Questions Asked Of Cloud; Leading up to something?

To touch the light I see in your eyes...
Take a look at these quotes from the Montreal Film Festival. I see a distinct pattern emerging here:

When Tifa realizes that Cloud has Geostigma, she says, "I don't think he will fight" against dying. Why won't he fight?

When Tifa confronts Cloud about the Geostigma, she asks him, So it's okay to just give up and die. Is that what you think?"

In the flower field, Cloud wants forgiveness. Why would he want to be forgiven?

After Vincent rescues him, Cloud says, "I was right. I'm no good to anyone", and Vincent asks him, "Cloud... are you sure this is about fighting?"

After Marlene finds Cloud and Vincent, she yells at Cloud: Why don't you ever listen to us, our problems?"

Tifa yells at Cloud in a flashback that he has to stop running. Why is he running?

Tifa asks, "Do we have to lose out to a memory?"

Aerith says, "Would it help if I said you're forgiven?"

From all these quotes in the Montreal Film Festival, I see a pattern. Cloud is being questioned about why he's giving up, why he wants to be forgiven, why he doesn't want to fight the Geostigma, what is going on besides fighting, why they have to lose to a memory, why doesn't he forgive himself, etc. Cloud feels he's good for no one, Marlene wonders why he doesn't listen to their problems, Tifa wonders why he's running, Tifa wonders why he wants to die, etc.

Cloud is being pressured from all sides... why are you doing this, why won't you fight, why won't you forgive yourself, why don't you listen to us, why won't you help?

Are all of these questions leading up to an admission from Cloud that he lost the woman he loves when Aerith died?

Good point! I can certainly see a pattern there, too. I really hope that Cloud does confess that he loves Aerith! It really looks like everything is pointing to Cloud's immeasurable grief over losing the woman he loves. Besides, I just cannot see how ANYONE could grieve and mope for two years because of guilt alone. There was definitely more involved than the loss of a mere friend!

....in all honesty, I'd never noticed that, and I still don't see a super distinct pattern. But hey! If you say so!*thumbs up*
FF_Goddess, good point! I don't think that even CLOUD would mourn for two years straight from just guilt! Interesting!
BTW, I never caught that line by Aeris. When was it said?

Basically, the pattern is that everything can be answered in one way: Cloud is grieving for the woman he loved. That's why he won't forgive himself, that's why he won't fight against death, that's why he thinks he's no good to anyone, that's why he doesn't listen to anyone, etc. Everyone's pushing him with questions that can only be answered in one way: Cloud lost the woman he loved. Is this leading up to an admission from Cloud that he loved Aerith?

Very honestly, I don't remember where I saw it. I think it was in the Montreal Film Festival report, though... I thought it was interesting.

Okay... I thought I was the only person who's thinking about those lines... thank goodness somebody else brought up this topic. I couldn't have said it better myself.

It's pretty obvious that he's grieving for his loved one. He isolates himself from others; he lives in the Church where he "fell from the skies and landed on her flowerbed" *blink* ...okay, that sounded strange... but anyway... uhm... *blush*

Heehee.

And him giving up on life... it's like he wants to just die just so that he could be with her again... *awww*... :(

That's exactly what I thought when I first heard of his attitude towards being healed and giving up!

That is definately the idea I get when I see all those quotes. It would be awesome near the end if Tifa just confronts him and he finally says it's all because he loves Aerith. I want him to say it so bad!

Aah! This definately MAKES SENSE! He is being pressured way too much, until there will be a time where he will explode and confess his love for her!

"Stop! How would you feel if you lost the one you loved?!?"

Exactly... that's the way I'm seeing it, too. He's getting so much pressure about why he's acting this way that he's bound to admit the truth sooner or later. Actually, Tifa already seems to know. It was indicated in that one line of hers in the Venice Film Festival when she said:

"You think you'll meet her again this way? You think you would reach her by doing so? The way you die could be a good way, is that what you think???"

Doesn't that indicate that Tifa already knows?

Exactly. Tifa has got to know, she knew they had a thing for each other during the game. Much as I hate to admit it, Tifa does seem to know Cloud. She knows how he acts, and feels, and knows that if he's pressured, he will come to a breaking point and scream at the world about his angst.

Of course she already knows. Cloud told her at the end of FFVII.
And I've gotta agree with Tifa(or whoever said it first) that Tifa does indeed know Cloud very well. But that doesn't mean he loves her. Once again, FFVIII echoes this fact: Rinoa spends the whole game trying to understand Squall and finally manages to at the end. I think Aeris was beginning to understand Cloud, but never got a chance to finish. However, from the flower field scene in AC, I think she shows that she DOES know him.
I should really quit typing as I think <_<
I've gotta admit though, that Tifa's line really justifies the Cleris thinking.
