Will Aerith Heal Cloud?; When she touches his arm?

In the flower field scene, Aerith touches Cloud's arm. Some people have been trying to say that she's trying to heal Cloud's Geostigma.

It's possible, but when was it ever shown that a spirit's touch could heal someone in FFVII? Theoretically, it could actually make Cloud's Geostigma worse since Aerith is now part of the Lifestream. If the Lifestream within people is causing an overreaction to the Jenova cells inside people and Cloud is further exposed to the Lifestream by Aerith's touch, then his Geostigma could actually get worse. (I don't think Aerith would do that intentionally... but it's an interesting possibility.)

Since Cloud already had Jenova cells in him before getting Geostigma, is his case pretty advanced? Will that make it more difficult to heal him?

Of course, this all involves whether Cloud will die of Geostigma by the end of the movie... or will Aerith save Cloud from dying? Aerith would most likely heal him if it's possible for her to do it, but Cloud is actually wanting to die at this point. If Aerith does heal him, it will cause she and Cloud to be separated even longer!! :o :(

So what are the chances that Aerith will heal Cloud?

I'd say pretty low actually. It would make sense for her to, but I dunno. My gut's sayin' no(or that it's hungry, either way nothing positive).
Hmmmm....I'm trying to think of something constructive to add to this, but I'm too wiped out from work. I'll post later when I have more to say!

Uh... I don't think she was trying to heal Cloud. Maybe it was just a gesture of trying to comfort him, kind of like an "everything's going to be all right" thing.

Besides, can Aerith heal by touch? Doesn't she, like... need Materia or magic or anything else? Of course, that's taking it from the "Aerith is tangible" point of view. Baaah. I don't know...

Yup, I think so too! I don't think she was trying to heal him, if she was why didn't she do it sooner? I like to think she drifts in to the Church sometimes, maybe when he's sleeping. Or more. The flower field scene doesn't seem like it's the first time they've spoken. If it were, she'd start off with a "Hi" or "Don't freak out" or something along those lines. It feels more like they've grown accustomed to meeting like this.

So... I think it's just a little talk, to make sure he's okay, that he's ready to step into the place she died. It seems he hasn't been there in a long time...

That's a good point. The Cloti's like to think that Aerith is healing Cloud when she touches him because they want him alive at the end of it. But we don't even know that a spirit can do that with a touch. Like you said, why didn't she do that sooner, if she's able to do it? Why isn't she healing the children? It was never shown in FFVII that a spirit could heal a person by touching them, so why should it happen now?

I want to believe that they've spoken many times like this, too... that he is able to speak with her in the Church, in his dreams, etc. That's how I've always pictured it. But the flower field scene comes across to me as the first time he's seen her in two years. If he'd been talking to her all along, why is he still feeling guilty? That's been bothering me because I've always believed that they would be able to communicate with one another in some way. :(

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. But from their conversation, he doesn't seem shocked that she's there. That's why I think he's spoken to her before. I don't know... Maybe he can't get over the fact that he couldn't save her? Maybe the more he sees her, the more upset he gets as it just reminds him that she isn't there with him anymore. I don't know... :(

True... and if they hadn't spoken in two years, why isn't there more of a greeting? Even IF she were only a friend - like the Cloti's want to believe - I think they would greet one another first. Wouldn't Aerith say something like, "It's good to see you again" instead of "Question: Why are you here?"

I've said before that the scene seems out of context, and that's exactly why. It seems odd that they start a conversation with one another that way if he hasn't seen her for two years. It also seems to me that more with Aerith will follow the conversation. It seems too incomplete for there to be no more conversations with Aerith during the course of the movie. Cloud obviously has more to say to her, and I don't think Aerith would just drop the conversation there, either. I think we will see further conversation between them in the movie.

Okay! I thought about it and came back!
She touches his left arm, right? The one with Geostigma. Now, the reason for that could be one of two. Either it was just easier cuz she's right handed, or she knows the infection's there(once again, she's a few steps ahead of Tifa). I think it was more of comfort than anything else really. Letting him know that it's alright. And hey, when Vincent touched it Cloud winced and looked to be in some pain, but when Aeris touched it he was fine.
Besides, like it was said before, no where else have spirits ever healed anyone in FFVII, so I don't think she is. She's just touching him, and comforting him.

That scene really DOESN'T seem to be their first encounter like this, and I agree with Aly's confusion. I hadn't actually thought about it 'til now. Hmmm...

Ya know, I started a thread about this at ff7ac.net, but nobody's come up with really conclusive answers. Nobou(*sob*) said he was re-using Aeris' theme, but I want to know where. There are two confirmed scenes with her(a quick flash of her burial and the convo), and neither would really be appropriate for her theme. Maybe a few tinkling notes from it during the 2 second flashback, but that doesn't seem like enough. I think that this is a clue to MUCH more Aeris. Maybe at the end of the movie, as Cloud's kneeling in pain/dying, her theme plays gently(just a lil, like at the ending of the game) and he sees a hand reaching down to him, and the screen goes white. But still, that doesn't seem like enough of her theme.

Yup, I think their long chat in the flower field was cut to ribbons to fit the screening as well.

Oh, this is how Aerith starts off the conversation:

So you've come, huh?

Even though it pains you incredibly to do so, right?

It must've been no small effort on your part.

Question! Why'd you come, anyways?

Her starting with a question makes it feel like they've had a similar conversation before, or is it just me?

I think the intro should have made it uncut, since they show Cloud stepping into the flower field and everything. Well, maybe they cut a little off it, but regardless that question seems to be pointing at something.

hmm....it does seem that cloud and aeris have had this conversation before but looks like in another place...because when they were together in the flower field aeris said:
Question!Why have come here?
like if she didnt want him there for some reason or something right?
anyways i do think that aeris was like trying to confort cloud when she touched his arm and maybe when she did that he wanted to turn around to see her(face)but as we all know he didnt OR did he?
hmm....and what about when kadaj entered the church:
http://www.adventchildren.net/media/screen...advent_0029.htm (that a pic when he entered)...looks like something happened there if that made him scream right?

Yeah, I think Aeris will heal Cloud even though he won't want her to. I see that happening, don't ask me why, like Cloud saying he wants the geostigma to finish him off to be with her, but she'll say something like he has to go on and can't give up.
However!
I do see them together by the movie's end, be it Aeris coming back, or Cloud dying in his old age, NOT with Tifa. I think they need closure to the story since they're having all the prequels and Vincent's game.
And yes, their conversation DOES seem edited. They can't be that... unfeeling towards each other, I mean this is the girl Cloud has longed for, for two years!
Here's to you Aeris, go claim that blonde spikey haired buff sexy man! *raises beer*

I think she touches his arm for two reasons. One is to show that she knows the pain he is going through and the other is to show that she cares. She loves him, and how else can you show that other than words than with touch? It's personal to touch someone in that way. I think if it were meant to show that she was going to heal him, you would see a tiny glow or a sparkly effect. Anything. So I don't think it is supposed to show that she heals him.

But I DO think that she will have a major part in the ending. Possibly helping Cloud fight Sephiroth again or something. What would be awesome to see is Cloud getting tired, feeling like he has been beaten when Great Gospel heals him Aerith steps in for him for a while, having it casted on her as well. I would love to see a fight between Aerith and Sephiroth. She could get her revenge while showing the world and Aerith-bashers that she isn't some weakling.

Oooh! That'd be an awesome scene! Like in FFIX!
But maybe instead of just coming up and taking his place, she stands in front of/over him, staff drawn and ready, her eyes narrowed at Sepiroth*gets goosebumps*
That'd be totally GREAT!
