I've only read the first 20.Right now I'm reading Patricia Cornwell's Cruel and unusual as my English homework. I'm slowly yet surely beginning to doubt if my English skills are enough to read that one. D: |

If you want my advice, ignore them BOTH and stick with whatever else you're planning on buying ![]() I've heard The Dark is Rising is OK, but it seems very cliche from the plot descriptions, and that has kept me from giving it a shot. His Dark Materials is well written and easy to pick up and read, but the ridiculous amount of focus on themes instead of actual plot, and it's preachyness, combined with just how disturbing and depressing it all is, just kills it in the long run IMHO. |
