Rabid yaoi fangirls are crazy. Evidence, schmevidence; Proof, schmoof; as long as they can get two bishies in bed, they will look for basis that isn't there They took advantage into that rival connection between Squall and Seifer and turned it into hardcore yaoi-lovin <_<

Like the scene at the underground dungeon where Seifer was torturing Squall with electric currents. That's proof they loved each other, really!

My last message had been to to Appril, the previous message. Squall loved Rinoa and respected Seifer. I didn't say that Squall thought of him like that, because Squall and Rinoa are together and I am a huge supporter of Squall and Rinoa's relationship. Squall and Rinoa are a great couple. When I said Squall had respect for Seifer, I meant he had respect for him as a friend, not, like, you know. He thought about him a lot and was worried about him. As I said, I'm a Squall and Rinoa supporter and they are together, Squall didn't have feelings for anyone else. Things changed from how they were at the beginning. Squall had respect for Seifer during disc one and the first half of disc two, he even said he liked the guy "I liked him", not like that, but he liked him and had respect for him, as he thought about him a lot, but it changed on the second half. Squall fell in love with Rinoa and thought about her a lot and they became a couple on disc three and Squall loved Rinoa during discs three and four and they were together then. Squall liked Seifer, but did not have any, you know, feelings for him, the one he loved was Rinoa, as they are together during discs three and four. Throughout the game, those were the two people Squall showed the most respect for, as Squall didn't seem to have as much good interaction with Zell, Quistis or Irvine. Squall showed respect for Selphie, but the two people who Squall knew the most were Rinoa, his love and Seifer, whom he had respect for because he felt they were similar. I'm a huge Squall/Rinoa fan and I like Seifer a lot, he's a good character. Squall, Rinoa and Seifer are my favorite Final Fantasy VIII characters. Just wanted to clear that up. So, how about we talk about FFVIII music. I own the soundtrack and it rocks. FFVIII has some of the best songs. Yeah, I was just repetetive. Sorry about that. I just wanted to clear up what I meant.

I still don't agree that Squall and Seifer were meant to be friends, but considering that you've brought out good points here, so that's a point taken.

Actually what was Seifer's exact role in the game? He's not that important after the whole plot about Ultimecia emerges, except being a pain-in-the-ass to Squall who had defeated him three times in a row. I understand that Seifer might have been integral to the story (since he's in the opening FMV after all), but I can't figure out why.

Hmmm... I think he just faded out when Ultimecia was brought up, right? Oh wait, no, he was there with the Adel-Rinoa monster thing. :puke: That part mightily freaked me out.

Usagi, I don't think Squall and Seifer were really friends, but your point is taken. For the game, I guess he was there to toughen up Squall, teasing him and insulting him when they were young. It made Squall change to who he is now, and I guess that's why he was important.

The part where Seifer's character starts to show some significance other than being an arrogant dude is when he teams up with Edea to become the Sorceress' Knight. That's right after he fails the SeeD exam. I think it was part of his campaign to prove himself and his dream. Failing to be a SeeD was a big blow to his ego and he just couldn't take it...he had to prove himself more than that. Like "If I can't be a SeeD, at least I can be something greater"
And then all through the game, Squall beat him again and again and prevented him from fulfilling his big ambitions. And then his most trusted cohorts, Fujin and Raijin, left him. His last desperate gesture was to toss Rinoa over to Adel. In the end, Seifer had nothing to lose, no matter what he did

My views exactly. Without knowing it, he was making Squall into a stronger person by his jeers and jibes. At the same time, he was also bolstering his ego from insulting Squall. I guess they both fed off each other.
Wait, ewww, that doesn't sound quite right...

I've recently started replaying FFVIII, it's been gathering dust on the shelf for a while. I think the last time I played it was a couple of years ago. As this might indicate, it's not my favourite FF in the series. I hated having to draw magic from monsters, I wasn't impressed with the GF amnesia thing, and I've never liked Squall. It's not that I don't understand his character, because I do. I just don't care for him.

This playthrough though, I found myself more tolerant of him. He's definitely not my favourite hero ever, but I'm never really drawn to characters like him. I prefer characters like Laguna, those with a heart of gold and a cocky streak who do and say stupid things sometimes. Or all the time, in Laguna's case. But I still <3 him.

I do like some aspects of the game. As you might have guessed, I adore Laguna. I thought he and Raine were sweet, and I loved how he got along with little Ellone. I'm addicted to Triple Triad. I love Seifer, and his snarky comments on the way to the SeeD exam in Dollet were priceless. Fuujin and Rajin amuse me, Selphie's brilliant, and the music is fantastic. Blue Fields, Balamb Garden, Fragments of Memories, Succession of Witches, The Castle, Drifting... I think Uematsu did a fantastic job with the soundtrack.

I really love FF VIII, I am still enjoy the junction system, the story and the characters.

Even when the only ones that really grow was Squall and Rinoa, all the other tke a shine on me. I love Quistis, the characters who just that even the person who did eeveything perfect are still human and have doubts and fears, Selphie always with her cheerful personality, is so funny when you start he game and before going to the fire cavern you go to the squad, she follow Squall and forced him to join in the festival comite LOL

Seifer, Fujin and Raijin, I really want to play with them! The loyal friends who follow to hell each other, even when they know Seifer was acting in the wrong team, the told that the follow Seifer cause they are his only friends.

I love Zell... :fanboy:

The orphanage part is was so cute! I enjoyed a lot his game, and the GF theory have sense when you notice hat the only one using it are the Balamb Garden (using, not junctioning), Trabia and Galbadia don´t allowed their student their use.

The Squall-Rinoa relationship was nice, it wasn´t forced, at first I believee it was it, but then I see it and the way Rinoa make her pth to Squall´s heart is really the only way you can with hat kind of person. But I admit that the Laguna-Raine lovestory is more emotional, I always with teary eyes whe I see the ending.

About the Rinoa-Ultimecia theory... I don´t think is correct. Edea said that Ultimecia is a sorceress far beyond their generation, is impossible that Ulti was Rinoa, even when sorceress has a lifespan more larger than ordinary human (look Cid and Edea), there is not way Rinoa could keep young for centuries.

And Ulti´s motives, just common sense, she was defeated in the present, so people in the future will be aware of this sorceress, and looking at FF VIII world history, they would have make a pursuit to stop the awake of Sorceress Ultimecia awake. Imaging a litlle girl being accused for thing she never did, but that the discrimination and fear would make awake the hate in her for the human kind, like Ellone said past can`t change and Ultimecia will rise for the hatee and fear from the people from the future.

About Seifer role in the game, the theme from final fantasy VIII, beside the love story is the fated children (liberi fatali), Seifer is destied to be the sorceress knigth while Squall, Zell, Selphie, Irvine and Quistis are the children destined to defeat Ultimecia, and you could add Ellone to the fated children too. Sometimes I am annoy at Square cause they tried to make us believe that Squall was the destineed to defeat Ulti, when in the final figth maybe you don´t have the opportunity to play with him.

Someone can really forget the Balamb vs Galbadia Garden? One of the best moment in the game.

The music, without doubt the best in all FF.

And of course... Seifer end with Zell :fanboy:

Come on, if you have ANY doubt, look Seifer desing in KH2, so GAY LOL

FF8 is the second FF game EVER I played, after FF9, so it have nostalgic values to me.

Squall interests me, even though I like guys like Laguna ( :fangirl: ), from the opening FMV (not looks, but also his weapon and his EYES!), as well as Seifer.

Rinoa is...okay, but I like the romance between her and Squall, though not the best in the world. But she kick butts in battle (she perform Wishing/Shooting Star (which one is it?) with Angelo on Ultimecia! Mwahahaha!), though I don't use Angel Wings quite as often.

I never really give much though to R=U theory, sometime it's okay, sometimes it's not. I'm neutral on that.

The battle system is OK, though getting the magic is bothersome at times. (Oh god, only Bahamut knows the ability to refine Forbidden magic? :o ) But I get to see things like that PuPu UFO and...JUMBO CACTUAR!

As for the music, I love it. Especially anything related to the sorceress, the latin lyrics give it an powerful, unearthly feel, ya know?

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the battle system for this FF (drawing and junctioning), but that was actually one of my favorite parts of the game. I felt like I was in total control of my characters in battle. I could make them immune to what I wanted them to be immune to instead of having to find the right accessories. Plus, junctioning 99 Deaths to my weapon made most battles go a whole lot more quickly.

I just liked how instead of having characters who are pre-made to be good at specific things and can't deviate from that very much, I could manipulate their stats to fit how I wanted them. I could make one person particularly fast, another particularly strong, or another particularly good with magic. And by being able to junction elemental magic to your weapons, it provided another strategic path for when you battled enemies with certain weaknesses.

Although, I will admit that it was frustrating when I'd fight a boss, forget to Draw, and then later find out that boss had a GF.

I liked the battle/junction system really, I thought it was eay to use...I wish they'd bring it back! (I hated that sphere grid thing in X  )
I liked that too Sadhana it was something different for once!

oh! and I loved the Triple Triad! that was fun! I loved how you could go up to random's and challenge them! but...I'd always save first incase I lost a good card XD

Ditto, here. I like the Junction system, it challenges my mind into thinking the best junction for each stats. Unless I feel lazy and choose Auto. My first file somehow got Rinoa and Zell stronger AND faster then Squall, and end up causing more damage to Ultimecia while our favourite lion end up using Revive and occasional Renkokuzen.
