Ah, geez, you guys used up all the reasons I can think of (I think). But here's my thought from my (painfully short, because I rented it) playing time on FF7. They look good together, pink and blue. I also like how Cloud acts around her when they met, that, my fellow Cleris, sealed it even thought I like the couple already from KH. It make me support it even more! Also, whether this is a good reason or more, Cloud and Aerith slide off my mouth easily and sound better then Cloud and Tifa, same goes for Cleris and Cloti. (Cloti sound like I got something stuck in my throat. )I'll add more once I think of some. |

Yeah, that's exactly the reason why I don't like Tifa  For me, Cloud & Aerith have always been THE couple! I like everything about them , especially Cloud's attitude when Aerith is around, speaking to him

Honestly, when I first played FFVII (I was 7 years old at the time) I SERIOUSLY believed that Tifa was married to Barret and that Marlene was their daughter and I thought that Cloud and Tifa were brother and sister. So, by the time Cloud met Aerith, I automatically thought, "They're going to fall in love." I never really thought of CloudxTifa until someone had to POINT IT OUT TO ME. I knew Tifa loved Cloud, but it was plain to see that his heart belonged to someone else. CloudxAerith just seemed so...horribly obvious! So when I went online and saw that there was a huge war on who Cloud loved, I thought, "WHAT!? People actually believe he loves Tifa!?" The idea was always so foreign to me. But really, Cloud needs someone like Aerith because she balances him out so well. When he first met her, just their first exchange in the church; Cloud acted so different. "Me? I do a little bit of everything." I always thought that was so cute, as if he was trying to show off that he could do anything. And shortly after they escaped the Turks: Aerith: Wait... Wait, I said! Puff... wheeze... Slow......down... Don't leave me...... Cloud: Funny...... I thought you were cut out to be in SOLDIER? Aerith: Oh! You're terrible! [They laugh] I thought that was so cute. I never pegged Cloud to be someone who would poke fun but I was proven wrong by this little exchange (...well, of course, later on Cloud compares Barret to a big marshmellow when he has the sailor suit on, but that's different :lmao:) When he first met Aerith, he seemed to want to show off and be macho as if to impress her, but the way I interpreted it was that he quickly understood that Aerith didn't seem to care whether he was a hero or not and just wanted to know HIM; the real Cloud. So Cloud relaxed around Aerith and acted like his true self when he was around her; he wasn't Zack or he wasn't crazy he was just...Cloud. I think that was one of the main reasons why Cloud cared about Aerith so deeply; she was the first person, it seems, that he didn't have to put up a front for, or rather, pretend to be someone he's not. He could just be himself and not worry because it was plain to see that Aerith genuinely cared about him regardless. Because she was so kind and cared about him, he in return began to develop the same feelings but because his experience with women was so...well, virtualy non-existant at the time, he had a hard time expressing how he felt and instead of expressing his feelings verbally, his actions were enough to show that Aerith was not just a companion or even a friend; she became precious and dear to his heart. Cloud was so hell bent on rescuing her from Shinra and it made me think, "He can't think of her as JUST a friend if he's willing to take on everyone at Shinra to get her back." Of course, one of my favorite quotes, if not my favorite was the famous: "But I'm...we're here for you, right?" After squeeing like the fangirl that I am, I found this exchange to be so poignant because it's probably the only time where Aerith is the one who needs to be comforted and Cloud is right there beside her, offering comfort and support should she need it; of course, his natural shyness gets the best of him and he corrects himself (possibly to avoid an awkward situation or Cloud is just a silly little boy like that, tee hee). Regardless, he shows an earnest desire to help her. And when she died, Cloud fell apart. He seemed to revert back to who he used to be, prior to meeting Aerith, at times, but when Aerith was brought up, he seemed to speak and act from the heart, which is how he acted when Aerith was still around. She left a huge impression and became inevitably intertwined with his destiny, and even in AC, she continues to influence the course of his actions and she's still a resonating memory that he holds very dear to his heart. While Tifa is important to Cloud because she is his friend, Aerith was everything to Cloud. I believe that Cloud depended on Aerith in a way because she was the only one to firmly believe that in the end, everything would be all right. Tifa was optimistic as well, but in reality, she was always so unsure and scared that things might go wrong because unconsciously, it seems, she believed things would go wrong and had little faith that things would be okay due to the dire circumstances. Aerith on the other hand spoke of the future and imagined the world being bright in the end, which is a goal that made Cloud keep going. In the end, I believe that Cloud continued to fight and defeat Sephiroth to settle the demons of his past, but just as importantly, to create the world that Aerith dreamed of; to save the planet that she loved. "I understand now. Aerith...I'll do the rest." Both Cloud and Aerith, all they did was for their friends and for each other. Aerith sacrificed her life for her friends and for Cloud; Cloud defeated Sephiroth for himself, he saved the planet for his friends, but he did both these things for Aerith as well. To save her planet and free her spirit. What's so beautiful about their relationship is that despite being seperated by impossible obsticles, they're still together because in one way or another, they're still fighting for each other. Their struggles are still a product of the love they have for each other. In my eyes, Cloud and Aerith's love for each other is a justification for everything they've done because it would benefit the other; and after all, isn't love about giving? Baah, so sorry for rambling and if this doesn't make any sense, but I just love these two so much!

As one of those who constantly posts at crazy lengths, I'm not complaining about your post-- in fact, it was a LOVELY read and I adore your reasons for loving Cloud/Aerith. Although I did sense a bit of a Love Triangle going on in my first playthrough back in '97, I also thought it was horribly obvious, based on their character types to begin with, that Cloud and Aerith were meant to be together.
I got that vibe too. I thought Cloud felt VERY restrained throughout the rest of the game after Aerith's death... he only ever seemed to show any emotion when he spoke of Aerith. Even when he'd made that speech to AVALANCHE in the Highwind after recovering his true memories in the Lifestream, something that should've been rather passionate and intense; I got the impression of restraint, of control, of tight calmness from him. |

Sad to say....his "Let's Mosey" had a tinge of sadness for me even. Like he was trying to be cheery on purpose to keep the spirits of the team up. Like something Aeris would do. ![]() Or I'm just looking in too deep. |

Their relationship has a long introduction that none of the other characters have. Chatting on the roof of the church. Chatting at Aeris' house. Chatting in the playground. Before Cloud falls into the church, it's just bomb reator, rest, bomb new reactor. When Aeris comes onto the scene, the entire on game puts on its brakes for her. Battles pretty much vanish. It's all talking and getting to know her. I knew then she was special (actually, I'll admit that the intro sequence made me suspicious :D) What really did it for me was when I saw Cloud and Aeris together on the roof of the church. It is the only moment in the game where Cloud actually laughs. No real reason, just joyful laughter. I'll never forget that. |

Man, I suck at this, but here goes nothing... 1. Aeris brought him out of his shell! He was such a....jerk when we were first introduced to him! And he met Aeris and...laughed. Smiled. He was happy around her! 2. Tifa and Cloud's past. That was...horrible for him. And she hid it from him. Don't get me wrong though, I love Tifa, in a weird way. XD 3. "I want you meet...you." It's almost like Aeris was intuitive to Cloud's lostness. 4. Cait Sith's prediction. Bwahaha! That speaks for itself. 5. Last scene. I JUST saw that last night and....wow. I squeed/fell over. He reached for her hand, he wanted to take her hand...but Tifa pulled him back to reality and to safety. What if she hadn't? He would have fell down, been crushed, right? In turn....>.> He would have ended up with his flower girl. That's really morbid, but it seemed that it didn't bother him. He DID reach for her hand too, after all. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong. XD Like I said, I'm horrid at these things. :) |

Those are great reasons, NB! (is it okay if I call you that? ) I don't see anything wrong with them.
Indeed. Out of the whole group, she was the one that was most responsive to the uneasiness in Cloud. I think she was able to sense all along, that something was the matter with him. She's so much more intelligent and alert than most people give her credit for. Don't let the pink fool you, girls!!! ![]()
Exactly. What touched me the most about this scene was that he was the one who reached out towards her hand first. The look on his face - gold. It was actually very very similar to the look on his face at the end of AC, now that I think of it! ![]() On the contrary, I didn't see him actually showing any pure longing of wanting to climb up. It wasn't till Tifa came falling only then did he rush forward to save the both of them. If the ledge she was on hadn't crumbled.....I seriously wonder if Cloud would've took the effort to save himself?

I think Aeris helps Cloud express his true feelings about a current situtation or how he felt about something. I think Tifa noticed Cloud too late when Aeris started to take interest in Cloud. Tifa, in my opinion was jelous of Aeris. |

Exactly! That's what I thought. It was almost like he wanted out of this mess, just wanted peace. And it seems like he thought he could find peace with Aeris, in the Promised Land.
