Boys just wanna get in your tutu.
Haven't really read a lot of books lately, but I just finished Henry David Thoreau's essay Civil Disobedience. It's a must-read for any anarchist anyone who's into transcendentalism and needs brain food. That, and this thing totally affirms what a badass Thoreau was. We can all learn something from this guy.

Right now, I'm reading The Ghost Writer by someone. I just picked it up because I was mainly in a hurry because the class was leaving the library, but it's actually pretty good so far ^^

The special three-books-in-one Deltora Quest 2: Pirran Pipe series edition that just came out, by Emily Rodda.

After seeing the first five episodes of the anime adaptation, it's great to read about Lief, Jasmine and Barda in the books yet again! Already read the first part and now up to the group getting the stem of the Pirran Pipe. <3

Lief is love, don't you forget it. Especially with his concern for others, his awareness of palace activities, the people's wishes and fears, the lurks of spies and assassins. Plus his cute reaction when he reveal his secret at the end of the second series (read it years ago) and surprise at the misassumption of it.

Weee~! <3 I'd be happy if they release the Four Sisters saga as a all-in-one-book edition! :fangirl:

In my English class we are currently reading a book called Speak by Laurie Halse Andersen. It is a pretty good book so far. Though some parts of it are pretty sad and I can empathize with the main character a bit.

Read Les Miserables from February to May. 1460 pages, easily THE longest book I have ever read...and one of the best! Ever.
I tore through the book, on a high from watching the musical, and promptly went into another high. I was floored by Victor Hugo wonderful, romantic detail...oh, he'll go off on a tangent every now and then, rambling about the stars and the trees and sewers(yup!^_^')...but he does it in such beautiful language, yknow? I have to hand it to the guy, even when he's babbling on paper, it comes out as art! :o And I LOVED his characters even more than I did in the musical...tortured Jean Valjean, obsessed Javert, snarky street beggar Gavroche, playful lovers Marius and Cosette, passionate rebel Enjolras ...gah, I'm beginning to sound like the back of a dime-store romance novel, aren't I?
Anyway, if you are patient, and persevering, interested in a brilliant story saga, or just want a marvelous classic on your bragging list, then read Les Miserables. All 1460 unabridged pages of it!

I am also getting into thrillers, since I found The Da Vinci Code fairly good. I just finished The Romanov Prophecy by Steve Berry, about the massacre of the Romanovs in the early 20th century...and the two imperial children missing from the family grave. Now while I find the main characters a bit cliched(solemn lawyer and gorgeous acrobat, heh, who can bet they'll fall for each other?), I've always neem intrigued by the historical mystery. And boy, this book had me thinking "Hmmm, maybe it really DID happen"! And it convinced me more than ever that Alexei and Anastasia Romanov escaped :)

I'm now reading The Rule of Four and having SO much fun with it! Now this is an intelligent thriller! It's about two young Princeton students, obsessed with unlocking the mysteries of a book, and maybe a path to hidden treasure. But besides that, it's also a coming of age story, detailing their friendship with their two roomates and relationships, both romantic and familial. It has great characters, and for once, I'm hoping they will not be killed off in typical thriller fashion. Unlike others where you start thinking "Okay...he'll get killed next, and then him, and then him...".

Wow, 1460 pages? That would have taken me a lot longer than three months to read. The Madame would have been distracted by something shiny every twenty pages or so. Way to go, Kusari!

At the moment, I'm reading Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami. It is delightfully crazy. I just love the simple, matter of fact voice of the narrator. It isn't the most recommended of Murakami's books, that honour goes to Kafka on the Shore according to the Amazon reviews, but I really like it. It's difficult to describe the story without spoiling things, but I'll give it a try.

The protagonist (whose name we don't learn) is a man in his thirties who is suffering from recurring dreams of the Dolphin Hotel, a seedy place he once stayed in with a call girl named Kiki that he dated when he was younger. In his dreams, Kiki is crying and calling for him, so he decides to pay the hotel a visit in the hopes he can meet her again. When he gets there, the hotel has been transformed into a high class, modern art style hotel like the Hilton. He asks the manager what happened to the old hotel, but doesn't get a straight answer. Here's where it starts to get weird. The protagonist makes friends with an uptight young receptionist who tells him that there's something weird about the 16th floor of the hotel. It turns out that there's an alternate dimension on the 16th floor, and this dimension is where 'The Sheep Man' (a guy who's dressed in a sheep costumer and talks in riddles) is waiting for the protagonist. Yes, really. There's some great characters, like the crazy weird Sheep Man, a surly psychic teenager named Yuki who loves David Bowie and Talking Heads, and nice-guy Gotanda who's a typecast actor. After the first half of the book, it starts to veer towards becoming a murder mystery. I'll not say any more about it, but trust me, it's a really good book.

Yeah, it's divided into 5 volumes, where I stuck little Post It dividers so it wouldn't seem long. And in between the volumes, I DID get distracted, by some of my old childhood books: Bridge to Terabithia and those American Girl stories. Nostalgia! Hmmm, I wonder if anyone else here read the American Girls series as a kid. They're stories about 9 year old American Girls who live in different time periods; my sister and I collected a whole bunch of 'em while growing up. We still read them from time to time, even though I'm 19 and she's 25 :giggle:

One of my friends has been recommending Japanese novels for a long time...they're all rather strange and surreal, aren't they?

I just finished The Rule of Four. Man oh man, what an ending! My reaction: :cray: :( :o :woot:

But gawds, I hate how those rabid Da Vinci Code fanboys/fangirls keep bashing it. An actual post from Imdb:

I've read them!!! I loved those books when I was young. . . they were so awesome!!! I think I might have missed some of the newer ones about the more recent girls, but other than that. . . I even have 2 of the dolls! Did you ever get one? I have Molly and Kristen. I always wanted more and all of their cool stuff, but I cuold never afford it. . . *weeps*

Lets see at the moment, I'm reading Odd Thomas and Across the Nightingale Floor and loving both! :huggle:

Edit: My 500th post!!! *does happy dance*

^W00t, another AG fan! Collected lots of books, but never any dolls :P I read Molly('Molly's Surprise' is one of my favorite Christmas stories ever!), Kirsten, Samantha, Josefina, and Felicity. Felicity was my favorite girl of them all though. And even when I was a kid, I always had a feeling she and Ben Davidson would get together when they were older...:giggle:

Lol, yes, I always liked Felicity. She was so spunky, and she loved horses. Plus the thing with her and Ben. . . Yeah, I saw it too. Heehee. They will get together when they are older. ! Wouldn't that be fun? They do the AG when they are older!! I would love to read those! I always really liked Samantha, maybe because the Victorian area was so appealing to me- her Christmas story was really cute. Though yes, I loved Molly's too. ^_^ I felt so sorry for her in the Changes one, where she was supposed to be the star of the show but got too sick to preform, but then she's the only one home to greet her dad? I think I was practically in tears! I don't remember reading Josephina, she must be one of the more recent ones I suppose. Lol, now I have to go read them again! :D

Yeah, he'll go off to fight in the war, and she'll be waiting for him at home, praying for him to come back...that kind of situation is practically begging for a romantic plot! Not to mention when he comes home from the war and finds her all grown up...
I haven't seen the Felicity TV movie, but other fans swear up and down that they hinted at a future Ben/Felicity romance. And judging from this fan made music video,I think they are! :giggle: Is it just really good editing,or does the girl playing Felicity look smitten with the guy playing Ben? I don't blame her though...he's hot!

Well back to the books...I didn't read much of Samantha actually, just her school story :P What's her Christmas story about?

H.I.V.E (Higher Institute of Villaineous Education) by Mark Walden - I was bored, my friends have things to do, am at the library, so I pick the first book that caught my attention. Namely this lil guy's shiny, shiny silver cover.

Another one of those Going To A Special School stories, but this time, our protagonist/s, Otto and fellow students he befriended, was 'abducted' and send to H.I.V.E to learn the 'inner, deep beauty' of villainy. While at going to their lessons, Otto hopes to escape and went back to the outside world, who are unknowing of the school aside from the criminal world.

Interesting book, seen some familiar character traits of Neville Longbottom in Nigel Darkdoom and the scenarios the characters faced.

*giggles* That guy IS hot!!! Its not just you, Felicity looks absolutely smitten!!

Lets see, Samantha's Christmas story. . . she's busy making gifts for all of her family, except for Cornelia (her Uncle's girlfriend), who she can't decide whether to get a present for or not. She's half angry with Cornelia because her spending Christmas with them means she can't go to a special party, or use her own decorations, but she also likes Cornelia because she's so fun to be with. They go shopping together, and Samantha shows her the doll she wants so much for Christmas but is afraid to ask for. Its dressed in a pink silk dress and is holding a tiny nutcracker doll! They make a gingerbread house, and go sledding and have tons of fun. Sam after tons of deliberation, gets Cornelia a huge box of chocolates, but at the last minute she switches it with her uncle's gift, a tiny box she pasted pretty pictures all over. And. . . Cornelia bought Sam the doll she wanted so much. Its really a cute story. ^_^
