To touch the light I see in your eyes...

The previews are making it appear that the flower field scene is the first time that Cloud has "seen" Aerith since the end of FFVII. I always assumed that Cloud would either be searching for Aerith and/or communicating with her in some way since the end of FFVII. If Cloud had been communicating with her, I don't think he'd still be feeling so guilty. Aerith would confront his feelings of guilt immediately. Yet, the flower field seems to be the first time it's brought up between them. On the other hand, there's no real greeting between them in the flower field scene, either. Aerith just says to him, "Question: why are you here?" If this is the first time he's seen her in two years, why would she greet him like that? That makes it appear that there has been some sort of communication between them prior to this. So what has been going on? Has Cloud been communicating with Aerith or not between FFVII and AC? He's living in the Church, and I would assume he's there because of Aerith, yet there's no indication that he communicates with or senses her presence there. Is the implication that this is the first time Cloud has communicated with her in two years bothering anyone else, or is it just me? |

It's been bothering me too Aly. At the end of FFVII when Cloud says he thinks he can meet her and Tifa agrees with him it always seemed to me as if it was something that they were going to do as soon as possible. Now that's it two years later it wouldn't make any sense if Cloud just went looking for Aerith for the first time in two years, not to me anyway. Maybe I'm just being silly though

You don't know how many of those scenes may appear on the movie... I guess I'll just wait until the movie comes out to post questions, right?

What exactly implies that it is their first meeting? The fact that Cloud mentions his guilt and that if he had seen her before he would have before and all that? Well, after Aerith did tell him she never blamed him, did he really suddenly feel alright? I think he'd still feel 'guilty'. Maybe he mentioned it many times before. Or maybe he just didn't realize or know how to put his feelings into words? Or maybe SE just wanted us to see that scene so they made it there just for convinience sake? To be honest, I don't think SE is sticking too true to the original story and ending. They will probably ignore some lines said in the game, change some things, etc to fit it into the movie as they would like it to be. I think the line 'I think I can meet her there' will be vaguely linked somehow to the movie. I have a feeling a lot of unanswered questions will remain unanswered in the movie... |

Just because it's the first time they meet after FFVII does not mean Cloud wouldn't have been searching for her. I believe it is just that he hasn't been able to find her, or Aerith had not appeared to him until now. I don't think Aerith can just come and go at will and have a little chat with Cloud when she is in the mood. Don't you think the planet has something to say who can and can not come back from the dead (Promised Land, if she really is there now), so to speak? And now that things are starting to look bit grim, she has been allowed to communicate with Cloud once again.
Well after seeing all those screenshots and everything else, I firmly believe that it is just a dream. The kind when Aerith appeared to Cloud after Cloud had given Sephy the Black Materia. In that dream Aerith just talked to Cloud about things that did not really make sense at that point, and I believe the same thing is happening again. Greetings, hugs and kisses are saved for the moment they meet for real when they can actually communicate without any limitations. And I have a feeling that in that scene Cloud wakes up before anything important can happen between him and Aerith.
I seriously doubt that they have not been in contact after FFVII, it wouldn't really make sense if they had been. It would take away quite much from her death and make it seem bit less important if she could be in contact with Cloud even when she is long gone. And Cloud wouldn't be so suicidal and depressed if he could have talked with Aerith, don't you think? And the reason why Cloud is spending so much time in the church is because I believe it is a calm place where his memories of Aerith are as strong a they could be. That place is comforting to Cloud, and if he can not be with her he might as well be in a place she loved very much. That's all he has left of her, soothing memories and the church she so loved. :) |

There's yet to be any indication that he's been searching for her. I guess I'm surprised that Square hasn't given any indication of it - to me, that would be one of the primary things they would show, especially since Cloud was portrayed that way in Tactics and KH. And Wilhelm's translations of Aerith's monologues in Dismantled make it appear that she spoke to Cloud's mind in the Sleeping Forest in pretty much the same way she speaks to the Planet, so I think she would have more control over it than you think.
But in the Sleeping Forest dream, he was actually asleep. This time, he was driving Fenrir. I doubt he was actually asleep.
I would agree that's why he's in the Church. As I said before, I guess I'm just surprised that Square hasn't given any indication yet of communication happening between Cloud and Aerith during the last two years, and they've yet to give any indication that he has been searching for her for the last two years. To me, those should be primary to his characterization. Instead, they're dropping hints that he was living with Tifa, which is in total contradiction to the views of Cleris supporters as well as in contradiction to what they've shown us in Tactics and KH. Perhaps the issues involving Aerith have been too complex for them to portray easily in the previews, but it seems to me that there should have been some indication of it. |

Well, I just do not want to see Aerith become too powerful. I liked the way she was in FFVII when she knew much about everything but in most cases she was still bit too confused to do anything with the information she had. But I suppose she can't remain like that forever.
Perhaps they are presuming that we already know that Cloud has been searching for a way to be with her again because of the hints they gave in Tactics and KH? But that might be bit too much to expect from a regular FF fan. ![]()
That is exactly what I have been thinking for some time now. How could they possibly explain something as complex as that with just few screenshots and short previews. The issues involving Cloud and Aerith are something that few pictures can not explain. :) |
