I have insomnia/sleeping disorder and I think finding an app (for tablet/ipad) to shut down the wifi during the night would be a life saver for me. I have had a certain addiction to the internet since a few years (which is one of the reasons why i'm not sleeping well at all and even feeling sick as a result).. but now that I have access to an ipad, it has become a lot harder to stay away from social medias and such... On another hand, i now also have easier access to relaxation/yoga/ASMR/hypnosis videos when i'm struggling to sleep... so it's not all bad (relatively speaking... because the mere fact I have to deal with insomnia is awful... and technology and depression are responsible for it in my case). Still, I feel like all I need is an app where I can program the wifi to disconnect during the hours I want. I was wondering if you knew a free app that can do this on ipad. I'm searching but i'm not finding much (which kind of show maybe how many people don't care yet about the consequences having technology around us all the time can have on one's health). I really need to get better... especially as my mother is having a burnout related to work (I don't want her to worry about me anymore... I want her to be able to relax and heal herself). As for my father, if I don't find a way, he said he'll cut the wifi/internet off entirely in december (which would be a brutal way to deal with this... especially considering how we all generally need easy access to the internet for work and other important stuff). Edit : oh well, my sister's bf got the best idea. This guy is a life saver. But still, do share any app you know. It could be useful for anyone struggling with this. Sorry to hear about your troubles and addiction to technology. I think I'm also addicted since I always use the internet on my bed for an hour or two before sleep even if it only leaves me with 4 hours of sleep for work the next day. I don't know an app but if you're the last to sleep you could try turning off the modem. Once you're in bed hopefully it'll be too cozy to get out and turn it back on. Yeah, my sister's boyfriend proposed this idea too. We're gonna set a timer. Technology addiction really sucks and a lot of people these days fall victim to it... to different degrees. It's a bit weird because I never felt addicted to video games in general (then again, this might also have to do with the fact it mostly applies to MMOs... and i mostly always avoided those based on personal taste and lack of monthly money to give). It's just... the internet. Fanfics, social medias, endless youtube videos... Thanks for the suggestion, for answering ...

First off, it can depend on the router you may have. If you have Netgear, use Netgear Genie. Linksys? Use Linksys Smart wi-fi. ASUS? ASUS Router. TP Link? TP-Link Tether and so on. Also maybe try these: Network Analyzer Lite. All work for both iOS or/and Android devices. It can be relatively challenging to help improve an addiction, especially ones such as the internet, where you surround yourself with multiple medias to choose from and look over at your fingertips. And often times, most aren't unaware or in disbelief that they may have an addiction of some kind. The same could be said for lacking in self-awareness at the extensive use in time regarding video gaming and online. Often times, most people search and search for just about anything and for excessive amounts of hours-- most likely to things that are overlooked or may not be as useful to look into. Really, with technology improving as time goes on and the more it surrounds everywhere you go and see, but also the freetime one has in their daily life or situation-- it's understandable and can be tempting, especially if you're also excited to use a new device you have, but not necessarily reasonable in a positive way, if that makes sense. With that said, I apologize you have an online addiction, but I'm happy you acknowledge you have one and are making efforts to improve it and use the time you have (on both the internet and in real life) more wisely. Perhaps help you seek balance. But also, I hope setting up something will help you feel much better physically! Edited by MaidenoftheFlowers, Oct 18 2017, 04:15 AM.
